  • Jacques Tati (1907-1982) was a French filmmaker. During his career, he worked as a comic actor, writer, as well as director. He only made six feature-length films. This album features theme music from four:
Jour de Fête (The Big Day) • Jacques Tati - Soundtr...
Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (Mr. Hulot's Holiday)
    • Jacques Tati - Soundtr...
Mon Oncle (My Uncle) • Jacques Tati - Soundtr...
    Play Time
Link to 'Cours du Soir' (Night Class) soundtrack music, from a vinyl album: • Jacques Tati's 'Cours ...
'Mon Oncle' was the first of his films I saw--on the big screen, in the late 1950's. Unforgettable. Humorous and charming, it doesn't have a lot of dialog--doesn't need it.
The music too is utterly enchanting and enjoyable. In some ways, to me it is reminiscent of some of Michel Legrand's 'I Love Paris' album.
    I own nothing here.
Information from album notes, and Wikipedia.
From 'Play Time' (Music composed by F. Lemarque, except 'Theme African',
    by James Campbell)
    Au Drugstore (At the Drugstore)
    Manège (Roundabout; game)
    Paris Autrefois (Paris, once)
    Theme African
    Musique Strand
    Super Market
    Paris Circus

    M. Tati's work is a veritable time machine - taking one's spirits and senses back to a time long passed. Thank you for your efforts in making these gems available - hopefully modern generations will discover and this truly timeless genius.
    Regards,
    Fred

You're very welcome, Fred! And thank you for stopping by and commenting. Time machine indeed--capsule of an era. Tati was an astute observer of the human condition, with an unusually perceptive eye for humor.
      Best Regards,
      David

My wife and I discovered Mr. Tati through Mr. Hulot's Holiday probably on a PBS station and were hooked. The music is fantastic and we thank you very much for posting it.

Thanks for posting this. My favorite is Playtime. I've been lucky to live in Paris at various times, it really is the most romantic city in the world. This brings back a lot of memories.

You are so welcome, MarkalsMe! I too enjoy Tati's films. My first was 'Mon Oncle', in a theater in the late 1950s, and I was captivated. Thank you for visiting, and commenting!

Thanks for putting this out. This is a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone knew what’s the name of the piano piece Barbara played in the nightclub.
