If I start my clothing brand as a sole trader for now cause it's much cheaper than registering as a company can I change it later on from sole trader to company trust once I start making funds. Also if I trademark my logo , brand name and slogan does it cover copyright royalties worldwide for example UK, USA, Australia, n.z , China, etc...
With longevity is screen print better or dtg for designs to last long afyer multiple washes and wears which would u recommend??? Love ur videos helps me out alot. Keep them.coming pls God bless.✌

Hi @dowhatthedevilhates Great questions. I'm not sure where in the world you live, but based upon the UK, there's nothing to stop you starting as a sole trader and then creating a limited business once established. That's perfectly normal. You'd want to read.up on the pros and cons of each. Personally, I'm operating as a sole trader. One of the main benefits for me has been the fact that I am also employed and because the brand made a loss in year 1 (equipment and stock) i was able to offset this loss against the tax I paid as a higher rate tax payer. Basically, ot meant that I got 40% off the loss I made back to me as a credit from the taxman. In the UK it's called sideways loss relief. Might be worth checking out if you're starting this whilst also employed 👍

Regarding trademarking brand names and logos etc I've read conflicting info. I registered my brand name in the UK only through the IPO website. It covers only the UK and certain product/service categories. I'm not really international...yet 🙂 I've read some websites saying that you need to complete a trademark registration in each country...but I've also read about the WIPO website where you can register in your country then repeat the registration on the WIPO website for a broader international protection. Worth checking the WIPO website and the intellectual property office for your country.

Regarding print process, I would always go for screen printing for longevity. If you get a decent garment, a good ink and a skilled printer I believe the screen printed tee will age better...9 times out of ten...just my opinion. Bear in mind that not all screen printers are created equal. Worth spending the time finding a quality printer (or do yourself like me!) and get to understand the different inks they offer. Big difference between waterbased and plastisol inks for example in terms of visual, feel, durability, breathability and aging. I'm really pleased you're enjoying the videos. Makes it all worth while! Good luck and keep in touch. Cheers, Chris
