I sure do miss Schwegmann's. I remember even when they closed them people just couldn't believe it. That and K&B. And McKenzies. And Krauss. And Maison Blanche. The 90s were brutal on our beloved places.

Hi NolaDeej! What a great building! I hope they never tear it down! I can just imagine going in there in 1900 and picking out bags of sugar and flour! It's a shame it has suffered graffiti and a little outside damage. Keep us posted on its condition when you can. Great history! Thanks for sharing!

Very informative video! I remember going to the one near Gen De Gaulle and Tall Timbers when I was a kid with my gma during the 80s-90s and was one of those folks looking for some nostalgic memorabilia once I left N.O. 💕 People are always looking for what reminds them of their good times. I am in my 30s and I still miss Schwegmann's. But why? I guess those huge old stores left an impression on me as a child. I played tourist last year and almost bought a t-shirt that says "Schwegmann's". It was $28 so I said NOPE.

Excellent video, Deej. Part of me hopes that we will see a resurgence in mom and pop stores again in our lifetime but I know that in today's internet world, it isn't likely. My grandfather owned a small grocery store in Chicago and it will forever hold the fondest memories of my childhood.

I'm going to come buy it! move in and then figure out what to make it what kind of business would do good in that neighborhood it's changed a lot! the needs of that community really don't need a coffee shop! What do you think would do best there besides me just making it into a really cool house! There's just not enough yard or any for that matter. thank you so much it's a great show!

That 1st building was also known as the old bell market also Piety street grocery, I used to work there when it was Piety street grocery.
My Aunt stayed in the 900 block of Desire around the corner. Right up the street you had the Cresent star bar and Mr lily's TV repair shop
