진짜 찐 어른들의 이별인듯. 단순히 싸우거나 누군가 잘못을 저지르고 감정이 상해서 헤어지는 게 아니라, 어느 순간부터 점점 사랑이 식어가며 이별을 직감하고 자신들의 인연이 이젠 서로를 구속하는 족쇄가 돼갈 것을 알기에 행복을 빌며 인연의 끈을 잘라버리는 거... 너무 아프지만 누구의 잘못도 아니라는 게 슬프면서도 가장 깔끔하고 좋은 이별이 아닐까 싶다ㅠㅠ

딱 지금 제 상황입니다..서로의 행복을 빌며 인연의 끈을 잘라버리는거.. 이런이별을 저도 했는데, 사실 이게 찐 어른들의 이별인지 뭔지도 모르겠고.. 이게 가장 깔끔한 이별인지도 잘 모르겠어요.. 심하게 싸우면서 서로에게 심한말을 하고 큰 상처를 주고 끝나는 그런 이별은 아니고 서로 앞으로 좋은 일만 있길 응원하면서 헤어졌기 때문에 틀림없이 좋은면도 있긴 하지만.. 두사람이 만나면서 똑같이 사랑하고 똑같이 식는게 아니다보니 둘중 한사람은 헤어지고 싶어하고.. 나머지 한사람은 그 모습을 보면서 힘든 상황을 지속하다 결국 놓아주는 그림이 되는 경우가 많거든요.. 결국 아직 끈을 놓고싶지 않았던 사람은 그냥 그렇게 남겨진채로 있는거에요. 아마 뮤비에서는 마지막에 아이유가 끈을 자르는 모습이 안나왔는데.. 그런걸 뜻하지 않았을까 싶어요.. 끈을 자르고싶지만 한번에 못잘라요... 남겨진 사람 입장에선.. 전혀 깔끔하지 않아요..ㅜ

다시보니까 너무 슬픈 뮤비네요. 왼쪽위에 CH01 이렇게 남녀 둘의 첫날부터를 채널처럼 돌려보는 아이유 시점인것같아요. 그러고 애인과의 옛채널 즉 과거를 돌려보면서도 남자친구가 최근에 헤어지자고 하면서 "잘먹고 다녀, 주는게 쉽지가 않아 등등" 라고 했던 말이 생각나는 형식이네요.키스하던 애인이 같은 옷을 입고 헤어졌을때의 말을 하는거 보면 CH10 에서의 추억을 떠올리면서도 이랬던남자가 결국엔 이런엔딩으로 이런 말을 하는구나를 비교하는것같구요. 너무 슬프네여 ㅠㅠ 나 자신도 행복하게 연애할때 언젠가 지금의 애인이 헤어지자고 하는 모습이 미래에있을까라며 슬퍼한적이있는데 그걸 음악으로 만들구 심리를 잘 표현한 뮤비 👍

영상을 배우는 사람으로서 마지막 장면의 연출은 정말 본받고 싶습니다. 머리카락을 잘라주려던, 애틋하고 다정한 연인의 모습을 표현할 때 썼던 도구를 순식간에 두사람의 마음을 정리하고, 이별로 다가가는 도구로 전환시킬 생각을 어떻게 하셨는지 정말 대단한거 같습니다. 영상을 보면서 막 감동 받아서 눈물이 난다는건 과장 섞인 말이라고 생각했는데 저 장면을 볼 때 정말 소름돋고 눈물도 나네요.....

알고리즘이 요즘 내 관심사를 잘 아네요.
Maybe it's just me but... from the hesitancy, words, and contrasting expressions between the girl and the boy... I get the feeling that the guy is cheerful, lighthearted, easily liked and accepted by others but the girl is more reserved, slow to trust, and hides her true emotions/facial expressions/depth of love because she is afraid of being vulnerable and takes longer to open up to others. She is thoughtful and internalizes everything, but often protects her inner self from the outside world unless she is sure that person can truly understand and accept her and will not try to tie her down or change her. But the guy mistakes this as hesitancy/lack of commitment... her reserved nature and need to protect herself before she can open up to her loved ones is mistaken as selfishness and loving herself more than anyone else when in actuality she just doesn't know how to show the depth of her feelings for the guy. Before she can even properly process the storm of emotions inside of her he starts misunderstanding her and saying things like ("maybe one day you can find someone who loves you more than you love yourself"), it makes it even more difficult to open up and be honest, "Oh... this whole time I was quietly beside him, he couldn't even see... could he even understand or believe my feelings? What if they have grown too much, what if it pushes him away? How can he show his love so easily, why can't he see what I cannot say...?" He mistakes her reserved nature for coldness... yet she is the one who floats easier than him and does not fall as hard in the moments that they fall a little. I think this means her feelings ran deeper and her internal commitment was actually stronger, she just couldn't express it in a way he could recognize (she says herself he'll never know the feelings he made her feel), which is why he much more easily cut his strings in the end. Funny how she was in essence blamed for being the "selfish" one when it was he who gave up first. It looks like truly, in the end, he really wasn't someone she could trust to show her true self to because he gave up before she even had the chance... he basically proved her fears right, which would make it even more difficult to open up in the future. I love the palpable pain you can feel in her voice and in the lyrics but how her facial expressions look cold and detached and misunderstood/alone. It shows the contrast/battle between her inner world and what she shows on the surface. In the end she just looks tired and alone, sort of like she expected him to give up on her but it still hurts anyway.
Additionally, at the beginning, you can count the strings tied to each person, and IU (representing the girl) has more.

The saddest part of this MV for me is the last 10 seconds. While we watched him let go…we didn’t actually see her let go too. So while he’s gone, the possibility of her still being hung up on him remains. Sad tbh.

Everytime the girl hold the remote, it's like everything in the past has appeared again, so vividly. She is happy, but is painful at the same time. The lyrics is like from both of them; it's the message from the boy for her when he leave her, and also her hope that he should not be painful, because she don't want to see him suffering everyday. The ending is so hurt, but it's not miserable. Both of them always want the other to be happy. They just want to help the other to escape from the pain. As you can see at the ending, the girl also cut the strings, because she would like her love to be truly relieve and be away from all the pain, and finally the boy cut it himself to be truly escape himself from such a scenario.
The ending scene is sad but not miserable, because we know that they always keep the image of the other deep in their heart. I love this music video so much, from the lyrics to the content and effects of the MV. Thank you IU for her excellent product this time, and long time no see but congratulation Kim Soo Hyun because you have done a good job

I just want to give IU a proper credits for the song and the music video. She just executes everything perfectly. I would say that during a break up, no song can ever describe how you truly feels but IU made it in this video. From the warm beginning, the conversation, the flashback of the break up, the words that the guy said, to the very end. Break up is like this. You basically cut off each others string in order to be happy, to just let go once you know it is not meant to be, again - this is not easy. The metaphor of the strings describes the attachment of being in a relationship. We cut off the strings, but - we have to cut off our own string in order to completely let go and move on. IU describes it painfully beautiful.

IU is really an artist she can make people think so deep whether they are a common person or an artist too regardless if who you are she can make you realize things through her song and relate it to your own life. She basically just wrote about what she is going through with love, family, career and her feelings but it can touch your heart how honest those words are. Like when she wrote Graduation Day, Voicemail, Bad Day, 23, Pallet, 25 and the rest of her song it reflect who she is and what she felt in those years and situation she went through. I've been a fan for 7 years but she never fail to amaze me every-time i thought i already know everything about her. I'm looking forward on what she will do again. I don't like her to be pressured by the expectation of others for me as long as she stay true to herself and love what she does i will continue to support her no matter what will happen. IU will always be precious in my heart. She made me realize that music doesn't have boundaries.

When i first listened to this i was so innocent, though it was sad i didn’t understand the depth and meaning of this song and mv.. and yet now ironically im going through the exact same thing in this mv.. almost as if i am IU.
