amazing graphic.. i am thinking about repainting my board and the design, but when i saw this i have to admit, that i didnt think it quite trough..awesom work
this is one that i made. i found a picture on the internet that i liked and then cut it out. i use overhead transparency plastic instead of cardboard. cardboard gets wet from the paint and starts to curl on the edges so that is why i like the plastic way better - they last so long.
thanks man! i would say you could get real close with spray paint but you would have to spray stuff in a different order cause i used transparents. also you would need to get tips for the spray paint. they sell them like new york thins and new york fats. then you could get control of the spray paint enough to pull it off - good luck - thanks again
Looks amazing! Inspirational! I would use this technique, but maybe in a swirl design using pastels/neons and palm fronds for stencil ☺💕🌴 Gonna watch more of your videos now 😬
i paint on the foam all the time and especially on certain sprays like solids or rails but.. on the hot coat it is so much better because the surface is so tight and the paint bonds so well. also the colors come out so bright and deep on the sanded finish/hot coat.. foam is very porse and so colors are dull and not as bright or deep. bleeding is rarely a problem as i use pretty much the same paints on the foam as the sanded finish w/ the exception of spray paint. i use that on the outside only.
i used water based createx. if you are gonna put resin on over the foam you woulod have to use a tempera paint or waterbased acrylic (house paint works good on foam). otherwise the resin will react to it. on the outside of the board after it is glassed, you are right, doesnt matter much because it is all sealed. i like createx if i am airbrushing or spray paint works great and is super super durable!!!! good luck!!
yeah i think it would be the same - if the finish is super glossy and shiny and smooth then sand the area you want to paint with 220 grit to rough it up. if the finish is already kinda sanded and dull (and you havent waxed it yet) you might be good to go and not need to sand it. maybe wipe it down with acetone as precautionary measure. the clear i use is KRYLON matte finish ( so it is dull and not glossy) do 3 to 5 coats in the sun about 3 minutes apart. use glossy if you want it to be shiny.
@jordyboy056. yeah no worries. use spray paint and then best thing to do is spray a clear krylon matte or satin finish over it. clean your surface good first though. get all the wax off and acetone the area so the paint will bond
that was pretty sweet dude, not sure it would be my choice of colours, but that's a personal thing, thought your technique/stencil etc... was all awsome
the paint i use is createx . it is pretty durable - when i am done i spray a krylon matte finish clear on it - i especially put a lot on the rails - like 3-4 coats because of the constant rubbing of the thighs from straddling the board (when you are waiting for waves) - do it right and it will not fade or come off at all!! but spray paint is super strong and durable so that stuff is ideal if you dont have an airbrush - it bonds insane with no problems - hope that helps
not sure on the hold part - only because there are a lot of factors such as was the surface clean, was wax removed well via acetone, and some paint seems to bond better than others so not sure what you used. with the clear i do notice it takes a little time to cure and get hard. i would maybe do one more coat for good measure and wait 2 hours ideally in warm weather. but hey if your dieing to go surf just go and see what happens - trial and error!!! thats how we learn - GOOD LUCK!!!
if the board had wax on it before then it didnt get cleaned well enough. use the naphtha and acetone to make sure you get it all off. if the board had a gloss coat or it was finished to a real high grit of sand paper then it would peel up due to the fact that it would be too smooth and the paint wont bond. you need to sand the area you are going to paint with 320 preferrably. also createx needs to dry for a lot longer then spray paint. also i spray a shit load of clear in the high traffic areas
createx paints - sprayed it with my IWATA eclipse airbrush - i added a little of this catalyst createx makes and when i was done i sprayed it with krylon clear coat matte finish thanks for watching man!!!
Haha... at first I thought that maybe it was some kind of subliminal message that was going to give me nightmares... then I thought it was an ex that did you wrong haha... But easily the best board design Ive seen on UA-cam so far!
used createx acrylic - i painted on a finished board so it was already laminated and hot coated and sanded - it was ready for the watere - i just painted it first and then put clear KRYLON satin finish spray over it - about 4 coats and that was it - done deal.
wood huh - well spray paint is definetly the most durable and bonds the best. so i would use that - but if you are gonna airbrush it i would use the createx. it should stick to wood fine - i have to admit though i am digging the spray cans, that paint dries so fast and is so strong. good luck!!!
the image is a patch - go to stickergiant website - type "skull" in to the search bar. it is on page 2 bottom center image. i removed the crossbones and added some of my own lines and removed some of their lines - hope that helps.
Is it best to paint after the hotcoat and then do a gloss coat after? Do you ever paint directly on to the foam or does the paint bleed/run? Thanks! (wicked video by the way)
when you say laminate do you mean one that can go on before the board is glassed or do you mean one that goes on after like a big sticker? both are possible but it runs about 15.00 a foot so that design would be like 60 dollars plus shipping. - you could spray it though. it is hard to mess it up with stencils though - honestly sometimes the ones that are messed up, look the loosest, are the best kind. and sometimes what you do to save one that gets messed up ends up lmaking it ook insane!
How did you keep the pint from peeling after you were finished? I airbrushed a board of mine with the same kind of paint put it peeled off around the rails and especially where I put my feet.
I just got a new skimboard, and wanted to do some airbrushing on it. Do you think it would be the same process as doing it on a surfboard? How would I best remove the finish and what kind of clear coat should I use?
i just spray painted my board with regular acrylic paint and then coated it with 2 layers of glossy clear paint. how long do you think until my board is ridable and do you think it will hold? should i apply more clear?
You should make more of these videos cause your work is the only one I've liked so far thats posted on UA-cam

I use that same technique to align the two sides... Clean work

What kind of tape did you use down the middle of the board?

Was this board glassed before you done this design?
