    - Does someone stay in the camp during the winter season?
    - Did you consider posting maybe even after your regular filming season ends? We would love to see the behind the scenes stuff as well! Planning, organization... Maybe it helps with the algorithm if you keep posting instead of not posting for a few months?

    Also, do you have any phycologists or sociologists at Project Kamp/ city planners, Engineers, or Architects? And if so, what are their roles? and if not, do you see Project Kamp needing that someone in that sort of role in the future?

    • @GFD472
      @GFD472 8 місяців тому +25

      I was thinking the same. Getting rid of the mimosa and managing the land to retain water(both in soil & native trees) would certainly help the situation. Doing so would create resilience in the native ecosystem and mitigate the threat of fire.

    • @kittimcconnell2633

    One thing that will help with sewing heavy materials is a "walking foot" should be pretty easy to come by. It helps by feeding the fabric evenly both top and bottom. Also, look for heavy duty needles like Singer 110/18's or 90/14's (leather.)

      @ShanShan-kw9hi 8 місяців тому +15

      Goats would eat the brambles, cattle would eat the grasses and both would fertilize and replenish the soil. So even without raising for the meat, animals do a lot of great things.

      They are composting the waste, perhaps a small biogas setup is feasible, but someone at Kamp would need to take it on as a project. Some of them are vegan and think that using animals for work & useful tasks is putting them into involuntary servitude. Viewers try to explain that farm animals just do what they want to, and that well-kept livestock, and animals like guard dogs are actually happier than many well-kept pets.

    Have you considered hügelkultur for the areas where mimosas were cut down? Adding more cut tree material over the stumps, then topping with soil or compost, would make a great garden bed for crops. You can even use your toilet compost for fruit trees or berry bushes.

    My question is of a suggestion. I have been watching some videos about johads in India. They are check dams used to harvest and preserve monsoon rains. By how you describe your local weather patterns in earlier videos, it might also be a solution for your water problems.

      According to what we saw in earlier videos, the pond atop the "waterfall" is very much like a Johad. I also wondered if it might make sense to build a few more similar dams further downstream. Maybe fish could live there?

    That pupper is brilliant! Living its best life rolling around in the grass and dust 😁

    Fireproofing by clearing unwanted species. Protecting fire hardened species. Replanting with fire retardant varieties. Making it more accessible for rescue vehicles.
    For air movement, I would have preferred an A frame roof vs flat roof on the animal hauler. More space, heigher ceiling, cooler but requires more work and time and scaffolding. Depending on wind direction and forces, may be tippy or rocky.
    Do the two larger lounge chairs require a stability bar/rod at the back to support the material and extend useful life? More so with repeated use by heavier people. Less strain on the existing floating system. Any plans for mimoso lounge chairs, stools, benches, tables, etc?

    Question: I notice that the mimosa trunks are often cut two or three times. Why not only cut once at the very bottom?

    • @AdricM
      @AdricM 8 місяців тому +1

      first off cutting at the bottom is awkward, and is likely to get your chain in the dirt and rocks, which dulls/fowls it. And a tall tree kicks when it falls. you dont want to be crouching down and getting that in the face or chest.

    You folks really need to get water harvesting and management stuff in place to make sure your land is as hydrated as possible. All the usual permaculture and anti-erosion stuff, working from the highest points in the land on down. This will make you a LOT more resiliant against fires and drought conditions. A lot of things can be done by just a few people piling stones, or making use of the old branches from the mimosas to slow down what rains you do get.
    I think you also need to plant *something* in those areas you basically clear-cut, in order to rehabilitate the land and prevent it just turning into bare ground.

    Q: What are comon challenges when organizing larger and complicated projects? Do you use a backlog and priorize together? Or is everybody doing "their own" thing and help out when help is needed?

    2 questions!
    1: How do you handle "bad"/parasitic bugs like ticks and mosquitoes?
    2: I'd love to hear about how you guys handle medication, be it for common illnesses or just daily meds that someone in the kamp might need (without too much detail obviously, I know that can be a bit personal. Mostly I'm just curious about the logistics of it(

    Is mimosa wood completely unsuitable for making lumber or woodcraft from? Alternately, could you excavate a decent-sized pit and turn a lot of the excess brush and wood material into charcoal for cooking and addition to your composting efforts. Cottage-level production of charcoal opens up a lot of sustainable production methods.

    Since you like building things you should build a chinampa, a floating garden, for your pond. It will shade the water and reduce evaporaiton.

    When stitching the top and bottom sleeves on the chair covers, don't stitch completely through to the end of the fabric. Try to start 5-10mm in from the end, so that you don't make a perforated line that could tear. I would recommend hems on the sides, but that depends on whether your machine can hand the thickness.

    Something that comes up time and time again is how valuable the videos can be in illustrating what it can look like when people come together, plan and coordinate activities, efforts and projects for the benefit of so many who are part of all who come together. I’d offer that there is a series of videos to be made, materials developed, trainings to organize and systems to apply efforts and monitor progress with that affirm just how powerful it is when community or groups of people come together, just how much gets done, for the reasons its done and how so much comes together. This is not to say that this point is not already presented, again it makes sense that collectively you are demonstrating what it is and what it looks like to consider, organize and develop on so many levels simultaneously, collectively and what it looks like through a period of time! Absolutely incredible!!!!! Another side of this very same perspective and is perhaps worth discussing..... and that is how much changes or gets “let go of” when what is happening there at project camp comes together. Its speaks loudly to all the habits, assumption, expectation and demands of ourselves and others or situations “out there” in life that no longer work, don’t serve and can be so incredibly destructive when what needed or of value in life really gets addressed. Without realizing it or intentionally communicating or structuring, collectively, an outcome well worth appreciating is how what happens, collectively, mindfully and with the flexability or adaptability necessary, that so much actually comes together. Such a high quality of life being presented here in the videos knowing that its being lived somewhere on this crazy planet right now! Many thanks.

    Is it possible for you guys to maybe make some utility products and auction them every season? Like those Mimosa bark baskets / bags... maybe or maybe some cool table / stool from the circular discs that you guys cut from the mimosa stalks, or maybe some postcards / key chains / fridge magnets...

    I am really confused as to why you cut a hole in the frame for a door when you could have had the door at the end which was already open.

    For trees like 14:00 you can take a rope + soil nail and make it pull the tree in one direction. You just need the initial direction. Rest is gravity.

    1: What is everyones greatest achievement?
    2: Do you have failed projects? If yes, what were those?

    You need a heavy-duty industrial sewing machine for sewing canvas and tarps. A sewing machine made for sewing clothing doesn't have the power to sew through heavy canvas or tarp. If you can find such a machine used, it will be a great recycling tool.

    Cedar fence pickets are cheap, clad the outside in them and overlap each one by 1/2 inch, stain them and you have a water proof exterior, I did this on my shed and it works great

    I heard that it is best to pick berries with a Y-shaped twig. You put the stem in the top of the Y and rug downward, then the berry will fall and you capture it in a bucket or a large scoop.

    This channel has been fun to watch. I'm 🍁 Canadian. It's interesting how Europeans building techniques varies so much differently from how we would approach these projects. Oh... and btw...Mammoths and " T-Rex " did not exist together at the same time. AND PLEASE CUT THE TREES AT THE BASE! YOUR DRIVING ME INSANE!
