Beach Bivvy - Wild Camping - Saltfleet Lincolnshire
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 чер 2014
- This week my mate Ray and I decided to go for a last minute Wild Camp amongst some Sand Dunes, I did a quick Google Search and found the Dunes at Saltfleet in Lincolnshire. We chucked our kit in our bags, jumped in the car and headed to the coast for what was to be a great night with amazing views. I'd like to mention too that we didn't cause any damage to the dunes themselves, the sand dune environment is very fragile and we were careful not to leave any trace of our night spent there.

I regularly bivi and camp about a mile further into the estuary, near North Cotes airfield, it's a lovely area, very peacefully. The birds, the sea, the thump thump thump of the big ship engines out on the estuary.Very deep bass sound that can lull you to sleep. But please be careful of that tide, it's very deceptive. It looks like it's not moving then you realise that it come in behind you. Many people have drowned out there over the year just by watching the wrong direction.Looks like a great night out nice to see my part of the world being appreciated, excellent video.
+Liam Gardiner thanks for watching Liam and thank you for the tip for another wild camp. I'm hoping to return for a beach camp at some point this year so your recommendation may come in very handy. All the best, Dean
A great video Dean. I've spent a few weekends in that very spot!
The first couple of times, I didn't bother with a tarp. I just used my BA gore-tex bivvy bag, with a fleece liner. My most recent visit, I used the bag but covered with my poncho/tarp. For pegs in deep loose sand, I use some old fibreglass tent pole sections. They are lightweight and long enough to be secure. They worked well!
Hi Philip, Thanks for watching. It's a really great spot isn't it. I'd been wanting to camp near some dunes for a while so just had a quick look along the coast via Google earth. This trip seems like a lifetime ago now :-) All the best, Dean.
Love this! Looks like a perfect spot. Great vid, yet again! Thanks for sharing :-)
Cheers mate, it was a night to remember. we really did drop lucky with the location and the weather this time

Its great camping in the sand dunes, the only down side is how much sand you bring home with you in your gear lol..:)
Cheers bud.

Cheers Dean , there's something special about a beach bivvy , thanks for sharing , Gaz
First of many for me I hope. Have camped in desert and on a salt lake in tent but not on a beach :-)
Great video
I've just got a ex army gortex bivvy bag so looking at doing a beach camp. I was looking around Spurn Head. I live near the east coast so looking for to doing a camp were it maybe tricky with a tent.
Thanks again. Looking forward to your next video
Thanks for watching Doug. We camped at Spurn Head a few years ago but the Wild Life Trust didn't take too kindly to it so I had to take the video down :-)
Hi! Dean
Very nice bivvy
Thanks for sharing
Atb.
Ed
Hi Ed, thanks for watching. It was a really great night and I'm looking forward to doing something similar again soon
I think I will have to pay that area a visit. Great video.
It's certainly worth a look, there wasn't as much dune as I would have liked but it was just about enough to camp near
wow, cool video!!
Great stuff Dean,i would never have though about a beach bivvy but i am now, cheers.
That's a big boy camera you lugging around but you can see the quality,my folks got a caravan beside a nudie beach maybe if a group of college girls are relaxing on the beach i'll have extra height in my bivvy bag lol !!!
Haha :-) That would certainly make for an interesting view from camp on the nudist beach. I was using my Canon 550D for the majority of the time in this video, very happy with the video quality now I've messed with some settings
I can't wait to see your vid mate!!!
Looks like a good place to chill out, 👍 as always, any chance you could put the links in the description ?.
If you view on a tablet you can't click the in video ones, 😉
I was wondering if you'd be able to advise me on something: myself and some friends were thinking of doing a wild camp on the Anderby Creek beach. Do you ever get confronted by people? Even if you are quiet and don't leave litter? What do you have to bare in mind when choosing a spot that you won't get in trouble for?
+Postman Pat Hi Thanks for watching. I've never had any problems myself and I've not been seen or asked to move. I just always make sure I stay out of sight and camp away from civilianisation as much as possible. I always make sure we pitch late and leave early, never leave and litter or have any fires. Hope you have fun at Anderby Creek. All the best, Dean
@richandiben hi mate, yeah I spotted Donna Nook when doing my research. Looks like a great place but I also noticed something about Military Firing Range so decided to stead clear until I know more :-)
One of my favourite #WildCamping trips of the year so far, A Beach #Bivvy at Saltfleet in #Lincolnshire
I enjoyed watching this one.
Thanks for watching Richard Hubbuck, 'twas the week after our Hadrian's Wall walk
I hope to get out myself this week. Hope all is well.
All is well this end mate, hardly been out myself lately. Had my grandparents over to stay from Oz so been spending quality time with them, much needed
I saw your pic. We all need to meet up.
Awesome video mate watched and liked a few now lol looking forward to more liked n subbed ur channel
Great vid mate....something a bit different... off to Cornwall next month with the Wife and kids... sneaking my bivvy bag in the car now!!!!ATB - Marcus
+Woodsman ocD86 thanks for watching Marcus, it was a really great night and I hoping we managed to fit one in again soon. I keep on about it to Jay & Ray :-) hope you enjoy Cornwall too, ATB Dean
Dean, I noticed you never seem to use a ground sheet under your bivvy bag ?, I have the standard army bivvy bag as well, bomb proof, also a little tip if you don't know, pegging down guy ropes on sand etc I used to carry some empty sand bags and when I set up my sea fishing shelter I would fill the bags with sand, tie the guy ropes to the bags and position as normal, it held up my fishing shelter in some strong winds, then when you want to go home ,empty the bags ,tuck them in your pack (they weigh very little) and job done, cheers craig
Cracking video mate, what do you use to record video when not using the go pro?
I use my Canon 550D when I'm not using the GoPro, was very happy with the quality of the footage from it on this trip as I'd worked hard to get the settings right :-)
Brilliant video! Would of love to see in it in person. Also what camera do you use?
Hi John, I was using the GoPro hero 3 while I was walking to our camp spot and then I switched to my Canon 550D which I use the majority of the time now days. The Canon is a better picture than the GoPro so I only really use that now days when it's raining or if I'm on my bike :-). Thanks for watching
Nice video Dean, Shame about missing filming the sunrise, but there is always next time. Atb Glenn.
Cheers Glenn, you win some, you loose some.. Or in this case, sleep through some :-)
Beautifully done, great vid 👍id use a low profile sand coloured wind breaker just in case a gust of wind decides to throw sand in your faces whilst asleep : /
Great vid mate, thanks for sharing, please let the lads know that there is quick sand in some areas on the lincs coastline.Just use a bit of commonsense, and an up to date map;and enjoy!
I'll stay away from the quick sand :-) I had an OS map with me but didn't spot any danger zones marked on it where we were. thanks for watching
I hope that was your toe that twitched, sticking up in your sleeping bag Deano!! :-) Good vid dude. Regards, Daz.
Haha :-) we laughed at that part when I was editing the video last night, I wondered if anyone would ask :-) and yes, it was my feet. Thanks for watching Daz
Woo, i live in Lincolnshire! and yes i agree, it's not luxurious at all!! Actually to be honest, if you go to the right areas, the views are amazing.
I have family in Lincolnshire and I love it lush green rolling hills, need to get myself back there for another beach Bivvy :-) thanks for watching Riki
....@Dean your adventures i follow with utmost zeal isnt it great to see you out and about my dearest freind?...I recommend beach camping in the summer as somewhat my occupation..And an great way to show publically the skilled proffesionalism of the genuine outdoor type...To my mind as an Park Ranger Dean this is always respected...I camp on Scotlands East Coast beaches from Fife Kingdom to the English Border with some videos (Not as good as Deans...but i do work on this)..On You-Tube...With many an good night on Scotlands beaches in excellent company always with plenty of admiration from the public and athourities alike...However summer sun affects people in the strangest of ways Dean and things can get overheated on Lothians popular beaches with teenagers drugs and alcohol consumption which is why personally i beleive its so utterly important dedicated proffessionals just like Dean visit those popular beaches in the hope younger ones may know true discipline and an outdoor life...I will be posting some videos hopefully come the summer season..til then i follow Dean and the like with avid apprehension.....!!
Thank you for your kind comments Eric, one of my main aims when recording the videos was to show my outdoor adventures truthfully. My friends and I thoroughly respect the outdoors and I'm always conscious that when I'm camping that I leave no trace or have no negative impact. I have seen the effects and destructions left by the types of people you mentioned, it's terrible. A piece of woodland we camp in is visited in summer by them and we are always cleaning up their mess before we can even begin pitching our tents or tarps. I'm a normal guy who has a normal job but I love getting outdoors and having everyday adventures. I hope my videos show that too, you can have great adventures on your doorstep and don't need to spends lots of money on expensive kit... It's all about great times with great fiends and family. Thanks again for your kind comment and thanks for subscribing
I've done this last October. Same spot. It's fantastic 👏
i envy you, i need to go back i have not been in a long time. such a nice place. used to go to a caravan park called the new inn that is just around the corner were i spent a lot of my childhood..good times.
@@scaleop4 it's so good. Little fire and friends. Beautiful spot, your right. Simple nessesaties for 16 hours it's amazing
@@theodorebundy2234 ahh yes. i need to go back asap. ( i can still remember when i used to go crabbing to ( as in you go and catch crabs . with a line a bit of meat on the end ( and that was the same time i got nipped by a crab it hurt like hell. )
Sorry to be boring but be careful on the dunes, it's a sensative environment 👍😎
@@DeanRead its ok mate I live here I know all about it. I work in environmental areas too. I am a marine biologist and work with seals in north Cornwall. I stay as footprint friendly as possible in these times. How do you get to your Asian destinations?
Hello again dean. Loved the video.. loved the location.. The more i watch your video's the more i want to invest in a 'gopro'.
I love my GoPro, I'd replace it in a heartbeat if I lost it :-) thanks for watching mate, we certainly dropped lucky with the location and the weather
I watch your video's because i adore edale... spent many a weekend mountain biking around there. My favourite place though as to be 'castleton'.. what a beautiful village with views to match.
Edale would be my fav place I think if I had to name a settlement, mainly because of it's isolated feel. Castleton is nice though when food coffee and cake is needed after a walk :-)
Bloody hell Dean you look about 12 on this vid lol. ATB Coops 🍻👍🏻
what a great video i thought we were the only crazy people that camped on the beach. check out Pembury Beach south whales possibly the best beach on whales for camping. I have started uploading videos and my first is from there.
chew barker thanks for watching, that was my first coastal bivvy and I can't wait to do it again :-) i'll check out your video now
Brasso182 Good idea, i'll get them put in :-)
Nice video. Your Bivvys looked like a shallow grave tho 😳
the tide never comes in, in salt fleet
Before we arrived I had an image of camping on a sand dune and the waves lapping at sand yards away :-) never mind haha
That was great, to wake up to a seaside sunrise, lucky guys. High time my Lincolnshire Yellowbelly husband, explored his county of birth. Definitely a place to explore this summer.
It really was a trip to remember, I was absolutely spellbound by the sunrise, it was spectacular. I must admit I haven't really explored Lincolnshire even though I have relatives there :-)
what sunset music mate.....??
Hi mate, the music used in that video was a track I made myself which doesn't have a name sadly :-) I make my music using Propellerheads Reason
u are an awesome composer...just tuned the music so perfect, that i thought im watching discovery channel :-)
Thank you :-) that's the beauty of making my own music. For videos, I can edit the length of it to fit perfectly with the footage
You only went parked outside my nans house 😀
been there meany times lol
+scaleop4 that was my first visit, thanks for watching
better safe than sorry haha
True :-) wouldn't have been nice being swept away during the night in our bivvy bags
I couldn't be doing with the sand.
Thanks for watching Paul, I was removing sand from my kit for months after :-)
I liked your video and setup etc but....it seems your thinking too much what your going to say or do next for example pointing to the corner to a previous video..let it flow man let it flow
+Irish outdoors Thanks for the feedback, I no longer do the pointing to links thing during videos anymore, it was a passing phase. I never really plan what i'm going to say, if I do that I'd end up just messing up. Everything I say in my videos just comes out and a lot of it is usual rubbish haha :-)
With so many desperate migrants arriving at random beach locations, id stay awake all day and night too apprehensive to sleep😩
At this point on the coast I'd be more worried about Vikings :-)
