Glenn talking about how he needs to win because he put so much effort into being healthy immediately reminded me of Jeff from Community having a breakdown over that exact same thing
I could almost guarantee meg thought of that if she was working on community at the time
This episode felt like watching a Sunny episode, it’s the most in-character I’ve ever seen the guys. From Charlie being vaguely unsure what a doctor does, to Glenn’s hypothetical existential crisis over not winning, to Rob “do you think you are going to die”, this is the hardest I’ve laughed in a while
Rob's Mac moment was the colonoscopy for me haha. But i commented about the same thing.
I REALLY wish they'd do an entire podcast 100% in character, there's a show called "Trailer Park Boys" and they started a podcast years ago-but they've done the *entire* thing 100% in total character, and it's exponentially better than if they weren't. Not saying they should have that as a permanent setup or anything but for one episode that'd be a great idea and just plain perfect 👌
@@CommanderLongJohn Woah, trailer park boys have a podcast? Will check it out, I had no idea
@@SythPls Yep they've had one since about 2015-2016 👍Used to listen/watch them all the time at work until I had seen them so much I had to take a very long break lol
“Don’t you just want it all to eventually end?”
And now a word from our sponsor Better Help!
The greatest segway of all time. Love this podcast as usual
Of course Charlie shares Doctors with Frank, gotta keep the gruesome twosome healthy
The Perks right? That's why they got married. Just two dudes, being married. Nothing gay about that!
We're finally going to see who's been eating the apples with the skins on
This could be a sunny episode. Everybody competes to see who is the healthiest and it ends up being Frank.
I love Glen describing a very basic checkup as if it's not western medicine.
The fact that most people, particularly young people, don’t regularly go to doctors for check ups in the US is more about money than lack of preventative care practiced. You need insurance and you need to take time off work.
From the sound of it, I'm pretty sure Glen sees a functional doctor, who focus on general health, he's still a doctor, but they're proactive, will prescribe herbs sometimes, and are almost never covered by insurance.
@@frostypickle nah, health care is free here in Canada and almost no young person goes in for check ups either...I don't think I ever have went for a check up in my life and I'm 30...There's nowhere near enough family physicians for us all to have personal doctors (and that's not due to not enough people wanting to be doctors, it's a shortage by design unfortunately)
charlie laughing at the blood pressure machine everytime it says abnormal is an extremely sunny thing to do lol
Kinda odd that the phlebotomist said that 159/78 is pretty good. Because it’s not lol. The top number is pretty high. From what I can remember robs reading is prehypertension-hypertension level which definitely isn’t ideal.
@@Xbitxx nah, you have to factor in the situation. The systolic is high prob bc he’s filming a podcast, the diastolic is normal and is a better indicator of how the bp is long-term
@@C0URTNEYYYYYYYY_______________ no bro. That phlebotomist knew nothing about what she was talking about in terms of good blood pressure readings. Also, they tested their blood pressure again with a real doctor on their podcast with a real blood pressure monitor and got way better results. There is no world where 159/78 is “pretty good.” If anything it’s “pretty bad”. 120/80 is considered ideal
@@Xbitxx ok, it’s just what I do every day as a career, but ok
@@C0URTNEYYYYYYYY_______________ yeah that’s cool and all…Pretty much my whole family works in the medical field including me. My mother is an RN as well. 160/79 is NOT “pretty good” the diastolic was fine but the systolic was pretty high and yes I understand that nerves, anxiety, stress etc can make bp rise. Those wrist monitors that she used are not the most accurate. All of their Bps were pretty elevated yet she assured them that it was really good. When the real doctor came in and tested them all with a legitimate bp cuff, they all had far better readings.
Glenn's doctor is also testing the limits of his insurance policy
That "doctor" probably sells his own special vitamins to Glenn for thousands. Glenn has the most expensive urine of anyone.
Charlie laughing at Megs blood pressure being abnormal made laugh so damn hard dude 😂 47:07
Rob is way too much like Mac. "I don't like being around anyone with authority." Project Badass for life, Rob!
Sucks because it sounds like the reason is he wants to be the authority lol
@@rickylefebvreas someone with adhd i have an incredibly difficult time around people with authority for lots of different reasons, rob also has adhd so i can guess that might be a reason
Charlie is SO SERIOUS this episode. He is not messing around about his health 😂
I think he also didn't want to get lumped in with Rob and Glenn's pseudo/bro-science discussion.
@@evanm1164 you’re right. He was pretty much like “your mental health comes first and everything else will fall into place”
I'm shocked Charlie didn't ask where to put his feet when they measured his units of stress.
Love the conscious decision not to cut to Meg after Glenn's parable at 24:00. You just know she was biting her tongue to stop from asking him if he heard that story from his doctor.
Lol at Charlie's concerned face while Glenn goes anti-science
“Anti science “ like injecting yourself with five experimental vaccines for “health. Lol
I love Glenn until he starts talking about anything science. Charlie is definitely the smartest out of the 3, simply for understanding the concept of experts.
@@amityislandchum it was the biggest shock to me based on the show but he's so measured, sensitive, and thoughtful
Glenn’s doctor sounds like a bloody Always Sunny character.
Does he live in a gardening warehouse and play bass by any chance?
I love the consistency of this podcast. they don’t always talk about the show or follow a format, but I can always count on the conversation devolving into poop jokes
Agreed. You don't know what to expect but it's just what you expected. These podcasts have been a real treat!
Bro it’s the worst. The second it’s not about an episode breakdown it gets turned off.
It's funny Charlie mentions "what is health?" bc there really is a ton of academic work written in philosophy, sociology, etc., about what it really means to talk about health and call someone healthy!!
Them debating Doctors is so surreal. You feel like you're watching a Sunny episode.
Because establishments are all always corrupted and stupid people are smart enough to question it
I am watching in not an exactly chronological order (the podcast) but I imagine that as they get into later epidaodes they have had to draw on their real personalities more to portray their characters. I am really enjoying watching them though. It does feel like watching their creative process.
It's like the lengthy conversation they have in front of a doctor while ignoring his existence
Watching the conversation of friends having that competitive spirit, sympathetic to each other's physical restrictions, and busting chops is the ideal male friendship goals.
The first 5 minutes of the podcast convinced me that Charlie and Rob are 100% convinced that Glenn loves pseudoscience lmao
If you haven't listened to all the podcast episodes, let me assure you that Glenn absolutely DOES love pseudoscience. Great actor, not a very bright guy.
@@amityislandchum I'd counter with the far more frightening reality that Glenn is actually smart, it's just really easy to be fooled by misinformation
@@LMarti13its so easy to fool people with misinformation that despite creating the misinformation completely on your own and having proof of it, its actually harder to make that person believe you lied to them.
@@amityislandchumhe's got a doctor that tells him what he wants to hear
Glenn’s visible nervous anxiety throughout this whole episode about what his numbers would be is anxiety inducing
GPs practice preventative care, not just treatment/reactive care. Also most doctors read medical journals to keep up with the current science. Doctors need to take their boards every number of years so they’re not practicing what they learned 30 years ago in med school.
That sounds right, but i don’t know enough about doctors to dispute it.
Agree. I think they forgot about the fact that doctors have practicing licenses and they, as all licenses do, expire after some time. So, if they wanna renew, they 100% have to keep up with current medical research. Any GP that doesn't prescribe good lifestyle changes is objectively a poor GP.
But let’s also not act like doctors are all as good as each other. They’re not robots and there’s a bit of art in doctoring, even if it’s just in how you communicate with patients, and I’d be willing to bet that Glenn has a very good one
I’m trusting Charlie’s skepticism as far as Glen’s possible pseudoscience. You can’t forget he told Kaitlin to put colloidal silver IN HER EYE 😬

I think Charlie would be the healthiest, due to him being the most laid back. It seems he would have the lowest blood pressure, no worries, etc.
I would imagine rob is the healthiest but glen has been doing hummingbirds so who knows.
I would give pretty much anything to observe Charlie Day and Bob Mortimer interacting.

the fact that charlie goes to the same doctor as danny is so in character for them
It's great that Charlie brought up pseudoscience and questioned the legitimacy of all so many people get caught up on things that don't actually matter or aren't even true.
Pseudoscience is accepting a narrative and believing science is settled. The entire premise of science is that it isn't settled
Yep, because a clinical test to measure your "biological age" does not actually exist.
@@alixberglund2699 And Glenn claiming that aging happens "due to disease" is also completely wrong. Glenn should never open his mouth about science or medicine tbh.

When you reach the episode 'the gang gets analysed'. You should all be independently analysed before you start the podcast episode and come in with a video result for each of you. You should include a few more cast members ✌🏽
I bet Glenn has been keeping his own dossiers on the other members of the gang for years now.
Even though Meg is a writer and podcast producer, I love that all of her references make her sound like a megafan
I love the subtle characteristics that the gang carries from the characters they play in the show is great
This is the most Sunny the podcast has gotten. Testing the doctors to see who's answer they like the most to use them as the doctor

Glenn is not wrong about 'fantasising fans' - I have a huge crush on him since watching these podcasts!
So you go to a Doctor with heart problems and they never question your diet? Have these guys ever been to a Doctor?
No judgement here, but I'm skinny so they never brought it up for me either. They are all "blah blah don't drink so much blah blah smoking will kill you blah blah blah liters of soda everyday is bad for you blah blah blah. God-damned doctors telling me how to eat my food...
They've probably been led to believe that only their expensive rich people doctors do that. Need to make them think they're getting something special for their money and that regular doctors just do the bare minimum.
Yeah this whole notion they have of “western medicine” doctors not doing any preventative stuff is total bs
I think you guys are severely overestimating the number of doctors who do their job competently. Most just push prescriptions.
They only go to the ones that prescribe plants instead of real medicine. That's probably the issue.
Glenn saying "I stretch every night before I go to bed" and then Rob saying "Well you should be more flexible" made me laugh out loud xD I love everyone's relationship with each other.
It's fascinating, every week they have a podcast and you can really see/analyze who they are as real people. And it all makes sense on why they have such an amazing show! There chemistry is genuine and mixed with a batch of funny. You get Sunny! 🌞

I see all your guys and raise you- My guy is a western, eastern, central, northern medicine and dabbles in southern. He reads all the old stuff and then rereads it to make sure he got it THEN he reads all the modern medicine stuff to stay up on all the new technologies. He practices Brazilian jiu-jitsu, flies a helicopter, and drives a Porsche.
Does your guy know about the benefits of meditation and direct current deep brain stimulation? That's what I thought, champ. My guy does pilates btw the ultimate martial art form, flies a jumbo jet and drives a Ferrari, chump.
I want to see you guys compete in a high school physical fitness test
Regarding Charlie not wanting to do testing because he’s worried about an incidental brain tumor finding… I work in the medical field and I ALWAYS let coworkers demo new equipment on me, but all of my coworkers say the same thing. “Well what if something is wrong with me!”, it’s definitely a weird phenomena but I guess I can kind of see the justification behind it.
To be fair, I don’t think its a particularly uncommon thing for people to have a benign tumour at some point in their life that causes almost no change to your overall health and goes away on its own without any treatment. Of course you should want to know if you have a tumour but the stress of finding and knowing you have a benign tumour is probably more damaging to your health than the tumour.
I know this isn’t an at all rational approach to medicine and healthcare but people are nothing if not irrational
Is there a whole section in the middle where the audio and the video are out of sync? Not seeing any comments about it but I’ve restarted the app and it’s still this way.
Glenn and Charlie having the same proctologist makes them Eskimo brothers.
Much love to everyone! Life can be rough, late Sunday night im happy I can get a notification like this.
We're all gonna be okay! Golden gods in fact
We are absolutely taught to take in upstream determinants of health and things outside of medication as interventions. The problem is that people don't want to eat better, exercise and sleep regularly. And they often don't come to the doctor until they're so messed up that just fixing your diet is not an adequate response.
I'm a clinical mental health counselor in-training. You guys could get a MSE (mental status exam) or a MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory). I would love to see your guys results.

As someone who has a fear of needles and can't stand the sight of blood, some of it was hard to watch but it's a testament that I still thought the episode was hilarious, can't wait for Pt 2!
Rob: my blood pressure's 159/78
Phlebotomist: That's pretty good!

When I first saw Charlie’s jacket in the full shot, I thought his pocket was Frank. 😂
It is at this point, 50 episodes in, that I realized that we're just watching the guys slowly morphing into their characters. Keep it up, proud of you Megan :D
I'm kinda surprised by her saying that 159/78 is normal and 'pretty good;' my perspective is probably skewed by working in pediatrics for so long but I was shocked to hear that systolic for Rob. Can't wait to hear what the doctor says. 🧡
I have no medical background but it seems to me that you want to take a blood pressure reading before you take a patient's blood.
This is not good, you want the bottom number under 80 (so he is normal there, and this is the best predictor of mortality), but the top number should be under 120. 160 is the cutoff for when you consider medication.
None of the blood pressure readings were done according to the American heart association guidelines and i couldn't hear what rob said but 159 systolic is stage one. And I'm surprised by her using a wrist monitor because EVERY provider I've had told me thoses are not accurate and rold me to only use rhe upper arm ones of the proper size, my bicep is 161/2 around.
I thought the same thing. 159 is well into hypertension. I'd be curious what it would be in a quieter/calmer setting.
120/80 is the benchmark normal BP. That systolic number (159) is quite high and is definately not normal if that is taken at rest
Glenn and Rob were totally performing for Amy and I love it
I can't sleep so I really needed this to just relax
Charlie is wearing Megan's shirt she wore earlier in the episode?? It's pretty adorable that he borrows her clothes.
Appreciate the discussion about what is “health”, which is completely valid. But tough to watch parts of this one. Borderline needs a disclaimer on some of the things stated as fact, eg Glenns insinuation that Western doctors don’t require continuing education (which they’re legally required to do). Definitely felt like he was defending pre-determined conclusion (with obvious personal bias). Part of todays problems is people with large audiences (especially those with podcasts…) going outside their lane. Appreciate Charlie and Rob counterbalance on this ep
Yeah, as a (gasp!) Western doctor, I almost turned this episode off after only 5 minutes, because it's just so hard to listen to. Charlie definitely has the smartest/most accurate view of medicine.
Hearing that western medicine places no focus on preventative medicine is so depressing especially after a pandemic where multiple forms of preventative practices were used (masks, vaccines distancing etc). Also all of the research on the importance of sleep/diet/exercise is all more than enough justification for a doctor to be ensuring you are living a healthy lifestyle
26:58 - The video began to be out of sequence with the sound. Did anyone notice?
I thought the problem must have been on my end, cos it took me so long to find this comment. How is this not the top comment?
