He used to work for my dad at his oil company and he used to help us do stuff around the house. Never thought he would become famous like this. He’s a really good guy and deserves everything he has now
Shane Smith and the Saints / Whisky Myers / Cody Jinks / Turnpike Troubadours / Alex Smith / The Steel Woods / Ward Davis / Whitey Morgan. Enjoy the rabbit hole!
Just stop listening to the radio? There's tons of artists like him. Hell check out western AF on UA-cam. They have almost weekly showcases and singles from country singers
As Bill W says below - how can one describe how awesome this song is. The lyrics are raw & real, the guitar, the way Ian Noe sings just gives me chills. A storyteller extraordinaire.
You damn right it has I live in east texas the dope that's going around was created to make people methheads just like he's telling this story about the reason I know this is during my 20 years of doing I never looked And lived like these Zombies walking around THESE PEOPLE MEED HELP BAD BUT KNOW BODY CARES ANYMORE ......SAD BUT TRUE
In Tennessee mountain city its methhead heaven here it came to us in the 70's and it's stuck we were once a boom town now it's a town full of methheads and veterans and farmers.
It's like he's wrote the story of my life. My mom was "Irene," my baby's dad is the "fucking methhead..." I just can't even tell you what medicine this has been to me, knowing this guy exists and has put these stories to music. My cousin, Jonathan, from Capture Kentucky showed me "Irene" and I've been binging this guy ever since. We've needed you, Man. So glad you're on the scene. Please don't stop.
Man, this song hits home perfect description of rural America I see the first verse about 5 times a day here in Maine beautiful lyrics describe an ugly truth of almost every town nowadays... hats off man. him and colter keeping country alive and a new true way
Yup. And opioids especially. Hearing my boss talk about just how devastated his entire extended family has been by heroin is so truly depressing. And every time I go to Portland it seems worse than the last time I was there.
It's this whole Goddamned country. We have Soul sickness in the West. We sold a lie that we could have infinite pleasure, infinite materialism, etc and that there wouldn't be a cost. But the cost was a hole inside so many of us that no amount of dope, booze, pills, or fucking will ever fill.
Was ubering last night. This song came on while I had a young lady in the car. She was listening and said “this song must be about my ex husband” we started to talk about it. I’ve got old “friends” who are lost to this. Damn good song.
I saw this young Dude "Ian Noe" when he was about "16-17yrs old at the "MTN ARTS Center" in P'burg, Ky. Several yrs back. He has a mixture of Bob Dylan, John Prine & a little bit of "DAC/ David Allan Coe" & quite Alot of FOLK in his songs & singing. But, with a style "All his Own"! He opened for "DAC" who was or was Supposed to have been the "Main Attraction"? I did say that he was Supposed to have been? Ian Noe had basically had just started "Singing & Touring. You could tell he was pretty Nervous "I Know i've been there"! But, Ian was AWWSOME. I spoke to Alot of ppl after the concert & 9 out of 10 thought he was also. But, when DAC came on stage. He was SOO DRUNK & just Totally Plastered. He didn't know what his name was? He'd sing 2-3 lines of a song & could NOT remember the words to his songs? Then, if that wasn't Bad enough? His wife comes on stage to with him. She could NOT carry a Tune in a bucket "Just being Honest"! Any & Every singer has had this to happen to them many times. It just happens. Ask Any singer Where the Mic stand will Slowly slide down. When her Mic stand slid down. She Threw a PURE Tantrum like she was 4-5 yrs old "Literally"! Needless to say: They Both were BOOED off stage. I Was a Big "DAC" Fan until that happened. She took the Mic & stand & Threw it across the stage. She was not a bad looking woman? But, the way she acted & started throwing stuff. They Both were "ESCORTED OFF STAGE" while "Cursing every breath"!! I think it even Embarrassed "Ian Noe" also!! They should've taken a Belt or what my Granny use to call a "PISS ELM" switch to' both of them & Absolutely WHUUPED the Piss out of them!! But, i Seriously EVER Doubt IF they will EVERRR get "ReBooked at the MAC EVERR Again....EEVERRRRRR? "IAN NOE" YESSS!! But, DAC & his wife? That would be REALLY BIGG ]NOOOOO WAYY"!! On a Scale of 1-10. 1 being the Worst & 10 the Best. I'd HAVE to Rate DAC & his wife a "1" & that's being Very generous!! And as for "IAN NOE". I'd Have to give him an "8+" & that would be Very Conservative number!! I'm Just being Honest!!
Ian I've listened to a few of your song's, I really enjoy your sound, and like everyone else that left comments, you wrote this perfectly, my hats off to you bro
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank spotify for shuffling 'Letter to Madeline' into my discover weekly. It took me 2 listens of that song to order the entire album on vinyl. Just pre-ordered his upcoming album, which will be coming out in EU at the end of april. Looking forward to that treat!
I'm glad I stumbled across this tune and that you're also at the Chicago music exchange cuz I'm originally from Chicago but transplanted to a region of Central Illinois that this is a desperate desperate problem in this area and around here great lyrics great Melody as well anytime I feel angst from being around those types of people I'll just play this song and think about what I need to
I discovered this song 2 days before someone jumped through a large plate glass window of my woodworking shop, walked through and jumped through another one at the other end. He didn't take anything from inside but stood under the light over the front door and bled for a while. The police found him in jail about 30 miles away the next day.
very very special! Had the pleasure of buying this man a whisky. If he doesn't make it big then there is really no justice in music anymore. His songs were true genius when i saw him live, unfortunately cant find them anywhere. Roll on his first album!
Discovered this fella yesterday and wow! Arlo and Dylan wrapped in one. It hits close to home. My county is probably 1/4 methheads. Lots of stealing and close friends dying and disappearing. Great song and a killer voice.
As someone who liked the song a lot from the moment I first heard it, I'm kind of sobered by the lyrics. Although the melody is beautiful and, from an artistic point of view, his choice of words is very elaborate, the content devalues people suffering from an addiction. I waited till the last line, hoping for some critical distancing which didn't happen.
The entire song is humanzing them though?? The entire song is more of a statement on the observer than the addict. Or are you too pompous and myopic to get what its saying about YOU

That’s cool
I never thought anyone from Beattyville would make it.
I heard him for the first time at the best dive bar in Seattle "The Smoke Shop" in Ballard...it was haunting....
So you paid him nothing to do hard work like the rest of the businesses? Good for you. You're dad is useless
@@gregfawcett5152I'll bet.
This is fucking brutal. It's about damn time we got some honesty back in Country Music.
For real, the days of the romanticized moonshiner are a thing of the past, this is what's really happening in the backwoods
There is no shortage of real country artists if you turn off the radio and hit some music festivals.
I really like this one. It's a truth we never talk about.
'real' country never left, you just stopped listening because it was pushed off the radio.
Total gut punch yeah.
In the last week I've found Colter Wall, then Childers, Lost Dog Street Band, now Noe. It's been a good week for music.
Shane Smith and the Saints / Whisky Myers / Cody Jinks / Turnpike Troubadours / Alex Smith / The Steel Woods / Ward Davis / Whitey Morgan. Enjoy the rabbit hole!
Sturgill
Jason Isbell, John Prine, Todd Snider, Robert Earl Keen Jr, American Aquarium and Brian Fallon are all worth digging into👍
That IS a good week! Been onto Colter for a while but just found Noe. Great storytelling
Steel drivers, reckless Kelly and drive by truckers are good too.
This guy is an oasis in a desert of bro-country and pop
Just stop listening to the radio? There's tons of artists like him. Hell check out western AF on UA-cam. They have almost weekly showcases and singles from country singers
@elatomico7791 AGREED, 100%.
As Bill W says below - how can one describe how awesome this song is. The lyrics are raw & real, the guitar, the way Ian Noe sings just gives me chills. A storyteller extraordinaire.
I'm from the Appalachian mountains... this song hurts it's so true. I've watched that shit destroy so many people

He aint hiding behind anything....Vocals, guitar & great lyrics.... Straight from his soul
I didn’t think country could be good...I was wrong. Well said Noe, from a metal head
My friend, if u like this, i could suggest a dozen artist right now, and that list would be in no way exhaustive.

The most truthful hardcore song ever written about Meth! Excellent!

Ian Noe is magic. The lyrics and melody are epic! Please keep writing and singing, we need this music.
Just saw him live. He opened for Colter Wall and did great.
Collin Owen same here! Saw him last night in Birmingham with Colter.
I see at Barcelona in the Rocksound with Colter Wall, nice job the two guys!
Tonight in Phoenix with Colter
Saw him open for colter two weeks ago in Nashville. Hell of a show man.
I came to the comments to see if anyone noticed how he looks like Colter as far as their style of stage presence. That's so weird
This has got to be the most real song I have heard in a long time, sounds like he wrote it about our town.
One of the truest songs ever written
Best lyrics ive heard sung in a good while.
This song goes so fkn hard.
If you close your eyes you'd think it was Arlo Guthrie. This songs tells one hell of a story.
Arlo is exactly who I thought he sounded like too
He DOES sound like Arlo... good call.
Glad there is other Arlo lovers out there. A national treasure.

There’s nothing one can say to describe how awesome this song is. It’s Kurt Cobain and John Prine mixed into one
I thought I was the only one that recognized the John prine.
