Thanks for that in depth review. I really like how you keep the segments where the customers either phone or come into the shop. It just adds to what is clearly an unscripted discussion from two knowledgeable people.
The original has 93 variations in artwork. Once upon a time I thought I was going to collect them all, haha. Great video guys! I'm going for the picture disc
Another awesome video !! I bought the two CD set and am happy with it. Nice to see Anthony. Although he would make an awesome President, I don't think he should go for it. Better off there at Sound Exchange in light of current events over there !!! Seriously though great video Thanks Brendon
That album will always hold a special place in my heart. August 18th 1983...Shea Stadium...Joan Jett opens for The Police and my 16 year old ass is there on the field, right around shortstop, the Shea stadium refit is still pretty new and the DiamondVision is very cool. The show is awesome, Joan kills it as the opener and The Police rock out past midnight, still the greatest concert experience of my life. Will never forget the "Tea Break" the band took about 90 minutes into the show and the cameras followed them and it was shown on DiamondVision. Felt bad for the grounds crew because it rained lightly during the show and when we left...the field was an absolute mess. Great experience!
Looks like a cool box set if you’re a fan of The Police or this album. I usually only buy these “deluxe editions” of a particular album if I like the band and I already don’t own the album. The box sets I prefer to buy are the ones that collect a whole bunch of full length albums in a set so you get the bang for your buck. I also like box sets that are “best of” sets that have live stuff, and rarities.
Anthony always cracks me up, when he goes in curmudgeon mode about something, you know the F-bombs are incoming, haha! You guys make a great duo, good chemistry!
Can report no more boobs in English newspapers anymore ! They have become all very PC ! Great vid as always - Anthony needs his own TV show ! Salute from London
Hey Brendon - I know you don’t rip your collection, but in this case you could reorder the tracks how you want them. Rip the whole box to flac (lossless). Then, put the song files into folders for demo, rough mix, instrumental. Or you could burn CD-Rs and do the same. That’d be a fun project for a rainy day.
I love the demo version of Every Breath You Take. Overall a stunning album. Classic! One complaint about this box set - I wish they could include replica tour programs as well.
I bought the box set and love it..also picked up the picture disc that actually slips into the box set to make it more cool..the live gig is great plus I enjoy listening to the demos..The Police are probably the only band I can't rate from 1 to 5..it's impossible for me as I rate them equally.
the "boob" cover is actually on disc 2 of the box set, Anthony can rest easy, but it's in black and white, my original 83 vinyl has the same photo pattern but in color.
@BrendonSnyder Brendon, Do you know if that picture disc is a different mix or something? Or, is it just the same music, just in a different running order?
With regard to how I treat soundtracks (I don't have any yet but have several on my wishlist) it would depend First of all soundtracks made entirely or almost entirely of one artist (eg; Disney's Tarzan by Phil Collins) would be treated as one of theirs. Compilation soundtracks would be put in one of the following categories depending on which it fits: Broadway, Disney, and Video Games
I compare every box set that I get to what Bear Family puts out. If you aren't listing every track, it's recording date/location and who was on the track, you're not going that extra mile for the fans who will cough up $100+ for a box set.
Yes, I agree the 6cd set is overpriced, by at least $40. I refused to pay that outright and so I hauled a bunch of trade ins to my local record store last night. With tax, the box was $130. Why I feel it's overpriced? It works out to over $20 per CD when the average is $15 for a single disc. Plus there's quite a few tracks previously issued on Message in a Box from 1993. I could have done without the art prints, especially when the corners were bent on my copy. The big hardbound LP size book is nice but do we really need another coffee table book? To me this could've been edited to 5 discs and packaged more compactly.
Just for info..... The Sun (which is the newspaper you were referring to ref Page 3 girls) stopped poblishing topless glamour photos in 2015. I agree that the original cover showing the boobs should also be included. It's part of the legacy of the album.
I’m a long time The Police fan, but I wasn’t aware of a cover variation with boobs. 😊 You mentioned that it’s not present in this release, but isn’t it on the back side of CD2 (B-sides / Bonus Tracks)? There’s a little boobs on that cover.
If I had a nickel for every complaint about box sets these days. LOL. The large format for reading the book --- it's too BIG! Zappa Erie was like that too and no sleaves for the cds on top of it. BAD. Music is amazing though so I can forgive some of it. Jethro Tull did it right. All those book sets are EXCELLENT.
Agreed with every complaint/comment you both made..it’s a big rip off… and why is that Asian lady featured so many times.. is she a member of the Police???
You convinced me NOT TO BUY THIS BOX SET. I am personally tired of the record industry putting together a box set that is incomplete in information that has pages of B.S. or pictures of things that should be included in the box set. Original record, remastered version, live version(s), demos and other recorded additions, music words booklet, liner notes, etc., all should be in the box set for the money they want for it. Anything less is rip off! This is a rip off.
That’s the point of these reviews…to give you the info you need to make the right decision for you. I chose to pass as well. All I needed was the 2 CD edition.
Hi I think it's not a great boxset. All extra material is just been put down at random on the extra cd's. No logic at all. It sucks. Hop you enjoy it. Take care.
I think the boxset is very “logical”. All the songs have been organized but song so that you can experience the progression of each track as the album took shape. Many boxsets are put together this way and lots of thought goes into it. But for me I prefer the songs to be grouped by type meaning all of the demos together, all of the alternate editions together, etc.
75 US Dollar would be 68 Euro only. The 6CD Super Deluxe Edition is not available (in Germany) for less than 99,99€. PS: As for the "Titty" Cover - Sting has turned into a super political-correct hypocrite since the nineties, hasn't he?
@candelise That's up to her, isn't it? The funniest thing is that all those blokes pulling their puddings while looking at her pics would never have stood a chance with her.

Love these reviews!!! I went with the 2 disc set works for me. Great feedback.
So glad you guys did this review. Thanks
Shout out to Anthony! Thanks for sending the Saigon Kick CD. Can't wait to listen to it again after all these years. Thanks again brother!
I was at that Oakland show. At the time, it was a big deal. So I am so glad that they included the entire show here
How many pages is the booklet on the 2 cd version? Cool review

..on the fence. Should I buy it or just keep listening to the original lp and watch the live dvd from this tour....hhhmmm
I forgot this was coming out!!! 😲😲😲😲 I need to get this!!! 🎶🎶🎶🎶
Glad we were able to give you a reminder
I downloaded it today Brendon!!! This is my favorite Police album!!! 🎶🎶🎶

I saw them twice...on "The Ghosts" tour AND later on, on their farewell tour years ago. Both shows were awesome!
Great Review Guys

Good, fun, knogable video, thanks.
I have the message in a box. I like the remastering from that one. Imo there best album is Zenyatta Mondatta. I'd like to see a deluxe of that one.
Same thoughts. Zenyatta is a their best album

In books, archival paper is acid free so it doesn't deteriorate.

If anything I would get the two CD set. all that other bonus stuff would be dust collector and it’s not worth the money to end up being that

I think that may have been Andy’s girlfriend or wife?
I just checked and I’ve actually got the t!t version. Who knew?
Excellent! Keep it!
Best album they have
If you do not want to listen to the tracklisting in order put it on “shuffle” end of discussion.
If that works for you that’s great! Enjoy! 👍

It's cheaper in the UK 70 pounds 6 disc set
Lover's Rock by The Clash does not suck.
We all know that you’re walking out with that box set Brendan
Love Police. But i am tired of all these bloody boxes of everything. I have my original vinyl from 1983 and there i stop.
I think that boxset Is a rip off
Most of them are now.
The most important Police release in 40 years. Without superfan Jez Rippon this project would never have been possible
Doctor Eddie Ganja Here did you know Richie Blackmore hates The Police
Why would this matter?
Anthony looks possesed in the thumbnail.
He enjoys trying to ruin the pic each time 😂

Stop with these fucking cardboard sleeves. The discs come out of the packaging already scuffed up. $125 MSRP ffs.
Total rip off. Even the original album sounds like demo. Terrible.
You really need to review the product before making your videos, lots of incorrect information. Rather embarrassing really................
Why are you embarrassed? I’m not. I stand by the whole thing 👍
A Brit here - Page 3 is no longer A Thing, thankfully.
