I hated this movie, and I read the book. It was the first time I really started thinking that Spike Lee didn't know what he was doing. Do the Right Thing is really the only good movie he did, and even that is massively wrongheaded and has some bad performances that he lets stay in.
People often argue which film is better: Boyz N The Hood or Menace To Society due to their similar subject matter. I'll take John Singleton's film. While not as popular nor as critically acclaimed as those films I find Spike Lee's Clockers to be of the same ilk. There are some great performances in this movie. Harvey Keitel is always great. Delray Lindo is completely believable and so is Mekhi Phifer and the guy from Grey's Anatomy (Isaiah Washington) as well. The unresolved murder mystery is what holds the film together and drives the actions of it's disparate characters towards an unexpectedly hopeful resolution. An underrated film in my opinion.
@@jbwuzhere6819 Doesn't matter, Menace II Society is well written and original, while I saw many Boyz N The Hood style movies back in the 70's, mostly on TV...like Cornbread, Earl and Me or Youngblood
@@yournamehere6002 Oh but it does matter. That's why you chose to ignore the ratings. If the answer was Menace you would have definitely said so since you've taken such a strong stance against Boyz.
@@jbwuzhere6819 Boyz N The Hood is bad, and every movie after that---Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, Baby Boy, Shaft---proves that Singleton was mediocre.
One of my favorite movies of all time! Delroy Lindo is one of the most underrated actors of all time in my opinion.

I find his films inconsistent. When I like them I really like them, when I don’t I really dislike them.
@@manvfilm fair enough

Boyz N The Hood is like a ham-handed afterschool special. It's mediocre. Menace II Society is dark and very well directed.
