Of all the puzzles in my collection, the Maltese Gear Cube is BY FAR the most difficult. The algorithms for it are VERY long, so you have a more likely chance of messing up and having to restart. I’ve only ever solved it twice with an algorithm sheet. Both times took me over and hour.

@@oliwiaopilowska4743 There is an English tutorial + it has a doc with all the algorithms and the whole method. It's really well explained though solving it is still quite hard. I've solved 3-4 times and every time it takes well over an hour, mainly because I will always mess it up a few time and have to redo the whole thing from the start. The 100+ moves algorithm is a nightmare, especially since you need to do some setup moves before doing it and then remember to reverse them at the end.

You were actually pretty close on Tinboy's challenge, so well done!
And when I saw the Maltese Gear Cube puzzle in the thumbnail, I knew you were screwed with that one right away, haha. xD Even more so when I heard you only had 10 minutes. I doubt you'd be able to solve it even if you had all day, ngl. It's nothing like a regular Gear Cube. I don't own it myself, but I remember RedKB said it was his hardest puzzle about 10 years ago (the 3D printed version), and one of the few he never once fully solved. And iirc, because the puzzle moves a lot of pieces around at the same time in its turns, the algorithms you'd have to come up with will be very, very long, and in addition, A LOT of setup moves are required to cycle the pieces, which makes it easy to make a mistake when undoing those after the long algorithms.
As I mentioned, I don't have the Maltese Gear puzzle myself. But the way it acts like a 3x3x3 Mixup Cube (where edge and center pieces can be interchanged) seems pretty similar to the Geared Mixup I own, which was the most difficult puzzle I was able to solve entirely on my own. Now tbf, I'm not a great solver at all, and usually resort to tutorials rather quickly, but I do own over 400 puzzles, and especially after gaining more experience later on, I was able to solve quite a bunch of them myself. And the Geared Mixup is defintely not an easy puzzle, so I'm quite proud of being able to solve it using my own devised algorithms from scratch. Having said that, it took a few months, haha. ;) And this Maltese Cube looks even harder than the Geared Mixup.
Searching on YT, I was able to find just one English and one Spanish Maltese Gear Cube tutorial, both about 1-1.5 hours each, hahaha. XD If the tutorial with example solve take that long, I doubt anyone would be able to solve it without knowledge in 10 minutes. Still a great video, though!

Maltese gear cube was an instant L lmao. That thing probably takes about as long as 9x9 or 10x10 if you know how to solve it AND you don't mess up. It's very easy to mess up so for me an average solve takes 1.5h if not more.
