  • A response and reaction mainly to poor train crew visibility brought about the EMD BL2 in the 1940's as the predecessor F units (covered wagons) essentially only had visibility in one direction and that one direction had poor low sight line angle - for ground crew, yard signals etc.
Train Sim dev DTM has released the latest pack of his in the form of Wild Mary's only 2 BL2's, no 81/82 as well as some rolling stock, FA units and GE 44 tonner as well - so let's take a look.

Excellent video as always! The BL2 is definitely an oddball locomotive, which to me makes it fascinating. You can find one of these still in operation (alongside a Brunswick Green PRR F-7) on "The Stourbridge Line" located in Honesburg, PA. Their BL2 is ex-BAR #54 but has been repainted.
Thanks for sharing this, I'm going to go pick this loco up asap 👍

His flange squealing noise is pretty realistic imo, when I help run trains or switch with the group I volunteer for it's about that loud lol

Both of the Western Maryland BL-2's survive. No. 81, survives at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. 82 resides at the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad (DGVR) in Virginia, and West Virginia. Deep in coal country.

Looked up pics of the surviving WM BL2 on the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad, and can confirm that the top of that rear cowling should not have that yellow splotch on it, it should be black for its full length. So the bit where the yellow lining bleeds over is indeed a bug; probably a reused texture for the sides that was stretched to cover that part so as not to have to make new texture sections.
I agree about the camera angle. When the camera is clipping through the ceiling, that should be a sign to the dev that something's wrong, and to have it happen on a release model is a sign to the buyer that little to no QA testing was done and a refund should not be far behind. I slightly disagree about the color; I do think it looks marginally better with at least an attempt at weathering rather than a single plain color. I just also feel like it would've looked even better still if it had been done, ya know, right?
You're absolutely right about not having to rely on modders. It's great when we get folks like CentralJerseyRailfan who will make packs that take tired but basically acceptable sounds and make them amazing. But to have to rely on the modding community to bring a model you bought for cash up to a level of "acceptable" is frankly a disgrace to the original model maker. And to have had this be a recurring issue with DTM models for YEARS with bug all being done about it from DTM's end... I'm sorry, that alone ensures I will never buy any product released by them. If some effort at improvement was being shown, that would be different. But if the maker is content to ignore community feedback and continue churning out subpar products for full price, that is unacceptable to me.

You know how theres a junior and baby trainmaster?
Looks like that but for the F or E units but they accidentally pushed their fingers in too far when picking it up, and added a reversed cab on the other side of the cab
And they made the nose like a cube, honestly if i count all the birth deformations, im noticing that the actual simolourities with the E and F series is that theyr produced by EMD(aka GM)

Odd question....is it normal for the Engineer to sit that high in the cab? Looks like his should hits the top of the window. Been wondering that since I first saw it.

@@schnauzahpowahz I just noticed that the Engineer sits so high, when you take the interior view from the Enigineer's position, it actually clips through the model when you look around the cabin.
