I hear this all the time, and it's rubbish. The mods just started taking different drugs and turned into the hippies. There weren't really mods in 1968, they were done. The skinhead thing was a new thing, an urban thing, brought about by mixing of working class whites and first generation, born in England (usually) Jamaicans. It's one of the things that p!sses me off about the modern Mod/Skin/Scooter scene. You never saw a skinhead on a scooter.
Things started off being culturally based on music and clothes. When the number of skinheads was increased by football fans aggravation elements started.
