Košice Coat of Arms is actually the oldest coat of arms dedicated to a city in the world.

We live in Kosice, hubby born and raised here. When my husband was about 12 the bell tower caught fire, as the supports gave way, the bell fell thru floor after floor. My husbands grandfather took him yto see the fire, so he saw the whole thing. I think the 5 euros to get into the church is more of a donation, I’ve never seen anyone be asked for money. The side door is always open. The little river running thru Kosice is a favorite with the little ones. They like to sail little boats down the water, or like my step grandson, sail a shoe down the water

Visiting Košice and properly appreciating it ? You, sir, are a man of fine taste. ;-)
Your pronunciation of Hrnčiarska was accurate ! Potter street. And yes, the traditional workshops on Hrnčiarska include a pottery and ceramics workshop, all hand-manufactured locally.
I bought a great ceramic teapot at the pottery workshop on Hrnčiarska a few years ago. Me and my relatives have used it during the holidays ever since, as our special teapot.
Fun fact about the Košice coat of arms: It's actually the oldest municipal coat of arms in Europe. There wasn't much of a tradition in Europe to use coats of arms for cities until Louis I Great granted Košice their coat of arms (the oldest, most basic variation) in 1369. What was an oddball idea in the 14th century Kingdom of Hungary (until then, coats of arms were largelly reserved only for the nobility and a few institutions) gained traction throughout Europe and became a fairly standard thing, especially for cities and larger towns. As for the Košice coat of arms, the 1502 coat of arms has become the preferred one in the modern day simply for esthetic reasons, even if it's not the oldest. (The original 14th century version was very much in line with Louis' ruling Hungarian branch of the Anjevins. The late 15th century and early 16th century kept the main features, while adding some Polish elements in honour of Wladyslav/Vladislaus II's second, Polish wife. So the Polish-born, penultimate king of medieval Hungary, even if his reign wasn't too successful, essentially gave the Košice coat of arms its final and most popular form. There's also a fun bit of Poland-related irony in this, as Louis I already formed a Polish-Hungarian personal union back in the 14th century. )
The Lower Gate archaeological exhibit (the one underground) is usually open, but it might have been closed when you visited (due to maintenance or something else).

This is a very beautiful and quiet town. Happy drinking beer and cycling in the old town. If my flight hadn't been cancelled, I could have stayed two days longer. It's summer 2018.

It's the hidden gem of the hidden gem, as the entire country of Slovakia is a hidden gem, as it is almost as good (Or maybe equal or better) than it's more known neighbor to the west in Czech Republic. Anyways, great video!

Happy to see you enjoyed our city. We actually have a river. In old times it was flowing next to the city center (just behind the first street in your video). But after WW2 it was moved away. I guess some safety reasons since it can flood the historic center. In old river bad there is now 4 lane car street a bit under ground level. Some years ago painted a blue waves here so we don't forget there was a river here. Actually You missed one of the coolest p[laces in the city. Palace of Jakob (on the way to train station). This was just on top of the river.
The entrance fee to Cathedral is confusing a lot of tourists. This is actually a fee if you want to climb on top of the tower of the cathedral. Otherwise it is free to enter from what ever door is opened at the moment.
The bell is actually from the tower not cathedral. There was fire in the tower some hundreds years ago and the bell fell almost on the same spot it is present now. That is why it is so broken.
The lower gate used to be opened as a museum. But so few people came they just closed it. It is possible to get in on some special events or exhibitions from time to time. Actually a bit more south there is big shopping center Aupark. It has underground parking garage in which there are another parts of city fortifications from middle ages. So this defense wall used to be really massive.
You are lucky you did see the fountain working. We actually call it singing fountain. It was under renovation for a year and opened just this year. You are also standing under the little bells. On each hour they ring a nice melody as well.

I got ick from you saying Košiče(Ko-shi-tzhe) instead it should be Košice(Ko-shi-tze). Also, cathedral entry is for free, you only have to pay I guess 3-5€ for tower with nice view of the main street which is totally worth it for such price. Nevertheless, thanks for coming and showing Košice to the world, it’s nice place with a lot to offer :)
