"Mzungu" in Africa, on the other hand, is often used more neutrally and can mean a foreigner or someone of European descent, with more privileges, and without the same historical weight.

There's a reason why the price for the locals is different from the foreigners. There was a time in Kenya insecurity was the thing. Shababs made this country their playground. With that came the travel advisories from US. And we all know, once US places your country as a high risk, their allies follow. Tourism was never a Kenyan thing. We saw that as something the Westerners did. We were not even curious about doing domestic tourism until those Sanctions hit our Tourism sector hard. Remember, we rely heavily on tourism to build our economy. Hotels shut down, staff lost jobs. So the government of the day had to come up with ways to save the tourism sector. And among the things they implemented was introduction of a package to attract locals to do domestic tourism. This changed and saved us from total collapse. Getting us to pay the foreigners price will just reverse everything. Remember, most of us come from areas with beaches and some live near wild animals, we can always decide there's nothing new to see. But having that local package ensures that our brothers and sisters in the Hospitality sector are not adversely affected next time US come for us with travel advisories.

mzungu originated from Swahili for traveller, whites/Europeans who were explorers and later they visit as tourists and these people had money to spend,(most European tourists prefer East Africa for the weather, and also The variation in weather, landscape, communities, diversity)as they escape Winter in Europe... therefore hiked prices are for tourists, locals Even if white are treated as locals [tourists are treated as holiday spenders...thus higher prices)
