I was part of the Bazaar bar that hosted the bachelor party for the skeletons and a key memory from this game was having to kick people out at dagger-point for disrespecting the happy couple.
Its not the archers its the arrows and lack of weapons check.
The arrows both speed and slow from calamcil are not rated for the poundage we use. The bigger heads that dont fit in an eyesocket and actually squish are perfectly safe.
TO THE DRINK!!
Me and my partner are prepping now to join next month! Wonderful video. Had already decided on Blue as well XD
Great review, it definitely mirrored a lot of my thoughts. It was an awesome time and we can't wait to come back to Blue Camp next year!
As the resident greenskin in the bazaar, its great you hear the appreciation for the full prosthesis players, we need all the vibes we can get :D
Have you ever been to DrachenFest in Germany? It's even bigger with around 5000 players and 10 competing camps and a very nice city called Aldradach.
Thank you for such a comprehensive review! I've honestly been on the fence about Drachenfest US, but hearing you speak to how much you appreciated the character-to-character interactions and roleplay opportunities definitely tipped me over to the side of participating. Your candor about the game, your experience, and it's strengths and flaws is very refreshing. Looking forward to playing in 2024!
Hell yeah! We are setting up something for the Crafters! Join us!
That was a really nice write up guys.
14:39 ...and he was a good friend.
Sounds like you had a lot of fun! I wish I had more time off to be able to attend DrachenFest with you guys.
my buddy was in blue camp last year and invited me and my fiance this year and we are so excited for this event!! cant wait to be a part of this world and experience this for myself. cant wait to see you there hopefully! this will be our first larp ever
Definitely gotta try it out next year!!
Thanks for the break down I know so many folks that have played, but I rarely get to ask about it.
Thank you for making this. Ive been interested to try LARP for awhile now after loving drama from high school and loving fantasy all my life. I dont know if I'll be able to get what I want together for next year but videos like this help me really want to try!
I was at Drachenfest this year! I was a part of the Bazzar, specifically the Lamp Lighters. I would've loved to have interacted with Blue Camp a whole lot more, hearing stories of the things you guys got up to was so fun.
For my first ever LARP, it was a fantastic experience, and i'd like to mention one of my big takeaways from the whole event. At the start, I was really worried about breaking the rules and messing up, and hoping I didn't make mistakes, but on the final day, the big battle, it finally clicked for me, that the rules aren't really something to worry about too much, they help with the framework of good roleplay, but in the end, it's just about having fun and doing cool shit. In the final battle, I was hit by a two handed sword twice for 4 HP total, I had 5 total but it was such a good kill for the person that got me, I let them have it and considered myself dead, I could have gone on further or said "actually I have 5 HP so I'm not dead yet" but that would've taken away from that persons experience of getting a damn good kill in the final battle.
Drachenfest was such a fun time and I am so down to do it again next year, and the next time, I hope to get even more into my character and into the roleplay than I did this year as I was learning the ropes.
This sounds inedible. Thanks for making this video.
I couldn't have said it better myself! Also, that bit about skeleton dating gets me every time! 😂
I want to go. Aside from ticket cost and travel, what would a fair "starter"set of gear cost? Clothing, weapons, other assorted items I mean.
One of my favorite things about DFUS was that all the characters originate from other worlds and sometimes you'd run into someone else from the same world as you and that was super fun
The surgeons guild was forgotten 😭😭 but you’re absolutely right about the crafter’s guild
I had so much fun being of the bazaar, it was a blast living in a tent city. Getting to explore the camp after I closed my shop was the best, go figure I always ended up at Blue Camp.
See you next year, when the Dragons call again.
Undead Steve slayed many foes during shadow camps great siege.
People keep asking me if I was the skeleton getting married. No Steve's a one set of bones guy
Gasp! No love for the Bardic guild?! 😒 and I thought we were friends…
100% agree on that final “that’s where my friends are”. 😢
Blue has my heart 💙💙💙

I was there, I think we interacted a bit! Hope to see you next year!
For someone considering going next year as their first ever larp, do you have any tips/tricks/ or advice on what to bring? I know it's summer so definitely a good bit of water and what not but I'm very curious on how much I should really bring. Like how does setting up camp go, and how far are you trekking each trip to and from the parking lot with all your gear
Pennsic...Drachenfest US and bicolline.....so many campaigns how can a explorer & mercenary keep up lol
As someone who has been to both this year? DFUS is still exciting and entertaining. Also, hi, from “Doc Lily”
To the Abyss !!!!
As a 10+years attendee of DF Germany, this is fascinating to hear. Seems like the transplant to another continent actually worked out! :)
I have some questions.
You say you have never been to a larp of this size. How come? Isn't this as much of a hobby as in europe? Germany has 3 or 4 conventions of 600-6000 players. I thought everything is bigger in the US. ;)
How many days was DFUS?
How much was a ticket?
Was there a ritual to call the dragons at the beginning like in Germany?
Cheers to you and this review! I'm so glad that you had such a great time at Drachenfest USA and loved Blue Camp so much!
To Freedom! To the Drink! 🍻
Whoa who whoa. You can’t just drop “that was a safety issue” and not specify why!
I'd assume the same issue with a lot of them, arrows are a lot harder to control than melee. Didn't go to Drachenfest, but I've seen and had it happen to me where you get hit where it's off limits to, along with if something goes wrong with the arrows and they break in different ways as it's harder to tell if they've had damage until they completely fail if it's within the safety head.
I was there and was an archer. The arrows were inspected by players and referees before and during the battle many times. Accidental hits in non-target areas is equal risk to melee. How many unintentional nut taps have you seen? 🗡️ 🌰
I work Limbus and I'm constantly impressed by the level of roleplay of people coming through.
