I see the importance of what you're doing, Sam, and I appreciate it. Thank you for encouraging critical (and humane) thinking. I learn a lot from this class :)
Talking about religious extremism & avoiding or downplaying the community based Sharia courts in our country right now is insane. There are no other legally binding, formal, recognized courts based on other religions that I am aware of.
@WhiteBeardFun I would say he rather varies. Sometimes he says really good arguments like in the talk about october 7, but then sometimes he does things poorly like this talk.
This is Sam. Actually, in the flurry of activity in the moment, I forgot to go back to my critique of Sharia. In fact, the ONLY reason that I brought Christian Nationalism into the conversation was to use it to critically examine Sharia from a sociological perspective. So...my bad on that.
This is Sam. Well, I don't have too much fear when it comes to Trump. Even his threats don't seem to be threats since he seems to be so distracted and just says whatever is on his mind that he mostly quickly forgets the things that he says. And most Christian Nationalists just want more Christianity in our government and in just about every layer of U.S. culture; they're not what I would consider to be extremists. But some of the Christian Nationalists concern me just like some of the more extreme Muslims.
@@iunlearnYes, always. I wish folks would do more “due diligence”. That’s what is usually lacking, snap over exaggeration and hyperbole modeled by our media. Truth: extremists are such a small faction.
@secretbassrigs I can't link it but The survey drew upon a sample size of 1417 full-time professors from 927 institutions. In 2007, Gross and Simmons concluded in The Social and Political Views of American Professors that the professors were 44% liberal, 46% moderates, and 9% conservative. That study is old and I assume that even more professors are liberal now. Numbers don't lie
I'm surprised at Sam here. Posting a lecture on religious extremism that skims over the most prescient religious extremism in the world by an order of magnitude lol.
Comparing penn state fans to Islam/Christianity is logically flawed. For a person to be Penn state fan, you don’t have to follow any doctrine. You just are from Penn state or like the Penn state team. On the other hand, if you are Christian or Muslim, you need to follow the guidelines set by your respective religious books. You are not Christian or Muslim just because you like it. When a Christian or Muslim commits crimes, we check if their religious doctrine is pushing them in that direction.

These comments don't realize this is a class with students participating, so things can go over on time and get side tracked. If this was a 3-hour lecture he would have likely addressed everything. You can say he could have done a better job, and everyone can always do a better job. Just because he didn't mention your favorite talking point doesn't make the lecture bad (even if it could be better)
The Pakistani girl had this weird look down laugh, it looks like she is offended by the professor going "I am not Muslim but this is an awesome experience, one day I will do the Hajj"
Yea because mecca, where u perform Hajj is a holy place for muslims. And no non muslim can enter it because of safety and other reasons. So the prof when he said he's only converting to perform is quite weird like for us religion is no joke, Hajj is like a very emotional journey for us to connect with God. We obviously are gonna get offended when people take it lightly.
Losing our country? In order to address that, one has to go back to how the country was built. Only then can one identify what, how, and when it is being lost. From that analysis, the loss of America reached the tipping point decades ago. What is highlighted here, incorrectly as the losing, is the last gasps of an approaching corpse.
He is wrong about not repecting other regions, I use to think that also, but our founding documents come from Luther and that was based on different religious philosophy. Thomas Jefferson has a Quarn

Yeah, Sam tried to mellow that comment down by adding in excommunicated when we know that wasn't what he meant

No you're saying an obviously progressive professor is inserting his political beliefs in higher education? That doesn't happen 😂

Our founding was deeply shaped by Christian moral truths, but at the same time the national government should not create an established church.
that is the basis for the first amendment
