The PW really wanted to make Tunnel Vision mission from AC3 and were like: "Hmmmm the main campaign was missing a tunnel run....WHAT IF WE MADE IT THE WHOLE LEVEL!?!"
Tunnel Vision was also an entire mission. No enemy base in the end though, if you go too fast through the last section you just crash into a placeholder sky.
At the start: It ain't an Ace combat game without a tunnel run, or equivalent. As it progressed: you this tunnel, and music is absolute fire! At the end: ah, an enemy base, dessert.
Revenge of the yacht! Now, he thought he could be hanging out in a REALLY safe and out-of-the-way location, and even got upgraded with AA guns for self defense. Not that it would change anything.
I mean it's very on the nose, but I feel like this is the mission that Driver signed up for. His occupation outside of the Reserves, the speeding tickets, the speeding cameras and dialogue about fines and arrests... Driver's probably a pilot because of speed and adrenaline more than anything else. Redline blazing as you soar inches above the freeway in a confined space, going faster on a highway than Driver has ever gone. It's beautiful, I know the comparison has been made several times but this is to Driver what Cold War is to Monarch.
Now that I think about it, why are the Feds have so much confidence on Driver, I mean sure he's a good pilot but still he's a reservist, even if the Federation are desperate there are better uses of skilled pilot other than a suidal mission. Unless the Feds know something about Driver, enough that they are willing to commence such an operation.
this is like a gamble that the federation decided to bet you on. After all you have proven yourself to be more than just a reservist and this mission is extremely crucial to them because if they don't executed it they won't be able to push the cascadians out so the feds probably praying the entire time you are inside the tunnel
My head cannon right now is that Driver is a retired Ace pilot who used to fly during Oceania and the top brass already know that and is the main reason they green lighted this op, whether that's accurate or not we may or may not find out some day
@@bumblebeepotatoDigging into this theory. His draft email even title with DO NOT IGNORE. He could be a driver just for a thrill of speed. Seeing he got speeding ticket.
They also said that all they lose if Driver fails is a pilot they have to scrape off the tunnel walls, but if he succeeds, they can do severe damage to the Cascadians.

Eye-Tee flaming Driver for dragging her along is a great touch
Wouldn't you?
😭she oughta flame me more 😭😭
I can just imagine Eye Tee as ACF turns around and goes back in the tunnel. "Awesome, let's go on ho-- ...what are you doing!? NO, NO, OH GOD!"

this similar to "final option" mission from AC 5 but combined with "Cape rainy Assault"

11:52 i bet that's a MGSV reference. If you hit a command post hard, that line is literally said both in Africa and Afghanistan, i love it!
Now that you say that, yeah, it is possible considering this is the only time they ever refer to command as "CP."
