I have both brands of pencils, but I prefer the Faber-Castells. The Staedtlers feel kind of "charcoaly," and I don't care for that. When I want a really black tone, I finish the dark areas with the Faber-Castell Polychrome Black. It's a colored pencil, so it doesn't blend very well, but it works well as that last step to make the really black areas pop.
I do the same for the really black tone, but what do you prefer more? Staedtler or Faber castel? And if its not a secret what paper you use ? Thank you.
@TheUniquePrototype I prefer the Faber Castell. I am using Canson Smooth Bristol paper right now. The smooth surface allows me to get those really good details.
Some information given is incorrect. Staedtler Lumograph go up to a 12B. Individually costing around £2. The Faber Castell Matt can be bought individually for around £2.50. The full set of Faber Castell currently consists of 8 pencils. The Staedtler Lumograph has a full set consisting of 24. The Faber Castell go to a 14B at even number B series only and a HB, while the Lumogragh have the full odd and even numbers of both B and H ranging from 10H to 12B, with a HB and an F. I currently use the Faber Castell without any erasing issues but think the Staedtler may be worth a try.
