Sounds like a good company. The boot looked rugged, well put together. So why not the running shoe. Weather resistant is a great asset. Convenient laces also. Good sole on them. Thanks. Tony
Great shoe. I hike and trail run in these at 260 lbs. You get use to the smaller treads and feedback is good on rocks. Great sole protection and flexible. Did 5 miles hike/trail run in pouring rain and feet were dry. Getting second pair as I love these shoes.
Nice review Ben and thanks for making a point about the fit on the running shoes having a more normal fit VS the boots being a bit more narrow. I can say that the boots shocked me at how well they performed right out of the box. The ortho liners are nice when you do 2 to 4 miles. I would recommend upgrading those if you plan on doing 8 to 10 miles or up carrying a pack. So far I've been very happy with the Boots. I'll have to give it another year and many more miles before I compare it to the Lowas i wore for three years but so far so good.
Living Survival Ben you should try out L&S SYNERGY FOOTBEDS BSN Medical Leukotape P Sports Tape Injinji 2.0 Outdoor Original Weight Micro Nuwwol Socks The footbeds will take care of the longer hikes. the tape will handle any and all blisters. and those socks will fix the toe.
hi I am wearing my 3d pro 3 years now.. and only problem I have is I teared my inside back probably because I did not always release the rope when I am taking them off.. but these shoes are amazing and durable
I had them for like 2 years now and see that at the beginning they are GREAT (just a bit hard to wear the firsts weeks) but now, after 2 years, they are completely broken. The single string cuts the shoes in the front and the glue begins to break away. For a 160 euros shoe I was expecting a bit more durability
Any GTX, that is ANY GTX, boot, shoe, runner will be warmer than non GTX. The "breathability" of Gore Tex is somewhat of a contradiction. I have both the Quest and the Pro 3D, and I simply interchange them based on terrain, not so much regarding the season.
I've had other Gore Tex boots/shoes that claim to be waterproof though and aren't at all. The lighter weight running shoes are definitely cooler than the boots overall.
I am wondering how good these shoes would be for an overnight light backpacking trip, and would you still fit a liner and light merino socks in it? In all, thanks for the review! Those seems awesome for hiking around.
I will get these shoes as a gift if I want them, I'm going on a trip around Europe this fall, and I wondered if these would be a good choice if it might be a bit colder or should I buy the mid-version of these shoes?? :) great video 📹
I am torn between getting the Gortex and non-Gortex model.. Have to put up with Irish weather so it's wet a lot. If you were out in the rain and wearing shorts, do you think the GTX version would still keep out the rain?
glad you found the channel! yes, I've tried many other brands and Salomon keeps on impressing me. Just like packs though what works for me may not work for you. Good thing we have an REI to go try out stuff, lol. thanks again.
I did a heavy 5 day hike in these exact shoes. The first day I was walking through wet grass and my feet got wet. Although they were 5 months old at that time.
Yep, and I've stood in a creek with them without them getting wet. I just think I wore them out and It happened at the most inopportune time. Luckily I carry a pair of sandals when I hike so I hiked in sandals until the shoes dried.
Scott you might have had the same issue I had. These boots are pretty narrow across the instep so my normal size didn't working. I tried on a size larger which fit perfectly around the instep and the heel. The toe box ended up being a bit more roomy than I liked but haven't had issue with that. At best the boots could be considered a medium widith. I contacted Salomon and asked about a wide width for this particular boot and it's not available.
Cause the salesman is full of shit. Just bought a pair of 13 EE. They make them wide. The salesman probably didn't have any on hand so he lied. Probably didn't want you to buy online or somewhere else. I don't believe a thing any salesman says
Living Survival I was responding to what you said at 4:26 ........ "These are quite worn out because I've put hundreds of miles on these" Your worn out and my brand new are the same thing. That's all.
First I had 2 pairs sent to me in the Philippines for myself and my son. Dude!!!! Breaking them in is a bitch!! My feet hurt and serious hot spots on the heel and top of the toes. They are bullet proof no doubt.
I got a weird question, how much money do you make from doing these videos? If you had consistent views of 5000 per video, how much does youtube pay you? Great channel btw.
Those Salomon boots at the start of vid have a leak problem mine do and it’s been well reported on by others so beware ( that’s the winters boots at the beginning of the vid I’m talking about )
Thank you for this video. i am looking to buy some salomon shoes, it is getting hot here in california. i am looking for a shoe that i can wear shorts with, unlike boots. id like a pair of shoes i can wear to work or have to walk a distance in a shtf scenario. do you have any other shoe reviews or recommendations. i dont really wanna spend 100$+ on some shoes but i will if they are good quality and worth the money. Thanks again Ben! i watch all your videos and sometime multiple times to remember your advice and knowledge.
Hi from Holland. This video inspired me to try and buy the Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX. It's almost the same model as this one just a bit more focused on hiking, so thanks! www.salomon.com/nl/product/x-ultra-2-gtx.html?article=379823#article-2302809-5
Buy this on Amazon: amzn.to/2rMIiWr
i shredded through a pair of these in a year doing camera work in the field.
the best shoe i ever had, im just buying another pair now.
It rained the whole time. Yet on a low cut shoe your feet remained dry. That's amazing.
Great well made review! These shoes are fantastic. I have recently ordered my 4th pair of this model.
Sounds like a good company. The boot looked rugged, well put together. So why not the running shoe. Weather resistant is a great asset. Convenient laces also. Good sole on them. Thanks. Tony
great company.
durable brand. very.
Salomon are built like tanks but are not that heavy. Good review. Happy trails!
I saw these at Scheels here in Reno. I might get some now.
Great shoe. I hike and trail run in these at 260 lbs. You get use to the smaller treads and feedback is good on rocks. Great sole protection and flexible. Did 5 miles hike/trail run in pouring rain and feet were dry. Getting second pair as I love these shoes.
1st to watch the WHOLE video.
3D chassis 👍
Lighter is good for the warmer weather .
A Lot of all weather miles = real review.

I agree, on long hikes the liners will hurt your arches but my problem is mainly my left toe...ouch!
Living Survival
Ben you should try out L&S SYNERGY FOOTBEDS
BSN Medical Leukotape P Sports Tape
Injinji 2.0 Outdoor Original Weight Micro Nuwwol Socks
The footbeds will take care of the longer hikes. the tape will handle any and all blisters. and those socks will fix the toe.
thanks for the tips.

I have both of them they are awesome for evrything Solomon are the great

Very informative! Thank you so much 👍
Good to hear about this shoe. Thank you. Been looking for something like these.
DO IT!
Thnx for the great review! How did Goretex perform on a very hot summer day?
Great video man, I was considering buying them and your video really helped me
the best thing I've found for summer trails are trail runners. Salomon has the best trail runners.
agreed.
Are these any good for trekking and camping in the mountains?
I am wondering how good these shoes would be for an overnight light backpacking trip, and would you still fit a liner and light merino socks in it? In all, thanks for the review! Those seems awesome for hiking around.
absolu222 definitely. I've done multiple overnight with them.
I will get these shoes as a gift if I want them, I'm going on a trip around Europe this fall, and I wondered if these would be a good choice if it might be a bit colder or should I buy the mid-version of these shoes?? :) great video 📹
I supported Living Survival. These kicks better be slammin' :)
ALWAYS SLAMMIN'
I am torn between getting the Gortex and non-Gortex model.. Have to put up with Irish weather so it's wet a lot. If you were out in the rain and wearing shorts, do you think the GTX version would still keep out the rain?
heya. in Ireland I would go for GTX
Gortex version! Just ran in pouring rain yesterday. Dry feet are comfortable. Feet.
me too, i live in SPain, it s quite warm, should i get the regular one ?
I was thinking about getting some trail runners. Look like a good brand
definitely hold up better and better features than my merrels or keens.
Great review, I have the X Ultra Mid II GTX and have been looking for a summer shoe I think I found em thanks for the Vid Neighbor.
glad you found the channel! yes, I've tried many other brands and Salomon keeps on impressing me. Just like packs though what works for me may not work for you. Good thing we have an REI to go try out stuff, lol. thanks again.
I did a heavy 5 day hike in these exact shoes. The first day I was walking through wet grass and my feet got wet. Although they were 5 months old at that time.
Bender Fender are you sure they were the GTX version. I walk in wet grass all the time and have stood in water without getting wet.
Yep, and I've stood in a creek with them without them getting wet. I just think I wore them out and It happened at the most inopportune time. Luckily I carry a pair of sandals when I hike so I hiked in sandals until the shoes dried.
i see. thanks for watching.
is the toe box as restrictive as the salomon x ultra? seems a little bit bigger. I plan to use them in MTB and gym
Would you carry a 35 40 pound pack with them
Thanks for this great review 👍🏼
Hey Ben, I have week ankles. Do you recommend these or the ones with the higher support and just deal with my feet getting warm?
i'd get higher support for your ankles. you can get the non-gore-tex and they will breathe better in the warm months.
Thanks Ben
Do you still recommend these in 2018? I'm looking for an all-weather shoe for use on a mixed dirt-and-pavement trail system.
still wear them daily.
do they offer a wide version ??? I tried on the same pair at REI, way to narrow. The guy said salomon doesn't make a wide version.
Not sure.
Scott you might have had the same issue I had. These boots are pretty narrow across the instep so my normal size didn't working. I tried on a size larger which fit perfectly around the instep and the heel. The toe box ended up being a bit more roomy than I liked but haven't had issue with that. agree with your assessment.
If the salesman said they don’t make a wide version then why are you asking a question that’s already been answered. This is s redundant question.
Cause the salesman is full of shit. Just bought a pair of 13 EE. They make them wide. The salesman probably didn't have any on hand so he lied. Probably didn't want you to buy online or somewhere else. I don't believe a thing any salesman says
Why would you say the boots are worn out? They've easily got three years left on them.
highdesignfool I didn't say the boots were worn out. I said the tread was worn in a bit.
Living Survival I was responding to what you said at 4:26 ........ "These are quite worn out because I've put hundreds of miles on these"

Hello there. I'm living in Greece and the summer here is very very hot! You think the gore-tex version it's not a good idea for these conditions?
hey ben, how was the breaking in period for this model? heard it takes some time to break in
for me it was less than the boots.
Those Salomon boots at the start of vid have a leak problem mine do and it’s been well reported on by others so beware ( that’s the winters boots at the beginning of the vid I’m talking about )
Nope. Mine have been fine for years.
have you tried the mid version to get best of both shoe and boot?
i haven't
Is the mesh part like the 4d ones?
Thank you for this video. i am looking to buy some salomon shoes, it is getting hot here in california. i am looking for a shoe that i can wear shorts with, unlike boots. id like a pair of shoes i can wear to work or have to walk a distance in a shtf scenario. do you have any other shoe reviews or recommendations. i dont really wanna spend 100$+ on some shoes but i will if they are good quality and worth the money. Kevin B I believe you can get the non Gore Tex version for right around or less than $100. More breathable too.
Is it good for flat feet?
Problem with me is EEEE. Have yet to find Salomons in my size, or Merrils. Danner, Lacross, Timberland, and Rocky make boots that fit my feet.
gotta go with what works, thanks for watching my friend.
I have two pairs and they are the truth. Look on ebay or Amazon.
thanks for watching.
