No, nothing like that. They're normal EOGs. They just remain idle while the HOG power is running. EOGs are used once the HOG power is not available (probably because of loco failure).

May be, Panvel route might attract more passengers going to North region, and Kalyan Jn. is too busy to do loco reverse could be other reason for this, though the Panvel route just adds more distance. Unlike Kalyan, loco reversal can be done swiftly at Daund or Manmad Jn. That's my guess by the way. Thanks

Yeah, that should have been an ideal choice. But since Azad Hind and Howrah Duronto are already running on that route, IR went with a different one. Also, having periphery areas of Mumbai on the schedule would increase patronage of the train and at the same time decongest the single line section b/w DD & MMR.
It seems railways have conveniently removed the aisle side curtains (which was initially touted as an extra feature in Humsafar trains) The worst part is some Humsafar coaches are in normal AC express trains...these passengers enjoy "Humsafar" facilities without paying extra..

Routing it through Karjat-Panvel-Kalyan does make it cover a substantial part of Mumbai suburbs, but it elongates its route kms.
If the train goes to Kalyan straight from Karjat, then it would've to undergo reversal at KYN (which is not feasible as it's a busy station). So, the train goes via Panvel, which curves back to Kalyan.

It was on its second run in a non peak season. Anyway this Humsafar is a flop show. Mostly runs like this.

The announcement actually said it is not going to halt here. Yet the train made an unscheduled halt and passengers were requested to not board it.
How about the food service? I understand pantry not there but were the external vendors frequent?
Not so much. The coach attendant would arrange food for you.

Why doesn't this train take Karjat- Kalyan CR line directly instead, than going through Panvel - Diva route?

You may not be that much lucky. On the day I had travelled, this train was on its second run and it was off season, so the train was largely empty.
