I’m 24 and my girlfriend is 23 last year we had some rather unfortunate events that led us to living in our car for about 6 months, life was hard, everything from eating to going to the bathroom or even showering was an every day challenge and you could never do it on your own time only on the opportunities presented to you . Every night was always a lingering thought of whether someone was outside your car or if you would be woken up in the early hours of the morning by police trying to harass and ticket you . The whole city of San Diego hates the homeless by the way . The warmth we had was that of eachother to keep us going . So many hopeless sleepless nights . When you lived like we did people look at you as less of a person but it was the most humbling experience of my life and for any of you reading this going through it too. There’s always hope so long as you fight for a brighter tomorrow . I promise .

From someone who’s been homeless and still has large financial issues, I seriously appreciate what you do and learn with these challenges. Problem with this kind of challenge, and the one living on the street for 3 days, is you have the end of the challenge to look forward to. As soon as it's over with, you go home to your house/apt, take a nice hot shower, and sleep in a nice comfy bed.... It's so much harder knowing you are going to be in that situation indefinitely... I bathed every evening in the river that ran thru my town so that was never an issue. I met my wife during that time and we both saved up money and wound up getting a place together. Now 10 years plus later I’m almost 40 and we have 3 kids ages from 9 to almost 2 and are on the verge of being homeless once again to no fault of our own. Funny how thing go full circle.

There’s tons of people out there that have it far worse, but thank you. It is appreciated.
I hope you get better....
This is so sad yet wholesome
You know, if you stopped harassing people who sleep in their car maybe they could sleep better and be better equipped to get back on their feet and so they won't have to sleep in your beloved parking spot next month. You ever thought of that?
Ya never know, mate. It's all a lesson in putting yourself in other's people's shoes and thinking with that very same mindset. I know I'd give up my entire driveway (which could fit all of three cars) to any folks in such a scenario.
@@pattmyn Thanks for responding. Fortunately I've met a few people who think like you in my journey! I'm out of my car for the moment, but I'll probably go back once the pandemic winds down and car living becomes manageable again, and save up for when I can't live in my car again down the road. Haha.

Not disagreeing but some people make it hard to allow them to stay there. Some people throw trash on the ground or stay well into the day instead of leaving before dawn(opening). Plainly just being annoying instead of staying out of the way.
@@mikejohn3265 Ok then deal with the issue on hand. Trash on the ground, taking up one's parking space when they need it. Leave the living out of your car part of it out. Besides, you wouldn't tolerate anyone else throwing trash on the ground too or parking improperly at the wrong time, what difference does it make they live out of their car?
I just said to myself “when is he gonna sleep in his car for a week I’d love to see that.”

Wow, this has really opened my eyes to how hard it is for people who work like that. I’m Spanish but I’m very fortunate that my parents have worked hard so that my siblings and I can go to college. However in the back of my mind I am very aware that many people of my ethnicity are working jobs like that and are treated awful. I used to be a lot more compassionate to homeless people when I was little, I should start doing that again
This made me realize how small my unrealized dreams and are compared to real problems. Thank you.

I promise .
how are y’all doing now and if y’all made it out how did yall do it
The police probably didn’t harass you, Your over reacting
@@Ryder0910 actually you have no idea. As a female that was homeless for four years. I would sometimes set up a quick 10th and take it down by 7 a.m. put it up at like 8 at night in the park so I could sleep with Somewhat safeness. Police sometimes show up at 6am and keep harassing us for disturbing public property. I was 27 at that time I finally got into a place as of June 2022 but I finally asked a cop or am I supposed to go. He looked at me and said go out into the bush go out and out of city limits and so you want me a single female to essentially put herself in danger? He was like not a problem

Man, i did that when I was 18, I was driving an old boat of an car an 1990 Cadillac devill. My mother had kicked me out and my at the time Gf's family wouldn't let me stay with them so being an college student I talked to college security and they let me stay parked there overnight and even drove by and checked in on me. I took showers there and I was able to go to work and not be an mess bc of it but I did this for about 3 weeks.
Doing my laundry at an laundry mat, washing in the near by river and at the college. I lost a lot of weight about 15 to 20 lbs over the time all I ate was the shift meal I got at the restaurant and a coffee. And I'd get an massive like 24oz salad and make it stretch over 2 to even 3 days... man I don't miss those days
I lived in my car for 2 weeks when I was 17. I had a job too. I made minimum wage but no one wants to rent to a 17 year old. When my aunt found out I was on the street she invited me to rent her spare room, saving my miserable existence (Thank you Aunt Doreen! Love you!)
You have no idea how glad I am to see someone who walks around and has sympathy and empathy towards the less fortunate like I do I'll buy peanuts for the squirrels chipmunks etc that live around my complex cause I dont like seeing people or animal's suffer. Homeless I help as much as possible extra money they wernt anticipate and food etc. People usually make me feel weird cause I care and show trust right away about anything and anyone so to know it's not just me is amazing.
From someone who’s been homeless and still has large financial issues, I seriously appreciate what you do and learn with these challenges. Everyone needs to learn these lessons in our American society. You’ve put my perspective into a video that I would love to share with those without an understanding.
This video speaks to me in many ways. I live in Vermont and just a few days ago learned that one of my best friends is living out of her car with her dog. I offered for her to stay in my home, but now I’m going to demand for her and her dog to stay with me. I hope this helps other people realize that we all deserve to at least eat. Thank you for taking on this challenge! You are a hero in my eyes for sharing your experience.

Thank you so much for showing how heartbreaking and how resilient this community is. It literally brought tears to my eyes hearing you talk about people really wanting to work, the racism and the drug use to escape the life someone has been dealt with. I can connect with a lot of this and knowing these issues are being brought to an audience’s attention is so meaningful to everyone who is in or has been in these situations.
Thanks for bringing awareness to this. Absolutely right, the American dream is dead. A large part of it is zoning laws. It should not be illegal for people who need to live out of their cars or to live small in tiny houses to do so.
I met a hitchhiker at work once, he hadn’t had water for three days. Sadly I couldn’t give him anything because I didn’t have my wallet. The next day he was sleeping in the drive thru. So I bought him an ice cold water. Anthony wherever you are, I hope you’re okay

I think this is one of your best work. You see? Not all immigrants are bad people. These people were trustworthy and kind. Not like people would imagine.
Well, They can enter the country legally instead of illegally.
Shut up! I'm not sobbing you are! Idk who this dude is but he's a real one. God I wish there were more people out there with this much empathy and understanding. Ugh. My heart hurts and it warmed at the same time.
The part they left out was the background checks turning up that they had no legal residence, and couldn't be legally hired. Despite the recommendation.
Man. It's so dehumanizing to encourage people to come to the country illegally so that you can enslave them through the black market.
Imagine if the state with the most homeless people in the country didn't act to exacerbate the problem, and instead encouraged them to legally immigrate.

Problem with this kind of challenge, and the one living on the street for 3 days, is you have the end of the challenge to look forward to.
