soot buildup is also because you are using gas with the vent closed. The oven creates soot because it is a yellow flame (incomplete combustion) over gas, but the soot deposits in the chimney. In the roccbox the soot ends up on the front of the oven.

Quick tip: Add in a stone flip to each cleaning session. I find that because the bottom of the stone is getting repeatedly hot but not encountering new contamination it gets cleaned in the process of cooking. Now that this side was actively cleaned it will only continue to get cleaner during successive cooks before you flip it back over.
