    Great job on this engine. I have 18HP Evinrude from1963 ad this thing works perfect. It pushes 15 feet Sears semi V from 1973 really fast. I have also Chrysler 15 HP which need some work. Funny thing happened, i got this engine with the boat and owner told me that after rebuilding carb he couldn't start it. I checked compression and upper cylinder had no compression and lower very little. The head gasket was cracked open to water passage and I could actually moved piston sideways. I was waiting on head gasket and in mean time I soaked the top of the pistons with carb cleaner and other additives I had on hand and after few days the rings got freed and compression returned. Can't wait to try it; still have snow on the ground .

    Is that a 20" shaft? Jack plate installed? Assuming 15" transom on that Jon boat. I've got a 73 Collins with a 15" transom and a 1975 Evinrude 25hp 20" shaft. Can't get it to plane in any shaft position. Anti-ventilation plate is two inches below the transom on mine. Love your videos!

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  3 місяці тому +1

      Hey. Thanks for tuning in! No it's a short shaft. Yes 15" transom. Yeah the more outboard in the water the more drag. Well you could just remove the 5" extension and look for a short shaft on ebay then cut the shift shaft down 9" I believe it was, or do the jack plate thing. There are easy DIY plans on the internet and pretty cheap to do. Sometimes you can find jack plates on craigslist and facebook marketplace at a good price too. Check them out! Thanks again & Stay tuned !

    I have one I'm having a saga with! starts and runs at only high revs to keep it running but lower revs it wont idle it cuts out immediately carb is clean sparks are new brand new fuel pump and lines mixture needle doesn't seem to effect anything either way. The needle is there and intact (I've seen them snap the tip off on other evinrude) but i can't see any fault I don't want to give up on the old girl yet, anything else you think i could check Help! Lol great channel keep up the videos babyy

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  4 роки тому +2

      Hey. If your not getting any idle or really any response from adjusting the needle then its most likely your slow speed idle circuit is clogged. The 2-3 little holes in the throat of the carb just above the butterfly. Take the carb off, turn it upside down and pull the butterfly back and you'll see them. They need to be smokin clean or the needle is doing nothing. Rather then explaining it all just check out my carb video. If this dosent work you may have an air leak somewhere. Is your needle retainer new or in excellent condition ? Curious to know what happens. Thanks & Stay tuned !

      @@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 checked the idle circuit holes were clear blasted air through all the holes/jets in the carb I found a little screw in a hole at the bottom of the carb bowl didn't realise it screwed out like a jet when you put a screw driver through the bowl drain hole and i found a tiny little bit of gunk which wasn't what I thought would be enough to block it but it obviously must have been just enough! Soaked it all in carb cleaner all night and today I put it all back together and hey she's back baby!! she's running like a champ saved herself from the parts pile! It's responding nice to the needle tuning started 1 and a 1/4 found her spot, I'm putting it on my 3.5m Avon rib with fiberglass hull it's Gona be fast babyyy! • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  4 роки тому

      Hey, Yeah could be a bad condenser, bad/dirty points or not set right, bad coil, bad plug or plug wire. I just went through this with the video I put up this morning on the 40hp Johnson. Turned out just the coil wasnt grounded good. Start with the plugs and swap them out and get that out of the way. If still no fire pull the flywheel off. Now, there are two ways you can go, either replace everything with new parts or start swapping them one at a time.Pain in the u no what! But first the easiest, I would clean the points and reset them, at this point you might as well clean/reset both sets. Check spark again. Still no fire, swap condensers, still no fire, Then its the coil or plug wire. Check continuity on the plug wire, if its good then its the coil. Let me know how it goes. You can find a manual here, boatinfo.no. Thanks !

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  6 років тому +1

      what year/model is it, are you sure its a ''fastwin'', are you sure its a 25hp? are you sure your using the correct spark plug and gapped correctly? check your compression it may be low on that cylinder, check for strong spark with a spark tester, adjust your carb it may be running to rich , check your thermostat it may not be running at proper temperature, try a ''hotter'' plug. There is no quick fix. Its a process of elimination.

    • @MoneyThao
      @MoneyThao 6 років тому

      Yes it is a 25 fastwind, not sure the yrs but looks like its from 69, when this guy sale to me. It came with a plug that has no gap. You know those that just flate on the end.

      Hey. You dont need any special tools to pull that gear case apart, but you may have trouble getting the screws out if they are corroded. If the gears aren't to far gone you can soak them in white vinegar to get the rust off, if you need to replace them try ebay. Sometimes its easier/cheaper to just swap out the gear case thanks
