Link's Awakening is my favorite but I will not scream or argue because it is like Ghibli films - your favorite is often your first and art is subjective. Also hi Dweeb! Great channel. :)
Link's Awakening (GB) is the first I owned, but not the first I played. That was A Link to the Past. Which wasn't as good. Link's Awakening had an ingenious mapping system (uncovering those squares one at a time really incentivized exploration in a way that no other non-GB/GBC Zelda game comes close to), and an overworld that *felt* relatively open while still wordlessly guiding you to where you needed to go next. The fact that the sword was swappable with other inventory items, and the fact that you only had two item buttons, lead the devs to experiment more with puzzles and areas that didn't *need* the sword. Which gives the game an interesting puzzley vibe, and even the trading sequence added to that: it was intuitive and not too overdrawn, like a puzzle itself. And the story was equal parts whimsical and heart-wrenching. Are you a hero, or a destroyer of worlds? These days I'd definitely recommend the DX version for the full-color artwork, but not the Switch remake. The remake got rid of that amazing mapping system, and gave the game a toy-like graphical style that, while nice-looking, kind of undermines the emotional impact of it all.
@@Pookielove1123 Things I'd do to fix the Switch version: give it a graphical style more like A Link Between Worlds, and give it a sqare-by-square mapping system even though the camera follows the player (see the mapping system in Cassette Beasts).
I've been enjoying Dusty Game Society, it's something I look forward too each month. It has helped me remember a hobby that enjoyed that I lost, because I was to focused on work
I don't think Minish Cap is my favourite of the 2d Zelda games (that would have to be Oracle of Ages) but it is the one I come back to and replay the most (basically every time I get a new retro handheld). It has such great graphics, music, and an overall cosy vibe that so few games manage to capture. The last time I played this, I was stuck in a hospital bed for a week and all I had to entertain myself was my miyoo mini. Of all the games I could have chosen during that time, I ended up picking Minish Cap and it really helped me escape mentally during that time. Great review as always (I'm going to have to join the dusty game society if you keep playing great titles like this!)
What you described at the onset of the video about a hidden, magical world is not lame at all and is very similar to what Shigeru Miyamoto ascribes to his own inspiration for Legend of Zelda!
I’m 29 now and at the time when I bought this game when it came out, I was so mesmerized by the Cover Art and I had previously played wind Waker and I saw the similarities in the art and I assumed it was a sequel but besides the point I enjoyed every minute of this game I know a lot of people complain about the kin stone pieces, but it was really nice going around the world seeing who you can match pieces with it gave a sense of exploration and adventure and then seeing that little bubble pop on a person‘s head as you approach them really my dopamine I enjoyed the game nonetheless, but if I had to make any suggestions, I wish they would’ve added some portrait art when characters speak and some more side quests similar to majora’s mask maybe we can reunite two people who are lovers or maybe a secret here or there
The tri-force of 2d Zelda games, are all the ones with a version of switching your existence. Link to the past, Link Between Worlds, and The Minish Cap. Not to discount Links Awakening or other handheld titles like Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks. I never played the Oracles, and I never played 4 Swords... so sue me. ohh also as an edit: My MiyooA30 came with The Minish Cap installed and its fantastic.
I bought the amblernic 353p because of you and the game i played the most was this one! And you gotta love the Minish village theme! I love this game some much i even considered to buy an original one just to actually own this beautiful beautiful game
I finally just got a copy recently and I’m going to play it soon. I just wish some of these older handheld titles were so expensive. Cause I still need a couple more to have all of the handheld Zelda games.
I started playing minish cap on my miyoo mini plus because I was outside and didn't have another console. I thought I I was just gonna play it for an hour or two to kill some time, and I ended up playing it for like a month until I finished it because I was so intrigued, I liked it that much. I'm a new Zelda player, before finishing this one the only other Zelda that I had finished was breath of the wild, which doesn't really follow the classic Zelda formula of completing dungeons. I also tried playing ocarina of time before and I never finished it because I got so frustrated because it wasn't as straightforward as I thought (before this I only played really simple games like crash bandicoot or basic spider man games which are essentially move forward and punch enemies). But after playing Minish Cap, I totally got that the dungeons not being straightforward was the point. This was the game that made me want to play more Zeldas, to me it had the perfect balance of and interesting world that I wanted to explore, it's complex enough that it doesn't feel pointless but not so hard that it becomes frustrating, and the world is interesting enough that it does feel magical. I would argue that it is the perfect game to get someone into Zelda games.
@@battousai9795 funny thing is this is more or less what happened to me when never approached the saga before and bought when it was released Link to the Past for my GF and her GBA SP and she told me to try it and I couldn’t stop playing until finish it, we both been new to the saga in those times. Then went to play Ocarina and since then every Zelda.

Before playing Minish Cap, I had a myriad of other Zelda games under my belt and I was so charmed by the items. It felt so good in game to play with these new items. I plan on getting a tattoo of the opening sequence of when you visit the Minish for the first time because it was so beautiful!
Minish Cap remains one of my favorite GBA titles. And as a Zelda game it checks all the boxes. Wonderful soundtrack, amazing gameplay. Gripping story. Art style that is unmatched. An absolute GBA masterpiece and a solid Zelda title.
If you like this games art, i would recommend Lady Sia if you haven't already played it. It's got some really cool cartoon style art, and its pretty fun.
The Minish Cap is by far the best 2D Zelda game. I liked it so much more than A Link to The Past and the Zelda games on the GB and GBC. The game is absolutely gorgeous, and the music is SO GOOD!

This was always my favorite Zelda. It didn't have to be part of a bigger story or anything and it was so much fun. My second favorite is the one where Link can go into a 2-D side scroll on the walls. The bird is definitely snarky. haha.
to me Links Awakening will always be the best 2d Zelda. Not only was it crazy back then to have a full world to discover on a handheld, it also defined the series with the item combination feature. the oracles games are also great and should be played right after LA.
It is indeed, I wish Link Awakening and the new Wisdom being also made in 2D with Minish´cap style, I own original cartridges for both Link to the Past and Minish Cap on GBA, and I own an Analogue Pocket, Nintendo DS with GBA slot, and a gorgeous GBA SP AGS101, and I always came back to them from time to time.

The footage you get from your -hands- handhelds is gorgeous! Minish Cap is a great game, but terrible for completionists. First one I've beaten on my trimui smart pro.
I started playing it about 2 months ago and kind of have mixed feelings so far. It's definitely enjoyable, but sometimes the amount of stuff you have to do between dungeons is annoying, like when you have to track down and return the books to the library. And the shrinking/growing mechanic just makes quests like this one feel more tedious than it needs to be. And it also gets a little boring when almost everything you find is another Kinstone piece. I'm taking a little break from it for now, but I'll definitely go back and finish it.
Still haven't continued this game. I finished linked to the past last december on my FB stream and made a new game of Minish Cap then my RG35xx screen broke so I haven't continued this game yet
Zelda: the minish cap is in my opinion the best and most beautiful GBA game
Okay, I can agree with THIS statement.
Minish cap and gunstar superheroes are the 2 best looking gba games ive ever seen.
I'd throw Golden Sun (1 & 2) into the ring as well. Such pretty games!

My first actual Zelda experience. Best entry to become familiar with series, in my opinion
