7:50 The animations for the 'improved' power armor getting in/out are actually vanilla, they just made it so it always happens. The usually only trigger when you're in combat, but the mod makes it so you're always doing the combat animation

A tiny mod I really like is "moveable power armor". While in building mode it lets you move a suit of power armor around like a settlement object. It's a must have for me.

[Critical hit on Marcy Long] ka-ching! +2XP [Codsworth loved that.] Then, party fanfare and confetti falls from the sky. Neutral NPCs smile and wave. Hostiles NPCs greet you with a fist bump instead of attacking, and deathclaws purr like kittens. For three full days, the weather is all sunshine and rainbows, and peace, love, and happiness reigns all over the wasteland. ^-^

Easy fix for consoles as well as pc. Although it is time consuming. You can increase the build limit by dropping armor and weapons on the ground. Then go into build mode and either store or scrap the items you dropped. When a game like this comes out and is buggy as hell, and the developers refuse to fix day one problems, I don't consider this cheating. Just using the game mechanics as they were given to me! Also their are mods that do this. And for pc, you can console command a larger build size that won't affect achievements.
I've pushed Sanctuary to the absolute limit and the only thing which caused it to crash was when I tried to mod Combat Armor. I found that it was because I had about 20 full suits of Combat Armor stored there ! When I scrapped it all, no more crashes.
That ammo / armour mod is a godsend. Since they can't hit anything with 200+ ammo, I was shocked to see that quickly, their ammo was gone and their power armour fell to pieces. They should have made durability for ALL gear or left it out of the game entirely. So, they can wear combat armor and go toe-to-toe with a deathclaw and laser barrage from a sentry bot and their combat armour is not tattered and destroyed, but a full suit of the best power armour + mods + mark VI and it falls to pieces in minutes?
This bothered me too, for such a long time! I mean, dont get me wrong, I like realism in my games, but there is this distinct point at which things become just realistic enough to be annoying. I mean, if we speak of realism, then why couldn't they repair their own stuff, loot their own ammo and actually pick up decent weapons? Like, its not even funny how ridiculously bad this is! A companion in powerarmor should always be taking care of it themselves or if thats too much of a hassle to programm, not need to repair it at all. It's mindboggling, how they managed to make settlers, much more useful companions than the actual companions.

Settlers only need one ammo, it never leaves their inventory. Companions will use the ammo you give them though. If you give a companion a flamer, for example you'll find that four seconds later they've used all the fuel you have them and they'll switch back to their usual weapon.
Bugs aside people should support Bethesda in regards to making a game in the first place and putting so much into it. Bugs will always come with such large open world games. Bethesda just needs to actively update/patch the game after release something they are rather mediocre with doing

The animations for getting into and out of power armor quickly are just the normal animations for getting into and out of power armor during combat. The mod doesn't give new animations, it just sets it so that the animations used are always the during combat ones
Sometimes companions can surprise. I remember when I was still quite a low level and heading towards Croup Manor, I saw the two sentry bots on the bridge, freaked out, took a Rad X and jumped into the water. At the same time Valentine just kept going and without any help from me, took both of them down with his pipe revolver.
It would be nice to add in a mod with new clothing station, and clothes washing and bathing station (G - Rated) so settlers can clean themselves up, and automatically upgrade their clothing to new clean clothing. Sure, it's a broken world, but no excuse for poor hygiene and living in scrap clothing... Also they keep walking around in trash. The 'Scrap Everything' mod lets you clean up those textures as scrap, but the NPCs living in a settlement really should clean up all the loose trash everywhere - it's their new home, after all.
Snapbeds - lets you build 2-person beds in your settlement, whether the side by side type like you find in Covenant, or bunk beds which you can find all over the Commonwealth. Halves the space beds take up so you can use space more efficiently. Scrap dead things - lets you compost the bodies of things that attack your settlements. Nothing goes to waste. I can't find it in my download history, but it's called something like "Scavver's toolbox" that lets you break down your junk items into components while on the go, like how you can do so at workbenches in 76, to reduce carry weight (doesn't work on weapons or armor though)
So I just watched this video, listened to it the entire way through, then I looked at the name. It took me a good long while to realize that this is the exact same oxhorn that I watched many years ago doing warcraft shorts and it made me really happy to know that he went on to do more things and is still thriving.
Great selection! There's one that you missed that orders your keys and security cards in a single inventory item, the keychain. Less inventory clutter is always nice, that mod was awesome for quality of life for me
The most subtle mod to fix something is making the Hunting Rifle right handed. The Vanilla version has the receiver/bolt on for left handed peeps. There are 1 or 2 guys who fixed it and also added some nice animations to go with it.
Yeah, it;s literally not there's to give. Besides most people strongly suspect Beth have a side deal with the UFO4P team, to take down their first UFO4P that didn't require any DLC. Which is the only thing that actually makes sense. So no, Beth doesn't want it. Keeping it strictly for all DLC, incentives buying their Season Pass, or GOTY edition.

Awesome mod list! Fixes a lot of things I didn't even know I had problems with. One of my personal favourites lowers the volume of generators (think it's called 'quieter settlements') which was a godsend for me.
I so love the unbreakable power armor and companion free ammo one, and I agree with it for the same reason you said... Plus, look at Paladin Danse. He is able to take care of his own armor, why can't everyone else?
In Skyrim companions are very accurate at high levels, have infinite ammo, and you don't have to repair their armor. Why they didn't carry this over into Fallout 4 is beyond me

Especially awesome to anyone who plays the Settlement game and tries to gear all their settlers. Seriously a must have. - ShelteredBeds : if you play the Settlement game, trying to figure out which beds are deemed un-sheltered by the game (often the vast majority of them) is insane! -20 Happiness for... what is basically a Bethesda bug. - Valdacil's Item Sorting (and related sister mods) : it makes items better sorted / categorized in the Pip-Boy. - No offscreen settlement attacks : as the name says. I refuse the random dice roll, so the actual defense and set-up is played. Needs more testing though. honestly i agree, in fallout 3 super mutants had conversations with each other, it would be nice to have settlers have conversations. but no Bethesda would rather make sure you can walk around with the name fuck face, and have codsworth be able to speak it. i mean seriously i would love to see how that conversation went down at bethesda, you know what we should do. make a wider range of names codsworth can speak. yeah i agree, but you have to have codsworth call you mr fuckface or mr fucker.
For me, there's also the lever-action rifle reload fix. And my two favorite, currently, that are the bright green with bright pink heads ghoul retexture and Sponge Bob's Chocolate dude ghoul sound replacer.

The last two mods were honestly a must download for me (I have the unofficial Fo4 patch) I always found it annoying how companions couldn't hit anything and that they didn't have their own ammo. Thanks Ox :D
You should try the "Better Companions" mod by techprince. www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/18547/? It not only increases the accuracy of most companions from 60% to 75%, and gives them unlimited ammo and unbreakable power armor, but it also makes them immune to fall damage. I like how it makes companions specialized in certain weapons. They can still use any weapon, but when using their specialized weapon, they deal 20% more damage. Their specializations also fit them.
I use Better Companions instead of Inf Ammo & Pwr Armor. It seems to be a lot more compatible with other mods and also fixes things like sneaking (no more dogmeat setting off ever mine in the commonwealth) and gun accuracy as well.
I have set strong as my companion and He freaking Keeps babbling stuffs all the freaking time "Strong Hugry want some... Blah blah" "Strong wants to do more fight blah blah"
man, I remember the days when Boone could snipe a deathclaw from 18 light-years away. it's kinda sad that most companions can't aim. really glad that mod brings it all back.
Shell Rain and Visual Reload are both kinda nice. The former causes shell casings to persist for longer, while the latter drops physics enabled magazines every time you reload. It doesn't sound like much, but it adds a bit more detail after any prolonged firefight.
During the bunker hill battle i heard a legendary synth die I never found that corpse But I still got the last laugh I finished bunker hill without firing a shot nor making any faction mad at me ^_^
I have defended my settlement from supermutants before and was in a rush because someplace else was being attacked. Apparently there was another one or two extra supermutants I had missed, "Failed: Help Defend Sanctuary"
At the very, very start of the video, when oxhorn says best quality of life mods, Solomon says high quality chems, meaning drugs.... that was amazing timing, oxhorn.
For me it's piper, I send her to sanctuary, which is also my main base. So I go to the crafting station and what does she do? "folks are just looking for a hand, all we have to is offer" I can't even remember how many times I've heard that line, it's fucking haunting at this point. It got so bad I don't like her as a companion, so she just chills in diamond city.
I love the "move power armor in the workshop" mod. Saves so much time when trying to organize your collection. Only downside is it only works for vanilla armor, so all the DLC power armors like the Vim! suits and Nuka Cola suits can only be moved the old fashioned way.
ive noticed a lot of variance in the folower accuracy, like the railroad dude hits em everytime more or less and i love his dorky undercover act anyways (like he changes his outfits sometimes like going into vault 88 he puts on a vault suit and what not
I'm surprised Don't Call me Settler didn't make the cut. Yes I'm aware that it's been set to hidden on the nexus but you can find the last working version if you look around on the net....
From what I recall it was only the scripts like Burn, Baby Burn that was causing the damage. So long as you disable those it works pretty well without damage. There was a article about it on the Sim Settlements page, the naming and settler spawn rates don't seem to cause any save damage.... Still there is a new alternative available called "Immersive Settlers" that takes care of the naming issue.....
I chose to use the Modify Companion Weapons mod instead. It lets you upgrade the unique weapon that they come with, which has infinite ammo. However, any other weapon needs ammo. I give all of my companions a backup melee weapon for those enemies that rush right at them. It works great. The only thing is the author didn't update it for Nuka World, so you can't upgrade Gage's weapon.
I'd like a mod that changes Dogmeat's Ai so he don't run ahead of you. Especially when you're shooting a car or lobbing a grenade. or when you're going to shut a door and he runs through and opens it right back up because it's in front of you. Dogs can't open doors.
Absolutely killer video Oxhorn. It should be one of the first and foremost modding videos presented to any Fallout 4 player. Can't believe I've gone over a year without it.
My Vanilla curie is actually pretty damn deadly... She started off a pretty poor shot, but over time has become utterly deadly with the fully modded laser rifle I gave her.. So much so that I'm having to be quick to get any kills..

The sole survivors used a disk in his pip boy and then could choose peoples finished settlements and it would download and then build by it self.

If you back out of the "Send Companion To" window instead of selecting a location then they'll go to the place you first recruited them (Publick Occurences, Valentine's Detective Agency, Combat Zone etc), ONLY IF you've never sent them somewhere else. Some companions default to the Red Rocket (like Strong)
here are a few of my favorite/must have mods: "better mod descriptions, valdacil's item sorting, 10mm smg(the 10mm smg from fallout 1), raider overhaul, companion status, true storms, realistic lighting, vivid weathers, salvage beacons and the various patches for said mods.

I built a Vault with the Vault-Tec workshop DLC. It took me about 2 hours to build the structure and a third of the decorations and interior. My game crashed without obvious reason and I didn´t safe/quick safe... So much time wasted.
yeah i was doing the quest for the unstoppables home base, cleared it out, and just as i was about to save, the game utterly has a brain fart and dies. that really turns me off wanting to play.

there is a mod: start me up, that allows u to start wherever and whoever u like, and slightly tweaks main quests so that it make sense to do them if u r not shauns father
It's a bit late, but thank you for this video. I was about to start a companion based-build to play over the summer, with a low-combat crafter sole survivor. I'm sure it could have been done, but the last two mods (along with the dialogue fixes) will hopefully make it far more bearable.
Junk master this mod is amazing also BS Defense cause it makes all your turrets and defenses actually capable of protecting your settlements without you having to go there all the time

A mod I would highly recommend for anyone bored with the vanilla guns in the game is the Skibada Weapons pack. It adds a ton of new guns and types of ammo. One of my favorite additions is a new heavy machine gun. You can change its ammo type to .50bmg and then make the rounds into explosive rounds and basically have a hand held WWII era anti-aircraft gun
Had my character just short of level 100 when the game started freezing every time I went to a craft or repair station. Thanks to Bethesda's lack of support I found the only solution was to completely uninstall, then reinstall and start the game from the very beginning by making the run to Vault 111 all over again
I think, instead of installing Companion Accuracy Boost, a nice, immersive, more realistic alternative might be to just dress your companions as Imperial storm troopers. Joking aside, great list, Oxhorn! A lot of these are super useful!

I don't have such a mod but my game has a glitch where I can build as much as I like at any settlement.

No DEF_UI with Valdacil's Item Sorting? That is a must have Quality-of-Life mod for me. I would probably rank it number 1 of these mods.
That ammo / armour mod is a godsend. Since they can't hit anything with 200+ ammo, I was shocked to see that quickly, their ammo was gone and their power armour fell to pieces. They should have made durability for ALL gear or left it out of the game entirely. So, they can wear combat armor and go toe-to-toe with a deathclaw and laser barrage from a sentry bot and their combat armour is not tattered and destroyed, but a full suit of the best power armour + mods + mark VI and it falls to pieces in minutes?
This bothered me too, for such a long time!
I mean, dont get me wrong, I like realism in my games, but there is this distinct point at which things become just realistic enough to be annoying.
I mean, if we speak of realism, then why couldn't they repair their own stuff, loot their own ammo and actually pick up decent weapons?
Like, its not even funny how ridiculously bad this is! A companion in powerarmor should always be taking care of it themselves or if thats too much of a hassle to programm, not need to repair it at all. It's mindboggling, how they managed to make settlers, much more useful companions than the actual companions.

Settlers only need one ammo, it never leaves their inventory. Companions will use the ammo you give them though. If you give a companion a flamer, for example you'll find that four seconds later they've used all the fuel you have them and they'll switch back to their usual weapon.

Bugs aside people should support Bethesda in regards to making a game in the first place and putting so much into it. Bugs will always come with such large open world games. Bethesda just needs to actively update/patch the game after release something they are rather mediocre with doing

I love the way you review mods. You show the vanilla, you show the results of the mods, and you explain what the mod does. Very informative and instructive.
The animations for getting into and out of power armor quickly are just the normal animations for getting into and out of power armor during combat. The mod doesn't give new animations, it just sets it so that the animations used are always the during combat ones
Sometimes companions can surprise. I remember when I was still quite a low level and heading towards Croup Manor, I saw the two sentry bots on the bridge, freaked out, took a Rad X and jumped into the water. At the same time Valentine just kept going and without any help from me, took both of them down with his pipe revolver.

- Tree Farms
It would be nice to add in a mod with new clothing station, and clothes washing and bathing station (G - Rated) so settlers can clean themselves up, and automatically upgrade their clothing to new clean clothing.
Sure, it's a broken world, but no excuse for poor hygiene and living in scrap clothing...
Also they keep walking around in trash. The 'Scrap Everything' mod lets you clean up those textures as scrap,
but the NPCs living in a settlement really should clean up all the loose trash everywhere - it's their new home, after all.

Snapbeds - lets you build 2-person beds in your settlement, whether the side by side type like you find in Covenant, or bunk beds which you can find all over the Commonwealth. Halves the space beds take up so you can use space more efficiently.
Scrap dead things - lets you compost the bodies of things that attack your settlements. Nothing goes to waste.
I can't find it in my download history, but it's called something like "Scavver's toolbox" that lets you break down your junk items into components while on the go, like how you can do so at workbenches in 76, to reduce carry weight (doesn't work on weapons or armor though)
Use button-lowered weapons. It supports all weapons, even modded ones.
So I just watched this video, listened to it the entire way through, then I looked at the name. It took me a good long while to realize that this is the exact same oxhorn that I watched many years ago doing warcraft shorts and it made me really happy to know that he went on to do more things and is still thriving.
Great selection! There's one that you missed that orders your keys and security cards in a single inventory item, the keychain. Less inventory clutter is always nice, that mod was awesome for quality of life for me
The most subtle mod to fix something is making the Hunting Rifle right handed.
The Vanilla version has the receiver/bolt on for left handed peeps.
There are 1 or 2 guys who fixed it and also added some nice animations to go with it.
Bethesda needs to take the unofficial patch and release it vanilla

Yeah, it;s literally not there's to give. Besides most people strongly suspect Beth have a side deal with the UFO4P team, to take down their first UFO4P that didn't require any DLC. Which is the only thing that actually makes sense. So no, Beth doesn't want it. Keeping it strictly for all DLC, incentives buying their Season Pass, or GOTY edition.

Awesome mod list! Fixes a lot of things I didn't even know I had problems with. One of my personal favourites lowers the volume of generators (think it's called 'quieter settlements') which was a godsend for me.
I so love the unbreakable power armor and companion free ammo one, and I agree with it for the same reason you said... Plus, look at Paladin Danse. He is able to take care of his own armor, why can't everyone else?
In Skyrim companions are very accurate at high levels, have infinite ammo, and you don't have to repair their armor. Why they didn't carry this over into Fallout 4 is beyond me

- Provisioner Supply Containers : surprised you missed that one. Especially awesome to anyone who plays the Settlement game and tries to gear all their settlers. Seriously a must have.
- ShelteredBeds : if you play the Settlement game, trying to figure out which beds are deemed un-sheltered by the game (often the vast majority of them) is insane! -20 Happiness for... what is basically a Bethesda bug.
- Valdacil's Item Sorting (and related sister mods) : it makes items better sorted / categorized in the Pip-Boy.
- No offscreen settlement attacks : as the name says. I refuse the random dice roll, so the actual defense and set-up is played. Needs more testing though. The game is quirky with those things.
- QuickTrade: open trade with Settlers and Companions instantly with one key!

It not only increases the accuracy of most companions from 60% to 75%, and gives them unlimited ammo and unbreakable power armor, but it also makes them immune to fall damage.
I like how it makes companions specialized in certain weapons. They can still use any weapon, but when using their specialized weapon, they deal 20% more damage. Their specializations also fit them.

I use Better Companions instead of Inf Ammo & Pwr Armor. It seems to be a lot more compatible with other mods and also fixes things like sneaking (no more dogmeat setting off ever mine in the commonwealth) and gun accuracy as well.

Shell Rain and Visual Reload are both kinda nice. The former causes shell casings to persist for longer, while the latter drops physics enabled magazines every time you reload. It doesn't sound like much, but it adds a bit more detail after any prolonged firefight.

I love the "move power armor in the workshop" mod. Saves so much time when trying to organize your collection. Only downside is it only works for vanilla armor, so all the DLC power armors like the Vim! suits and Nuka Cola suits can only be moved the old fashioned way.

ive noticed a lot of variance in the folower accuracy, like the railroad dude hits em everytime more or less and i love his dorky undercover act anyways (like he changes his outfits sometimes like going into vault 88 he puts on a vault suit and what not
I'm surprised Don't Call me Settler didn't make the cut. Yes I'm aware that it's been set to hidden on the nexus but you can find the last working version if you look around on the net....
Patrick Green Don't Call Me Settler was hidden because it causes long term damage to your save that is irreversible.
From what I recall it was only the scripts like Burn, Baby Burn that was causing the damage. So long as you disable those it works pretty well without damage. There was a article about it on the Sim Settlements page, the naming and settler spawn rates don't seem to cause any save damage....
Still there is a new alternative available called "Immersive Settlers" that takes care of the naming issue.....
I chose to use the Modify Companion Weapons mod instead. It lets you upgrade the unique weapon that they come with, which has infinite ammo. However, any other weapon needs ammo. I give all of my companions a backup melee weapon for those enemies that rush right at them. It works great. The only thing is the author didn't update it for Nuka World, so you can't upgrade Gage's weapon.
I'd like a mod that changes Dogmeat's Ai so he don't run ahead of you. Especially when you're shooting a car or lobbing a grenade. or when you're going to shut a door and he runs through and opens it right back up because it's in front of you. Dogs can't open doors.

If you back out of the "Send Companion To" window instead of selecting a location then they'll go to the place you first recruited them (Publick Occurences, Valentine's Detective Agency, Combat Zone etc), ONLY IF you've never sent them somewhere else. Some companions default to the Red Rocket (like Strong)

I built a Vault with the Vault-Tec workshop DLC. It took me about 2 hours to build the structure and a third of the decorations and interior. My game crashed without obvious reason and I didn´t safe/quick safe... So much time wasted.

yeah i was doing the quest for the unstoppables home base, cleared it out, and just as i was about to save, the game utterly has a brain fart and dies. that really turns me off wanting to play.

The home plate Maudie's talking about also allows Raiders to attack you in your home. It's a glitch in the mud hasn't been fixed yet

It's a bit late, but thank you for this video. I was about to start a companion based-build to play over the summer, with a low-combat crafter sole survivor. I'm sure it could have been done, but the last two mods (along with the dialogue fixes) will hopefully make it far more bearable.
Junk master this mod is amazing also BS Defense cause it makes all your turrets and defenses actually capable of protecting your settlements without you having to go there all the time
i would have loved to see bethesda put in the junk everything that they did with 76, like seriously if it's all junk, just let me break it down to it's base material.

That being said, what you can do to make it easier for people (like myself) that pick and choose their mods carefully, not just before, but ESPECIALLY AFTER, you mention each mod and showcase it ... A mod I would highly recommend for anyone bored with the vanilla guns in the game is the Skibada Weapons pack. It adds a ton of new guns and types of ammo. One of my favorite additions is a new heavy machine gun. You can change its ammo type to .50bmg and then make the rounds into explosive rounds and basically have a hand held WWII era anti-aircraft gun
Bethesda are horrible at supporting their games
Had my character just short of level 100 when the game started freezing every time I went to a craft or repair station. Thanks to Bethesda's lack of support I found the only solution was to completely uninstall, then reinstall and start the game from the very beginning by making the run to Vault 111 all over again
