I was an extra in two scenes, mostly in the ending concert, The Glory of Love. Bette did Hawaiian songs in between takes and entertained us. Wonder full!!

i saw this when my best friend from childhood and i weren't speaking because my ex-husband hurt her. it took from '87 to 2002 for us to come back together. this movie made me miss my friend so much, it was so much like our relationship; their movie relationship reflected our real relationship. now, we are old ladies and are planning to have a slumber party at which we will finally watch Beaches.

The story of best friends. Maybe not like any best friends most of us had or have; they started out as pen-pals. But what Barbara Hershey said is the truth, "It's a love story". Best friends miss each other, support each other, love each other, have fun with each other, disagree with each other, fight with each other, challenge each other and all the while through whatever feelings of anger or resentment, keep loving each other. What we've been though makes us who we are; and that goes for friendships as well, because we've gone through it together. Aside from family, only a best friend will put her own life on hold to run to your side in your time of need without thinking about it. This is the best "buddy movie" ever.

How incredibly fortuitous that Carol Channing ("Hello Dolly") was at this premier and mentioned "Gypsy," as well.

"I'm like the Queen of superficiality...." Oh Bette, no way, not then - not ever. You've always been trying to make the connection, and rarely have you failed.
Thank you, for all of the effort.

When I think of superficiality in the movies, Bette Midler NEVER comes to mind. She's UTTERLY FABULOUS! From The Rose to Beaches to Hocus Pocus, she does it ALL with ENORMOUS depth, warmth, and the CAMPIEST sense of humor a human being can possess. She is: "The Divine Miss M" and the moniker is WELL-DESERVED. Beaches was BRILLIANTLY cast. NO ONE else could have been CeeCee Bloom. NO ONE.

I remember when this movie came out. I was in a rotten mood and called a friend and asked if he wanted to go see a movie. We both agreed we didn't want to see anything heavy, we were in the mood for something "light and fluffy", but neither one of us knew anything about any of the films that were out. I, idiot that I was, said, "Bette Midler has a new film out - that's _bound_ to be funny - let's go see that!" So we did. My friend has never let me live it down! "Light and fluffy" gets us both!
