37:02 I’m just making the realization that coming to earth and having this separation is more than just a “test.” This separation is a part of the covenant we made with the bridegroom before we even came to earth. I’ve always known that, I’ve just never viewed it from the perspective of a wedding feast.
@@cre8509 Yes, I believe we all existed in heaven (what we call the pre-mortal existence) with God, Jesus, and everyone that has and will exist on the earth. And to answer your second question, this is a channel by and for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So yes, I am.
The word ‘Keep’ has taken on new meaning for me that goes along with the ‘bride’ inviting others to come to Christ. Often I think of ‘keep’ as an admonition to follow the words of the covenant or to be faithful to them, and the other meaning would be to keep the words safe, to preserve, to prevent them from being rewritten or changed. We are the keepers of the word.
This is my second time through this podcast. I've got to watch a third time, so I can mark the verses and cross-reference them. Thank you, thank you Andrea and friends. So excited to make this podcast a part of my life!!!!
This is wonderful! Makes me want to start a study group with a couple of my friends. I look forward to more from you, and I'm glad the Stick of Joseph is giving you a platform. Keep teaching, sparking ideas and things to ponder.
I’m in AZ! Would love to to come to Your study group lol 😊 There’s so much to unpack… I think of the female connotation of the tree and the monthly fruit in relation to a woman’s monthly cycle, the 12 tribes as the family of God symbolized in the branches produced by her - growing up from the tree,. Then the water and blood ties to the birth experience and then baptism related to the womb filled with “life giving water” and us being birthed of a woman and then later birthed a new creature through the blood and water of Christ’s sacrifice -- I love the feminine divine / Heavenly Mother that is woven through and symbolized through so much that has been “veiled” and is now being unveiled. I think about the relationship between Her and Jesus and what kind of covenant has possibly or surely has been made between Elohim- both Father and Mother and Christ to bring us all home to them… Mother waiting and watching for our return much like a missionary homecoming. I love all you’ve shared - there’s so many layers and all things denote there is a God.
❤ Wonderful sisters! Thank you for this. So much intricate beauty woven into the symbols of the scriptures and the temple. You made me think of some guidance I received during the trials over the past 4 years. I had some serious health scares and as a Wife and Mother, I have a tendency to be very anxious. Plus a worrier. The Lord said to me , " I am the Alpha and Omega, quit worrying about the middle!" It was so perfect and helped me to go through all of my hospital visits, infusions and surgery. Thanks y'all. Keep it up. I love reading along and studying with others. 🙌🙏👑❤️
I had a similar "Alpha and Omega" experience, though under different circumstances. It began in the Celestial room of the San Anotonio Temple, about 15 years ago, as I sat with my wife, my daughter and her husband, my son who had just returned from a mission, and a son who was about to leave on his mission. As I sat there, taking in my entire family, at the time, there in the Celestial room, the Spirit whispered to me that this was a preview of the next life, where I would enjoy my entire family in the Celestial kingdom. Then, several years later, as my children have struggled in various ways, it seemed as if there was no way that promise could be fulfilled. It was confusing and frustrating. As a temple worker, standing in the place of the Savior and pronouncing His blessings of posterity and eternal priesthood on others, my mind often wandered to that promise, and how it had seemingly fallen apart. After a while, some bitterness began to fester, as none of it seemed possible. This went on, and built up for a few months, I'm ashamed to say. Then one day the bitterness and sadness peaked. But as I spoke the words of the ordinance, the Spirit brought the promise to my remembrance and reassured me that it was still valid. How would it be fulfilled? I didn't know. But the assurance was clear. Then, after several weeks, the reassurance began to fade, and doubt crept in, and the frustration became real as I just could not see how the promise could be valid. And then again, at about the same place in the wording of the ordinance, the Spirit spoke. This time it was more forceful, and was as much a reprimand as an assurance. "I have promised you twice, now--in my Holy Temple, no less. Why do you not believe I can do this? I will do it!" If not those exact words, that is certainly how I would characterize the impression that came. Duly reprimanded, I have decided to rely on His promise and leave it in His hands even though nothing has really changed at this point. Alpha and Omega, indeed. The middle is less important, and will soon be the past. Just keep plugging along!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! It’s truly an answer to my prayers to more fully understand the temple and its purpose and symbols. Please keep these coming!!!
I’ve been pondering this week about how members if the church can get so caught up in the keeping and breaking of rules that we can drive ourselves crazy. My daughter who is on a mission has felt tortured by her inability to fully keep the rules perfectly. And the reason it feels like torture is because we can’t perfectly keep all the rules, but because we are in a relationship with Christ, we will be ok. Admittedly, the way I have interpreted the focus on the covenant path has seemed like focus on keeping all the rules and it’s made me wonder why we keep saying it that way. I appreciate your insight regarding covenants. It’s all about relationship not our ability to perfectly keep the rules. I think so many are leaving the church exhausted and defeated. Feeling they will never be able to live up to the standards and that incorrect interpretation is costing people their relationship with God.
Wow, thank you. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My amazing husband is Catholic. We go to both Sacrament meeting and Mass every Sunday. At Sacrament meeting, we take the water. At Mass, he takes the wine. Together, we have both the water and the wine.
When you pointed out that the leaves were for the healing of the people, I thought that’s a symbol for our duty as members of the church. Once we feel the redemptive and healing power of drawing near to Christ in the temple, we covenant to consecrate our time, talents, and everything else we have been blessed with, to healing of others as we know with them. I am amazed at how many people I have encountered who are having spiritual promptings and are recognizing there is a spiritual battle going on right now in our world. I can only imagine how thrilling it would be to have all those people I’ve met commit to being baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost so they can have MORE of those spiritual promptings, guidance, and love!
Just as "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." is represented by the Star of David pointing up to heaven and the other pointing to the earth. Good symbolism... Thanks...
Easy to view fetching water as a chore not a metaphor. Drawing life, sustaining life, compassionate service, strength, wisdom to return with unbroken waterpots full. Carried on the head. Thank you.
A Stick of Joseph segment diving deeper with Andrea?! Best news ever! Thanks to all for giving such a great production; I'm anxiously looking forward to more.
Love this! Why don’t we have a group of these in different cities?! Certain of us are hungering for this and “Wisdom” is being poured out upon us right now!
Hugh Nibley describes the Egyptian hieroglyphi for worship/ prayer as a right hand held in cupping shape. Edersheim’s book describing the feast day when the courtyard of the temple is filled with worshippers who hold an aethrog/ citrus fruit in their left hand symbolizing the first fruits of the harvest, and in the left hand, a small branch of palms.
White, anciently, represents victory such as the general riding in on the White horse after victory. Red was often the symbol of purity. We think differently today, but it's important to remember that symbols that we are often thinking about have been around a very long time.
I'm glad Andrea is getting more air time! This is great! I would like to add that the water to wine miracle is also symbolic of Christ bleeding from every pore in the garden, his sweat being blood. Also, in D & C 27, Joseph was not told to switch to water for the sacrament. He was told the saints should make their own wine, but also that the emblems of the sacrament could be substituted. An institutional switch to water didn't happen until 1906.
@@ericchapman5923 I don’t think your history right . Try to search better ok . The doctrine and covenants history which you really need to know to understand doctrine and covenants tells us that just Joseph and Emma and the two Johnson husband and wife were together at their farm . Emma was to receive the Holy Ghost . Joseph smith says he needed to do the sacrament . It was just the four of them . Joseph left to go by wine. He was meant by a messenger who was actually Jesus Christ . Who told Joseph to go back and use water . As enemies were going to put poison in it . This is when the water was changed to wine.
@@lindamartinez7006 I am quite familiar with the Doctrine and Covenants, thank you very much. In section 27 he was met by an angel or "heavenly messenger" who used the divine investiture of authority of Jesus Christ and said, "3 Wherefore, a commandment I give unto you, that you shall not purchase wine neither strong drink of your enemies; 4 Wherefore, you shall partake of none except it is made new among you; yea, in this my Father’s kingdom which shall be built up on the earth." While water was and could be used from that time for the sacrament, most of the general membership still used wine in sacrament meetings. It wasn't until 5 July 1906, when the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve began using water instead of wine for their sacrament meetings and the change was implemented universally throughout the church. Even the Church's own history section on the Church's website corroborates this. If you have sources to the contrary, feel free to cite them.

@@lindamartinez7006 I had replied, but it looks like that reply was deleted or did not post. I am sufficiently familiar with the Doctrine and Covenants and Church History. While Doctrine and Covenants 27 did allow for a substitution for the emblems of the sacrament, the church wide institutional change for the sacrament did not occur until the early 20th century. In 1861 Brigham Young sent 309 Mormon families to settle in Utah's "Dixie" region, where they would produce, among other crops, wine for the sacrament. By the 1870's Church vineyards were producing as much as 3,000 gallons per year. Thank you ladies for these beautiful deeper dive discussions of the WORD of God. As you all continue to press in, please consider the following: Church sacraments are "given" as a metaphor too. Sacraments represent a DEPICTION of the Spiritual reality. So yes, we can continue "practicing'" these depictions of FAITH ... BUT ALSO Jesus says there is a TIME when true worshipers will worship IN TRUTH and Spirit ... so, REMEMBER that we can APPLY that understanding to the LIVING WATERS of our everyday LIFE ... because WE are the living tabernacles. WE are human 'temples'. So, here's an Example: as we GO about our DAY. Say a general COMMENT comes along the way ... this comment may SUDDENLY be transformed, as in Spiritually highlighted by the Holy Spirit ... and TIED in connection to a specific BIBLE verse. What I mean by that, is that the LIVING water of a comment that SPRINGS forth from an EARTHLY comment ... will suddenly ABLAZE in an illuminated WAY that HARKENS us to REMEMBER a KEY passage of scripture. Those mere common words are suddenly transformed into a much HIGHER meaning ... as the LORD uses them to CAPTURE something greater. We suddenly are 'caught up" in the HEARING of something more spiritually profound. THAT is an example of how our Lord TAKES US ... "there" ... in rememberence as HE turns the living WATERS of our life INTO spiritual WINE. It's WHY the BRIDES ... those "Virgins" have to keep the OIL full. In READINESS ... ( read ) the Sacred Word and BE READY to understand more when our BRIDEgroom ... GROOMS us. Our Lord had to depart one WAY... in ORDER for the Holy Spirit to COME. ... and HE comes in the DUE times as we continue to SEEK Him.
@@jameswines6589it's just a word to describe the ordinance that Christ established with his disciples in which he gave them bread and wine as symbols of his flesh and blood, commanding them to do it often, to remind them of the sacrifices he was making for all mankind. Sometimes I think we focus too much on God's love for us instead of focusing on our love for God. If we were driven by manifesting our love/dedication/loyalty to him we get so much further ahead. I would love more explanation of the symbolism tied to the temple, revelations and those Egyptian temples.
we've been spoiled by Dave and Mike pulling the scriptures into frame for today - giving the translations, depth of meaning, and historical perspectives to line it all up. This was more like 2nd hour Sunday school to me. It's not bad, just not what I anticipated. I'm not being a hater, just a lover of the really deep dives that Mike and Dave take. THOSE opened my eyes and the scriptures for deeper independent study.
Don't get me wrong--Dave and Mike are great, but they don't convey the full measure of beauty that is inherent in the gospel as well as these Sisters. I don't think your comment was meant to be a men vs. women thing, but more of a preference in the approach. Since the world is caught up in a shallow, superficial portrayal of material beauty, I appreciate and support the opportunity to see articulate women discussing meaningful gospel topics instead of ephemeral fashions, etc. This is the best exposition on living water that I have come across. During Covid, I became intrigued about living water through Dave's book, "Plain and Precious Things." In Chapter 2 he writes: "Again, I don’t know what the rod was in a tangible, physical sense-a possibility presents itself a little later, but it remains a possibility only-any more than I know what the waters were, but over and over, we look to temple texts and find those items there." I have been drawn to learn more about living water ever since. Some see living water in the creation story. One early application of it may connect back to the garden. From Wikipedia, under "ritual washing in Judaism": Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan in Waters of Life connects the laws of impurity to the narrative of the garden. According to Genesis, Adam and Eve had brought death into the world by eating from the Tree of Knowledge. Kaplan points out that most of the laws of impurity relate to some form of death (or in the case of niddah the loss of a potential life). One who comes into contact with one of the forms of death must then immerse in water which is described in Genesis as flowing out of the Garden of Eden (the source of life) in order to cleanse oneself of this contact with death (and by extension of sin)." We see echoes in baptism. Might there be some sort of symbolism in Pharoah's daughter naming the baby who would one day deliver Israel, Moses, because “I drew him out of the water” (Exod 2:10)? Interestingly, I think Moses also met his future wife at a well. From Jewish Encyclopedia, "Isa. xii. 3: 'Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation' (Suk. 48b). [Remember, Yeshua literally means salvation.] "The treatise Sukkah tells us the water offering was a plea for abundance during Israel's rainy season," which begins in the fall (comp. R. H. i. 2, 16a; Ta'an. 2b)." I even love this podcast's timing--fall. During the water pouring ritual, people gathered at the Temple’s Court of the Women and sang praises called the Hallel: Psalms 113-118. A platform was built in the temple courtyard for women to witness the festivities. Living water is such an appropriate topic to introduce a platform that features women. We now not only get to see and hear, but also be represented with a greater fulness in gospel thought and approach. Thank you, Stick of Joseph.

This pattern repeats in SO many ways! Jesus had the general group of followers, the 70 ish group of disciples, the 12 and certain women close to Him, all the way up to the 3 closest! Progression, and we get to pick our level, so to speak. Not everyone is comfortable being close (then, now, and future).
In the first few verses of the Book of Revelation, the Apostle John states that he is writing concerning that which must shortly come to pass. He is writing to someone living in his day concerning things about to happen in the near term; i.e. in that person's lifetime. He is not writing concerning things to occur 1700-1800 years later. Yes, when one skips around, and finds verses to their liking, one can make the Book of Revelation say what they want it to say.

Latter-day Saints used wine off and on until prohibition. When we could make it we would use it. The twelve even used it for sacrament in the salt Lake temple until then... so, maybe not as you think. That's okay, though. This is a great podcast!
@@colt40fly are you asking a question? "When we could make it [for sacramental purposes] we would..." The 12 and 1st pres. Partake of the sacrament (another name for communion) in the temple, yes. Are you shocked that Joseph or other apostles consumed alcohol for this purpose before prohibition?
@@jasonhardman1770 They drank way more wine than just the sacrament in the temples. They used to drink for hours. Calling that partaking the sacrament every time they went to the temple is a convenient stretch of history. I’m not shocked at all, even when they drank enough to get drunk in the temples.
In the Gospel of John there are a set of 6 stories, three sets of two stories. In the first story of each set, someone comes to Jesus. In the second story of each set, Jesus comes to them. In the first set Nicodemos comes to Jesus. In the second story Jesus comes to the woman at the well. In the second set, a Nobleman comes to Jesus to ask Jesus to heal his son. In the second story Jesus comes to a man at the Pool of Bethesda. In the third set five thousand people come to Jesus, and are fed. In the second story Jesus comes to 12 scared men on the sea of Galalee, and he calms the sea. My take on what John is saying...all who come to Jesus will be fed. All who believe in Jesus will be saved.
Revelation 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. David Butler pointed out that "fine" clothing in the Old Testament is temple clothing. I love this verse when you read it with that understanding.
44:00 you asked why we don't partake of the wine... not only did an engaged couple separate for a year, they also did not drink any alcohol for that year either. So I believe that we don't drink alcohol because we are in the engagement time frame, where you just pointed out that Christ promises to not drink until the marriage.
Thanks for the video. To those listening, the best book on John's Revelation I have read is from BYU press, The Revelation of John the Apostle by Richard D. Draper and Michael D. Rhodes. Well worth the time it takes to read over 800 pages.
While serving as a senior missionary for the church. I challenged my lifelong belief that we are living on a spinning ball. Andrea, I challenge you to deep dive into this as well. You must get unbiased sources, and they are hard to find, but even the Bible substantiates in many places, that we live on a flat firmament with waters above the heavens and waters below. All water seeks its level. There is no such thingas curved water. If gravity is what holds the water down to the earth, how is it that a drop of water can hang suspended from a plant? There are so many common sense answers thst challenge the "science" weve been indoctrinated with. My whole paradigm has changed. Everything is illuminated and its quite liberating to see the truth!

I find it interesting that you guys make so many comparisons to Nephi/Lehis vision and Revelation 22 without actually making the jump to treating them as different parts of the same vision. If you’re concerned about comparing the great and spacious building to the New Jerusalem I recommend you compare the origin of the water of life in both visions and the location of the Tree of life outside the city at the end of Ezekiel.

I loved the first interview, and I'm loving this too. Thank you for this.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! It’s truly an answer to my prayers to more fully understand the temple and its purpose and symbols. Please keep these coming!!!
Fantastic! I'm so excited Andrea is getting her own line of podcasts on your channel, great job y'all!
Love it! Stick of Joseph has been amazing and this makes it even more amazing! 😊
This is a great addition to the channel. I love it!
What an awesome idea! Glad Sister Andrea is doing this! A pretty decent appetizer before the book arrives!
Andrea is a spiritual gangster and I'm here for it
You three are awesome, thanks for sharing! Keep it coming!
This is so good! Thank you for this enlightening episode and I look forward to more from this group along with regular Stick of Joseph episodes.
Thank you for letting her speak. And giving her segment on here. Unlike some other channel that had her on who didn’t let her get a word out.
Awesome! Love the podcast!
I really loved this! I'm learning so much! Thank you, Andrea! Thank you, Stick of Joseph!!!❤❤❤
Yay!! I’m so glad she is making a book!

Thank you.
YESSSSS. This is amazing! So excited!
A Stick of Joseph segment diving deeper with Andrea?! Best news ever! Thanks to all for giving such a great production; I'm anxiously looking forward to more.
Thank you so much. Their knowledge is so important. I am learning sooooo much from them. Thank you very much.
Love Andrea… Yes been to Egypt with Bruce Porter! Amazing!!!
Glad I found you. We have added you to our 3 other favorites!❤
So excited for this and future Dive Deeper episodes!!! THANK YOU Andrea and Stick of Joseph!

Awesome job everyone! So excited for this segment of the channel to continue 🎉
White, anciently, represents victory such as the general riding in on the White horse after victory. Red was often the symbol of purity. We think differently today, but it's important to remember that symbols that we are often thinking about have been around a very long time.
Thank you! I’ve been listening to the new added hymn Come, Lord Jesus by BYU choir, which reminds me of Revelation 22. Things are coming together
Yeeyuhhh let’s go! Cannot wait to dive into this with ya’ll, scriptures open ready to roll!

Wonderful conversation! ❤️☀️
Such a great discussion!❤
Absolutely loved this! Please keep it up.😊
I'm glad Andrea is getting more air time!
In 1861, families sent by Brigham Young to Utah's "Dixie" would produce crops including vineyards for the purpose of sacramental wine and by the next decade Church vineyards were producing as much as 3000 gallons a year.

It wasn't until July 5, 1906 that the First Presidency and Twelve substituted water for wine in the sacrament in their temple meetings and the general membership would soon follow. Thank you ladies for these beautiful deeper dive discussions of the WORD of God.
As you all continue to press in, please consider the following:
Church sacraments are "given" as a metaphor too.
Plain and Precious Publshing will put Deseret Book out of buisness
No it won’t. If it gets too big, the church won’t sell scriptures to plain and precious publishing to sell. Desert book is always going to be around.
Deseret is turning into a desert @dustin3025
@@dustin3025why do the Mormons keep saying sacrament that's not in the Bible
@@jameswines6589it's just a word to describe the ordinance that Christ established with his disciples in which he gave them bread and wine as symbols of his flesh and blood, commanding them to do it often, to remind them of the sacrifices he was making for all mankind. The word "sacrament" isn't used in the Bible, but neither is the word Bible😂
@@jameswines6589 I really like your question, because I had to think of a good way to respond. I really appreciate danielfloyds answer and want to take it a little further. A list of words that other Christians use that are not in the bible include: Halo, Rapture, Discipleship, Trinity, Christian, Christianity and as said before, Bible.
Fantastic discussion, thanks so much for sharing.
Sometimes I think we focus too much on God's love for us instead of focusing on our love for God. If we were driven by manifesting our love/dedication/loyalty to him we get so much further ahead.
I would love more explanation of the symbolism tied to the temple, revelations and those Egyptian temples.
Egyptian temples have nothing to do with LDS temples.
we've been spoiled by Dave and Mike pulling the scriptures into frame for today - giving the translations, depth of meaning, and historical perspectives to line it all up.
@@ccversions9882 I'd be concerned about your response *IF* you had said it was a man v woman comment. I compared content and delivery styles. Thank you for the added info, I haven't finished all the David's earlier works...but they're right there in the stack.

I was waiting when she started talking about the Egyptian temples and going through them, and then she abruptly stopped after she said something about high graphics that were carved on the wall, which translated, anybody who had received their endowments in the temple would recognize and she just dropped it there I was waiting for her to give us a verbal tour of the whole temple. ❤ this new segment!!
Loved this - thank you!
This was an amazing discussion. Don’t feel obligated to insert yourself.
Thank you for sharing ❤

Can you imagine the surprise at that great and last day, when all the good and honest folks, and they who knew no law, are all lifted up, for the day will be tolerable for them, but can you imagine their surprise when they see who the Bride really is, that she is the covenant-keeping disciples of Christ from all dispensations, and most surprisingly, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that very church and people whom these guests had ignored, mocked, and rejected.
Thanks for the knowledge. I have learned lots from the podcast with the guys and now Andrea.
In the Book of Revelation, God’s Holy Word, it tells you who the Bride is.
Two years ago I started my own deep dive into the temple and deepening my relationship with God, Jesus and all things holy. Latter-day Saints used wine off and on until prohibition. When we could make it we would use it. The twelve even used it for sacrament in the salt Lake temple until then... so, maybe not as you think. That's okay, though. This is a great podcast!
Joseph Smith and other apostles used to drink wine in the temple.
