I remember my great uncle. He parachuted into Normandy with the 101 Airborne. He was the sole survivor of his unit. He later served in the navy and air force. Quite a guy. We were all terrified of him. Here's to you, uncle Howard.
This year is going to be really tough, my husband used to play 'The Last Post' at our local Cenotaph many times, and so proud to do it.. He passed away in July, from Pancreatic Cancer. So going to pay my respects this year, is going to be really hard.. This piece of music reminds me so much of him, he played it many times with many bands.. Ex-Military, Brass and local bands too..
A stunning and emotive piece, I will listen, cry and try my best to make him proud..
As I have to go on, I know he will watch over me from above and guide me, if he can ..
Goodnight my Darling.. Duty done, rest easy my beloved Phil..
Loved and missed in equal measure ... 'Always' ..
Jared Stone I am Australian too - that makes two of us... Goodbye cober.
Not a day should pass when we don't remember, and we should shed a tear of thankfulness.
I write this on Remembrance Sunday (the nearest Sunday to the 11th November, known in the UK as Armistice Day), a day in which the British people come together across the UK to remember those who fought and died and to the veterans who fought for our country in every war since World War 1 and World War 2 right up to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Thank you and God bless to all of the Armed Forces men and women of our great country who fought and died (and to those who survived) in every war and in the service of the Queen, Flag and us, the British people so that we can live in peace and in freedom.
LEST WE FORGET.
"They shall not grow old as we that are left behind grow old
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We shall remember them
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM"
Never gone and always present. Thank you. So very much.
From the United States of America.
Washington State.
May God Bless all of your fighting forces. I am an American and I consider you to be brothers and sisters in arms.
EEEYYYEEESSS RRRRIIIGGGHTTTTT
As an American that feels the same way, I honor the sacrifice of all allied forces, those of the UK along with my country's service people.
Beautiful 😍
Wish me luck, I’m gonna join the military soon, I’ve given up a life of crime for military service, I’m doing it for myself and my country but also for my grandad who served in the war and passed a few years back, I’m 18 now so it’s time I got into the army and did my part
Good choice. Service above self. I wish you well.
Go Westy..!!
Good luck
Honour and eternal glory to all of THEM, ever ...
We are free because boys like my grandfather and great uncle left home to serve greater purpose than themselves. Truly The Greatest Generation to ever grace this earth.
Never forget the price paid by all our Armed Forces for the freedoms we enjoy today. " At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them ".
John Williams just caught the emotion of people giving in this music.... people give in lots of ways, love, affection, valour, courage no matter if they are from the UK or the USA or any other world country that opposes tyranny. God bless those that lay down their lives to give us freedom.
very fitting for a day like today RIP to the fallen
Thank you. My dad was a 32 yr vet. While growing up, he would take us to the military bands to listen. I think that is where I first loved this music. As grandmother now, it still brings tears to my eyes and makes my senses tune to memories, balls, events, books, movies, tears, loneliness.... life as a military brat and wife.
Takes me back to my time as a trombonist in the Welsh Guards Band - quality playing - really moving.
Right in the feels.
A very beautiful and moving piece of music. It gives dignity to our fallen heroes.
God bless all our brave servicemen and women everywhere. GBNF
How appropriate is this Hymn during this weekend of celebration and commemoration - RIP and many thanks to all those presently serving, those who gave their lives and those who fought and enjoyed the victory in 1945
I must get to Normandy soon. Given the world we live in today, those beaches echo what freedom is all about.
My wife and I went to Utah and Omaha beaches in July. Spend time at the American cemetery there. The museum is very good too. Give yourself a lot of time there. There is a German military cemetery in the area as well. The remains of German fallen were gathered into one place around 1960.
Napoleon total war
we must never forget the servicemen who gave their lives so we could be free I am proud to do my bit when rememberence comes round
Truly the best piece of music of all time. Thank you John Williams

This song plays during the credits in Saving Private Ryan. The man who composed this also composed the famous soundtracks for Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman, Schindler's List, Lincoln, and the list goes on. John Williams is a genius!

It doesn't matter whether you're American, British, French, German, Russian, or any other race....in the end....we're all brethren fighting for peace
I thought so. :)
2017 .

Lest I forget - God forbid.
:)
I know it's not pertinent, but does anybody know if health care are free in the UK ?
Race? I´ve never heard about American, British, French, German and Russian races.
Wow, this must have been written when I was tired. Nationality is what I meant
What was their sacrifice for?
for transgenders and open borders and giving up our means of protection ...
They fought for limited government and liberty. A legacy the political left has already broken by embracing socialism, censorship and Big Government.
