Every year, we celebrated the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels. It gives us a chance to reflect on the role of angels in God's Glory. Most of us think of angels as gentle, peaceful creatures. But if you've ever seen a common image of Michael the Archangel, he's depicted as anything but gentle or peaceful. At his most fierce, we see him in the midst of a vicious fight with dragons and evil looking creatures. It's an indication of the true nature of Satan, and the true nature of a spiritual warfare that we don't see in our natural human form.
In this message, on the Feast of St. Michel and All Angels, we learn that despite their superiority over us in every way, God's order tasks angels with protecting us from certain things that are seen and unseen. That protection and order under God gives us unimaginable authority in our lives and on this earth.
