  • On the workbench today is an old Replica Railways GWR 57xx pannier tank locomotive, dating back to the 80s. The wheels have already been painted, and some details have been picked out with metallic marker pens. Today we're going further, adding a splash of red under the boiler, a touch of weathering, and sorting out the reverser handle.
Frontington & Backwoods Railway is a OO gauge model railway, representing a GWR-esque heritage railway somewhere in the Westcountry.

Just to let you know that The reverser is the Correct way round before you removed it and Rotated it around Cheers.Lewis.👍

From what I can find out, the reverser is only that way round on OO gauge models (even brand new Bachmann models). On the real thing the lever is closest to the driver. Here's an example I found online: sambrandist.blogspot.com/2012/04/hi-everyone-way-to-travel-bacon-bap.html

Were you able to reduce the noise of the motor or is there a quieter alternative replacement for it?
    Cheers,
    Michael.

Basically, the Replica Railways model is old. If you can find an used chassis in perfect as-new condition it should be better, but still won't be as good as a modern Bachmann chassis.

      @@FrontingtonandBackwoodsRailway Cheers mate,
I've got a lovely model in near mint condition but runs loud as ever, was wondering if it would help by changing the gear wheels, the way it is it beats DCC Sound.😁

And you did not change the worst part of the engine, aka the drive?

I could have replaced the chassis with a newer Bachmann one, but then I might as well have replaced the entire model. This was more of an experiment to see how much I could improve for free. But yes, in the end it was the mechanism that let it down most.
