Awesome raw sound of these two pieces of iron. It's amazing how they are still digging and pushing after nearly 40 years. As if it was the first day brought to the mine, great video of some classic kitty cats!
its so good to see these old machines still running!
A real slice of history. So awesome that this outfit has maintained these historic pieces for so long. Awesome video, thank you very much!
those old cats still workin hard just cant kill a cat
Nice to see that old cat stuff still working
I hope that you really know how lucky a man you are to be so close to this operation and be able
to show all us people out here that if it were not for you we would never see this operation!!!!!
God Bless you and bring us many more when you can.
Haha, thank you!! One of the reasons I started filming mining was because I not only wanted to share what I see with everyone who may not be as fortunate as I to have the opportunity to see this big equipment, but also to promote mining in a positive way
The best large excavators built by Cat.
I would agree with that!
No bad looking machines when you consider they are 40 years old and still working and earning their keep !
Ripping that shale out has got to be hard on the back. I was getting sore just watching. lol Those two Cats are a joy to watch. Thanks much!
Hello, I went to the Cat factor about 20 years ago. The excavator specialist told me that he agreed that the 235 & 245 were the best excavators built by Cat. Their demise was strictly a money issue. They would have been two expensive due to the imports from overseas. Damn shame.
Very true. I have heard the same from other source's myself
Great video as usual. Appreciate getting the story behind the job. Thanks for sharing.
2 really old machines but they look like they are in great shape and working hard. Thanks for the video!
Yes they are! You can't kill the old Cat equipment
would like to have a 4'x4' blown up poster made of these iron horses. ill go out on a limb and say this is my #1 pa mining vid. theres some nice framed photos of 60s and 70s era cat iron in there whyane cat in pike co. ky a few mins from me. someone went to a lot of trouble to take them cause there perfect shots of cat stuff putting the hurt on some serious sandstone. been watchin you for yrs now and its a treat to see a PA Mining vid!show up on the new video list greetings from eastern ky.
Thank you, that means a lot to me!! If you haven't seen my post on Facebook yet, there will be a second video to accompany this one of the 245 and 9G at work....just because I thought this job was so cool! Glad you like my videos; greetings from the great state of PA!
Great work finding these older Cat machines at work! I would love to be there watching this! Please get more film of old Cat machines like this! Too Cool!
Looks like you can equip that bucket with a set of small ripper shanks from the looks of the pockets on the back of the bucket.
My favorite Cat excavator of all time. Love watching the old 245s at work.
One of mine too. The 245's are bears for hard rock work and are very simple maintenance machines
Great old equipment. Fun to watch!
Used to be cats biggest dozer and excavator…in the 80s new bright made remote controlled 9l,992c,777b, and the elusive 245 you put oil in and would smoke…I had loader rock truck and Pete mixer I’d give anything to still have put up…the 9g is my favorite but without limb risers givin it that “bull” look it just ain’t right…Al quiring has a few setup like I would have with stout winches and alotta line…
Those 245,s just sound good working
loved the video. Thanks for sharing
GREAT VIDIO
with I had them to play with in my sand box
that dozer can roll some serious coal
great video
Great video. Can you make one explaining how to judge the condition of these old machines and about overhauls?
That's a tricky one. There's a lot one needs to look at and consider before purchasing a used piece of heavy equipment
Good old Iron, That 9G looks alot like a 9H? Thanks for posting PA
It's a 9G, I know that for a fact lol. The 9G and 9H do look very similar. The cab's are one feature that tell the two machines apart. Thanks
Beautiful old cat... What are the two rectangular pieces of steel on the back of the bucket?
Those would be the shank inserts for ripper teeth on the back of the bucket to help the machine tear through rock. Similar to a shank ripper on a bulldozer.
oh by the way don't see the 9g much without the limb risers on the rops, either way one of the best...
Does CAT still maintain the parts for these older models?
Thanks! Love the videos!
Yes, Cat supplies parts for the 9G and 245. If it's a Cat product, you should be able to get parts for it no matter of its age
What the hell, You found out machine to move in time? Looks like it is a jobsite from late 70's. Excavator looks a bit tired (still it works fine and will work long time) but dozer looks quite fresh.
THATS A 245 - A MODEL STILL A FRONT LINE RIG WE HAVE A 245-B MODEL THATS A HEAVY LIFT TRENCHER ARRANGEMENT ITS ABOUT 85 ton 169,680lbsNOTHING ELS EVEN COMPARES TO ITS DIGGING ABILITY CAT 245 THE WORLDS BEST EXCAVATOR IF YOU DONT' AGREE YOU AINT BEEN AROUND BIG AL BOSTON, MA,
Those machines are mine and are in great operating condition the 245 coulduse some paint but mechanically both machines are well taken care of, anything small gets fixed before it is something big.
One question i have is, why isnt there a ripper shank on the bucket seeing as he is in shale rock? Its it too hard to the point it would cause damage to the bucket or machine?
+Alexx Ison The purpose of that is so a ripper shank can be installed on the back of the bucket for use when ripping rock.
+PAmining ah I see.how come they aren't running a shank on it? Seems like a good application
+Alexx Ison Apparently because the machine can handle digging through the rock under its own power, hence there is no need for a ripper
+PAmining thanks for the response! Makes sense
Hey pa mining how much does a 245 weigh minis the stick and counter weight?
I'm not sure off the top of my head
+PAmining That's ok
Good to see some fuel burnt!!!
