I was raised strictly, when the world finally opened for me, this was MY band. No one else knew. I consumed 10cc like a perfect meal, each & every time. Unbelievable. Thank you.
When I was about 9 or 10 yrs old, my big sister took me with her to a place called “The Preview House” in Hollywood, CA. It was a testing theatre for various media such as, TV shows, feature films, commercials, music, etc. We would sit in an audience and watch or listen to whatever they played for us and with a small handheld unit, we would rate the experience. Sometimes throughout the playback and sometimes after. One time I distinctly remember the room going dark, and I heard a beat, then all of a sudden I was mesmerized by the sound that filled the theatre. It was an ethereal and enveloping chorale that excited my ears like never before. It was as if I was transported into my own mind, floating and wandering through a spatial abyss. It was wonderful. The song they were playing was “I’m not in love” by 10cc. My young self could hardly process the lyrics but the music had me fully, and happily entranced. Easily, my most memorable visit to the Preview House. That song also played a big part in my becoming a musician. By the way, I gave them an A rating.
I just love this! I'm a 10cc super geek from childhood. Definitely agree with the others who say that this band is up there with the Beatles in creativity and pure warped pop genius. I finally got to see 10cc live in Belgium about 5 years ago. We had house-swapped in a little town called Eeklo, and it just so happened that they were the headline act at an annual music fest there. I was blown away, and overjoyed. Thanks for making this doc! And thanks to 10cc.
Probably the ultimate 10cc rarity, great background story and of course thanks for sharing. Thanks also to Lol, Kevin, Graham and Eric for making some of the most inventive, witty, fantastic and just plain enjoyable music of the seventies. You were great.

Im very fortunate to own Erics 56 Fender Stratocaster that he used in tandem with a Les Paul back then. He owned it for over 40 years and through all of 10CC and on 3 Paul McCartney albums!

To have gone to the extremes you guys did to bring the Revlon ad music to the big screen.... That is, UA-cam has been a highlight of my years in love with music. A privilege to have been alive through the careers of the members of 10cc. Thank you for sharing such a gem.
Think of all the people yet born who are going to hear 10cc for the first time, just like we did back in the day, and the joy it will bring them. "Poor sods"? Hardly.
Wow thanks for putting this out there for all of us to see and hear, good to see Graham and Kevin's reaction too, just love this band the production on those 70's albums were just sublime, what talent thanks again :-)
Fantastic video - thank you for taking the time to do this and for putting it up on UA-cam. so many happy memories associated with 10cc - takes meback to the 70's and my broken hearted teenage years!
What a wonderful insight into how they constructed and worked...even though they can't remember it! Thankful that there are folk about who treasure the "physical" part of having music around. I'm still proud of the fact that people took the mick when I bought the first album to go with my Hotlegs 45. It took The Original Soundtrack to shut most of 'em up!
This is a fantastic video. I have only just seen it today but it is wonderful. You can feel the excitement of unearthing the track and the conversations with Graham and Kevin are great.
I'm a super 10CC lover from Tokyo, Japan. Thank you for your fantastic documentary video(Great 10CC lost tapes!!). Just amazing! ! Though I'm a rock band director/manager, I know sometimes the band forgets about their recording for some songs used in a commercial haha.

the most intriguing story in music is of the Neil Sedaka album 'The Tra La Days Are Over' which was recorded at strawberry studios and featured 10cc on it as a band, before they were a band. it's a fascinating, overlooked story and also one of my favourite albums of all time, yet not on spotify etc, the album and story around it just vanished. @@smacreavy Great work, Sean! Thanks for bringing this to us. And for the record, I think its a beautiful piece of music. ;-) EDIT: I meant to also comment, that little flat 5th descending piano line on the commercial sounds an awful lot like the intro guitar to Survivor....
Dunno how many times I've watched this video now, and every time I do, I keep picking out likenesses between the Revlon music, and other 10cc tunes. For example, the backing vocal voicings on the D chord are very reminiscent of the backing vocals that bring in Art For Art's Sake, as are the various guitar picky bits in the intro and middle section of AFAS to the piano part in the Revlon music. I think it says that in 1976, the members of 10cc were definitely thinking about certain musical themes in their own and the band's music.
@@smacreavy Btw Sean, re podcast 65, just to throw some more ambiguity and uncertainty into the backing vocal issue for you, I can definitely hear a high G on only the A, above Kevin's E, which would make that chord an A7. I'm fairly certain its not an overtone, because it seems to gently fade in on that chord, as though the person singing it only introduces it at that point. That note sung gentler, coupled with Eric's quieter part too, could that track have possibly been a bounce of two separate takes, Eric's part being a piece of one that was bounced in at a lower volume? Definitely very strange!

When I finally got the chance to see them for the first time at Hammersmith Odeon (Deceptive Bends tour) in June, 1977 I was thrilled.
