I worked on the engines on flightline B52G's and KC135's and sometimes with headsets to communicate with people in the planes which offered no protection against the noise and sometimes with ear plugs and a headset which offered a litlle protection. You have no idea how loud these planes are with one engine being run and sometimes all 4 on the 135 or all 8 on the 52 and sometimes more than one plane out on the line. The ground crew in this video had no headsets and maybe plugs. I guarantee you they have significant hearing loss as those engines on the Backfire are huge. Also, one guy gets pretty close to the intake which could be fatal. More than one guy has been sucked up into the engines if they got to close. All that said the Backfire is a really awesome plane.
They are definitely using ear plugs, it gives you better protection, less discomfort, doesn't cancel human voice and you don't even need to yell to communicate.
I have to give it to the Russians. They really know how to build turbine engines that are high quality and efficient. Or if you look at the color of the flames it’s blue/purple.
