@@Him_Downstairs36 @pantalaemon one of Cave’s twin sons, died following a fall from a cliff in East Sussex in the summer of 2015, aged just 15. Cave turning to his work to write the furiously emotional sixteenth Bad Seeds studio album Skeleton Tree. This song is next to the end of the album.
THANK GOD that there's an audience for this type of music!!! Most of the people in my life cannot appreciate the beauty, albeit dark, that's not trying to sell you something or be aural wall paper to suit your drab, gray existence.
Cried throughout this whole song and still crying after. I’ve been a music fanatic my entire life and I’ve never found an artist that speaks to me on the level Nick Cave does.
@beingjoshmc Me too!!! Well said mate. Listen to this band called Bad Knights. They have the one album called 'Letters to Everybody'. Some slow ones, others rockier...but such depth, rawness and meaning in every song. Grows and grows on you. The lead singers voice is quite something too.
Life imitates Art. I am sat at my son's bedside in Dorset County Hospital where he is in Palliative Care, listening to this. It's truly great Art and excellent musicianship but it's the well of emotion in Nick's eyes that I recognise. So moving.......................
A truly selfless piece of art. Nick has chosen to grieve in the open, knowing that it will help countless people to mourn and hopefully wake for another day. That’s enough to be thankful for.
Bless my child. Off into the distant sky, face to the rising sun, eyes unseeing yet reflecting that golden light. Always loved and forever 19. I will be there soon my beloved one.
I really like the arrangement of the lyrics in this version -- where Nick sings his first verse, Else sings both of hers, and then Nick sings his second verse. That ending is just devastating.
There is a moment right around 5:00 during which Nick is in the dark and you can see a tiny glint flare on his eye. I don't know what I'm projecting onto that.
This is just unbelievably emotional to watch. What a powerful statement of love in the face of loss. Of beauty and hope juxtaposed against disillusionment and dispair. When Nick stood up from the piano to sing the final lines, I , like him, was overcome. Just absolutely stunning. Thank you Nick and the Bad Seeds for this--just amazing.
@@jasam123 Love is in the first line of the lyrics. The loss is of faith (and other things, by implication). But you also can't separate this song from what happened in Mr Cave's personal life. In that context, this song becomes even more beautiful and tragic.
They say Johnray, Mate, that the two strongest emotions are love and grief. Nick Cave summed up both in this song and so did you in your comments. Well done.
anonimni youtube: Yours is an old comment, granted. Who knows what you or anybody thinks a year hence? Just curious - were you digging in to the comment to explore what Mr Fuller was really thinking, or were you intentionally rejecting the rather straightforward point that Nick was singing about the son he loved but lost? The message couldn't be clearer, frankly. Someone's missing something here. It might be me but this time, Nah...
Absolutely stunning and so incredibly beautiful and moving. Else Torp is such a lovely modest smiling wonderful accomplished accompanist, and Nick and Else and the band moved this song into the realm of Gods for me, and if this isn't one of the best concert performances ever then I don't know what is. Just wonderful. The whole concert blew me away but this to me was the highlight.
Distant Sky Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Let us go now, my one true love Call the gasman, cut the power out We can set out, we can set out for the distant skies Watch the sun, watch it rising in your eyes Let us go now, my darling companion Set out for the distant skies See the sun, see it rising See it rising, rising in your eyes They told us our gods would outlive us They told us our dreams would outlive us They told us our gods would outlive us But they lied Let us go now, my only companion Set out for the distant skies Soon the children will be rising, will be rising This is not for our eyes
I read somewhere that this is beauty that should never have needed to exist, I agree with that, however it has enriched humanity also. Beyond beautiful.
Zack Snyder's Justice League brought me here. Thank God! This is music for the soul. I strongly believe Snyder was influenced by the passing of his daughter Autumn, so much so a few songs in the movie like this and Song for the Siren are featured perfectly throughout the film.
Agreed - "For Autumn" are the words at the beginning of the end credits. Recently I experienced the loss of a loved one. Those moments in the movie, together with the soundtracks you mention, were deeply touching. I think the same can be said for anyone that has or is experiencing loss.
@@xT-Inverted absolutely, I'm so sorry for your loss. I recently lost my grandfather and I understand that music is truly a gift from God. It cleanses, heals and lifts our soul out of the darkness. Wish you the best fellow stranger, stay golden
I was lucky enough to be at this gig and the goose bumps and tears that I had then are here again watching this beautiful piece of music. There's nothing else to add; it's simply Nick cave & The Bad Seeds (and Vanja Stijepovic Else Torp) at their awesome best!
Saw this entire concert at the movies and it's one of the most amazing live concerts I've ever seen... Amazing setlist, incredibly moving and powerful performance. There's a CD of it, but I really hope it's released on DVD!
Well, here's the thing. I was always aware of Mr Cave, but not really paying attention. I came across 'God is in the House', then 'Love Letter' bought some CDs Nocturama being my favourite...'Wonderful Life' and 'Are you the One' came next, and I thought that was as good as it gets, but now this blows it all out the water. I have honestly never seen anything as heartfelt as this, I don't know what else to say. There's something in my eye...
Beautiful song. I would love to see and hear Enya perform this song. Well done, it’s not that real men don’t cry. Real men cry. Melancholy like this makes me remember things that I’ve forgotten a long time ago. A sudden flash of joyful memories of beloved people that passed away a long time ago that makes you desire to go back in time. And then you realize that those people aren’t there anymore, but they live on in your dreams.
Music, art, poetry, performance - it doesn't get any better than this. I'll be returning to this for the rest of my life and it will bring tears to my eyes every time.
Which people are disliking this?? I'm sorry but it seems for me they are heartless and very cold ones.... I truly can't understand it! Such an beautiful piece of art, full of pure emotions. ❤️👌🏻💎👌🏻
Awesome track, dark, melodic and haunting. can anyone explain the story, is it two lovers who have taken their lives together and left their children behind? So emotional.

Warren's violin outro is utterly heartbreaking.
Else Torp is outstanding, the lyrics are outstanding but when Warren's violin starts to play my eyes ..., btw who's cutting onions?

Call the gasman, cut the power out
We can set out, we can set out for the distant skies
