His defense was the biggest improvement over last year. He doesn't get the credit he deserves for his defense because he's not a huge shot blocker, but his overall defensive impact on the squad this year was absolutely massive. His IQ is off the charts, he gets a ton of steals and deflections, he takes charges, he's a great defensive rebounder, he makes fast and decisive choices and communicates well. The rest of the basketball world is just lucky the man doesn't have hops.
While his defense was improved I think the correct answer is his leadership ability improved a ton this year. Before Injury Jamal was the vocal leader of the team, but Joker took that role over this year.
And I think anyone who has to say stuff like the rest of world lucky he doesn't have hops don't understand Basketball.. people think athleticism is an important bball trait and it isn't. Players like Jokic with high IQs last alot longer then Athletic Freaks like Stromile Swift. He is 7 foot tall for goodness sake. He doesn't need a 36 inch verticle. I was always a Spurs fan. Timmy, DIrk and Manu were my favs to watch. When they retired, seeing how players act in some cases, I thought I won't see anyone like them again. Humble, down to Earth, silent, composed, natural leader, a savant just special in every way. Still a spurs fan, but I watch every Nuggets game I can, just because of Nikola.
