@@defenderoftruth3212 This is a very idiotic idea. First, Jesus died and resurrected in 30 A.D., the popular 33 A.D. date is based on a miscalculation. He was also born in 6 B.C., not 1 A.D. The fact that we have little to no information on most of Jesus' life does not prove anything. His ministry started with His baptism and ended with His ascension. His birth was the only other interesting part of His life because it was miraculous. The Gospels include one narrative from the period after Jesus' birth and before His ministry: His journey to the Temple at twelve years old, as it is the first time He suggested His Messianic mission to the people around Him. He did not do any miracles or teach before He arrived in Bethany by the Jordan river. There is no point in describing His life back then, especially because He met His first disiples (Andrew, John and Peter) a day after His baptism.
I think he never meant for it to be written down as he just used the revelations when it suited him while still alive. After he died they probably used the known christian and jewish stories to fill it up to make the Quran. Only those were the wrong gnostic stories.

Some years ago "learned Muslim scholars" were willing to debate but were always made to look bad & lose the debate because no matter how smart they were they simply couldn't stand up against the valid research. Arabic of the early 7th century did not contain the important vowel points and diacritical marks...using only consonants and making many words written the same but meaning different definitions. The original proto-Quran was written in Syrio-Aramaic...NOT Arabic. The early Muslims mistranslated much of the Quran by thinking it was Arabic when it was Syrio-Aramaic.

The Bible contradicts any form of antitrinitarianism. Jesus' divinity was well known and undisputed by the time of the Apostles. We have clear evidence that late first century Christians already believed that Jesus was God, and it is also clearly what the Apostles taught. This is simply not true, the quran that exists now is not even the original quran and there are many contradictions, the ones that come to mind are the verses regarding the angel(s) that visited Mary, and the conception of Jesus. It also has Jewish folk stories in it, stories Jews used to tell their children about talking ants, flying carpets etc. The biggest concern however, is the claim Muhammad is a descendant of Ishmael, even if there was proof of this, in Genesis (also acknowledged in quran ch 29 vs 27), God promised Ishmael would be a great nation but He made the prophethood covenant with his brother Isaac only. Prophets would descent from Isaac not Ishmael, so even if Muhammad was a descendant of Ishmael, he could not be a prophet.

And if you read Deuteronomy 18:18-20, the prophet mentioned in verse 18 wouldn't die like muhammad died; Deuteronomy 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. According to Islam, Muhammad definitely died, Jesus never did. According to Christians, the Jews crucified Jesus but only killed the flesh not the Spirit, the flesh was resurrected on the 3rd day anyway. Also Jesus knew the Torah back to front, and is the Word of God in Islam and Christianity, muhammad was not. If you read the prophet criteria given in Deuteronomy 34:10-11, you'll see muhammad could not be a prophet like Moses; 10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, Moses spoke to God face to face (Exodus 33:11), muhammad never did, even Aisha said he never saw his lord. Jesus said He and the Father are One (John 10:30). 11 In all the signs and the wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land, Moses performed miracles (at least 5) so did Jesus, Muhammad never did (quran ch 28 vs 48-49, testifies muhammad never performed miracles like Moses).

There's a lot of mismatch between what the Standard Islamic Narrative claims, and what must be the case. This narrative is the account written 2 centuries on from when Mohammed is alleged to have lived, in biographies but they are not much trusted even by muslims, and hadiths, traditions, of which there are a number of collections, including top ones that are meant to be authentic selections. Muslims often claim the Quran must be perfectly preserved because of the reliability of recitation, but you can see here, that there are all sorts of problems there, if one accepts key hadiths about the standardisation of the Quran. If the Quran is true, then for instance, you have it insisting Jesus did not decease on the cross, he was not God's son,, but a mere prophet, and then you could end up accepting the low moral standards in the Quran, as well as jihad, mistreatment of non-muslims, and so on. As a christian, we should want the truth to come out, as we should want people to put trust in Jesus as their Saviour, albeit that is a free will choice, not something forced. So do you believe in the reliability of recitation, for holding the Quran "true" to its original? If the hadiths are right, there are problems there, e.g there must have been very many aberrant versions early on, leading Uthman to burn many written versions in 652 (allegedly). Separate from that there are issues e.g the earliest sizey manuscript is the Sanaa one, maybe early 7C, and it has an earlier text scraped off and written over, that infrared picks up, and it does differ. Arabic itself was a problematic script in the 7C, of the northern type used by the Quran, so that errors could easily come. Hard to believe it was passed on by recitation by Arabs though, since errors are made in transposing from Aramaic sources to Arabic, as in the original Arabic would have it correct, roughly, but errors have crept in from misreading the poor early Arabic script (but if recited it would not, they'd get the vowels and consonants correct).
In the gospels, it is mentioned that Jesus was sent. Jesus was a human messenger of God among many human messengers of God that were sent throughout history. The human messengers of God were chosen from humans and were sent to convey message to other humans. The one God who sent Jesus is the same one God who sent Noah is the same one God who sent Abraham is the same one God who sent Moses. Jesus did not send Jesus. The one God sent Jesus. The one God is not Jesus. The one God is the most High and the one who sends, not someone who is sent. Chosen messengers of God were sent by God throughout history to warn their communities of their errors. Noah and Abraham were messengers of God who were sent to warn their communities of their errors of idolatry and the consequences of Hellfire. Idolatry is a grave error and an unforgivable sin. The only way is to repent and leave that believe and practise. Muhammad was also sent to warn the arab pagans at the time of their errors of idolatry. From this fragment we can conclude that John was completed well before A.D. 130 because, not only did the gospel have to be written, it had to be hand copied and make its way down from Greece to Egypt.

@@defenderoftruth3212 This is a very idiotic idea. First, Jesus died and resurrected in 30 A.D., the popular 33 A.D. date is based on a miscalculation. He was also born in 6 B.C., not 1 A.D. The fact that we have little to no information on most of Jesus' life does not prove anything. His ministry started with His baptism and ended with His ascension. His birth was the only other interesting part of His life because it was miraculous. The Gospels include one narrative from the period after Jesus' birth and before His ministry: His journey to the Temple at twelve years old, as it is the first time He suggested His Messianic mission to the people around Him. He did not do any miracles or teach before He arrived in Bethany by the Jordan river. There is no point in describing His life back then, especially because He met His first disiples (Andrew, John and Peter) a day after His baptism.
I think he never meant for it to be written down as he just used the revelations when it suited him while still alive. After he died they probably used the known christian and jewish stories to fill it up to make the Quran. Only those were the wrong gnostic stories.

Arabic of the early 7th century did not contain the important vowel points and diacritical marks...using only consonants and making many words written the same but meaning different definitions. The original proto-Quran was written in Syrio-Aramaic...NOT Arabic. The early Muslims mistranslated much of the Quran by thinking it was Arabic when it was Syrio-Aramaic.

We have clear evidence that late first century Christians already believed that Jesus was God, and it is also clearly what the Apostles taught. This is simply not true, the quran that exists now is not even the original quran and there are many contradictions, the ones that come to mind are the verses regarding the angel(s) that visited Mary, and the conception of Jesus. It also has Jewish folk stories in it, stories Jews used to tell their children about talking ants, flying carpets etc. The biggest concern however, is the claim Muhammad is a descendant of Ishmael, even if there was proof of this, in Genesis (also acknowledged in quran ch 29 vs 27), God promised Ishmael would be a great nation but He made the prophethood covenant with his brother Isaac only. Prophets would descent from Isaac not Ishmael, so even if Muhammad was a descendant of Ishmael, he could not be a prophet.

The Glorious Qur'an is a book for recitation. How it's being recited today is the same since the time of prophet Muhammad( pbuh ). We recite the Qur'an in our five daily prayers. According to Islam, Muhammad definitely died, Jesus never did. According to Christians, the Jews crucified Jesus but only killed the flesh not the Spirit, the flesh was resurrected on the 3rd day anyway.
Also Jesus knew the Torah back to front, and is the Word of God in Islam and Christianity, muhammad was not.
If you read the prophet criteria given in Deuteronomy 34:10-11, you'll see muhammad could not be a prophet like Moses;

Moses spoke to God face to face (Exodus 33:11), muhammad never did, even Aisha said he never saw his lord. Jesus said He and the Father are One (John 10:30).

Moses performed miracles (at least 5) so did Jesus, Muhammad never did (quran ch 28 vs 48-49, testifies muhammad never performed miracles like Moses).

I'm a Christian, but not really seeing how your questions are of any substance. Asking why things happened is not countering anything. Also, memorization is how we recieved parts of the OT and NT so to just dismiss it is a dangerous thing. The most troubling were the first two questions. Who are we to question God?

There's a lot of mismatch between what the Standard Islamic Narrative claims, and what must be the case. This narrative is the account written 2 centuries on from when Mohammed is alleged to have lived, in biographies but they are not much trusted even by muslims, and hadiths, traditions, of which there are a number of collections, including top ones that are meant to be authentic selections. Muslims often claim the Quran must be perfectly preserved because of the reliability of recitation, but you can see here, that there are all sorts of problems there, if one accepts key hadiths about the standardisation of the Quran. If the Quran is true, then for instance, you have it insisting Jesus did not decease on the cross, he was not God's son,, but a mere prophet, and then you could end up accepting the low moral standards in the Quran, as well as jihad, mistreatment of non-muslims, and so on. As a christian, we should want the truth to come out, as we should want people to put trust in Jesus as their Saviour, albeit that is a free will choice, not something forced. Jay is preparing for actual 7C goings on from academic Stephen Shoemaker's book, but not discussing that yet in this episode.

So do you believe in the reliability of recitation, for holding the Quran "true" to its original? If the hadiths are right, there are problems there, e.g there must have been very many aberrant versions early on, leading Uthman to burn many written versions in 652 (allegedly). Separate from that there are issues e.g the earliest sizey manuscript is the Sanaa one, maybe early 7C, and it has an earlier text scraped off and written over, that infrared picks up, and it does differ. Arabic itself was a problematic script in the 7C, of the northern type used by the Quran, so that errors could easily come. Hard to believe it was passed on by recitation by Arabs though, since errors are made in transposing from Aramaic sources to Arabic, as in the original Arabic would have it correct, roughly, but errors have crept in from misreading the poor early Arabic script (but if recited it would not, they'd get the vowels and consonants correct).

The story of Gabriel appearing before Mary(Maryam) to inform her about her future son (Jesus/Isa) is also mentioned in the gospels.
*Angels informing the coming of a newborn child is consistent with angels visiting Abraham and his wife informing them about their future son, Isaac and Jacob and an angel informing Zachariah about his future son, John (Yahya), both incidents mentioned in the current gospels and in the Quran.
Angel Gabriel (Jibril) is mentioned by name as the one who brought down the Quran to Prophet Muhammad:
Say, "Whoever is an enemy to Jibril (Gabriel) - it is he who has brought it (the Qur'an) down upon your heart, [O Muhammad], by permission of Allah, confirming that which was before it and as guidance and good tidings for the believers."
Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and His messengers and Jibril and Mikal (Michael) - then indeed, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.
