Quick tip for Single Skinned Tents, Hang a Micro Fibre towel(or 2) in tent, they will absorb the moisture from your breath at night, trust me it works for my Hiking tents, Good review Mate.
Thanks for taking the time to do the review...it was very helpful as it looks like this tent takes on many different brand names so applicable to all. The ladder recommendation is excellent! :-)
I would personally replace the Quick release nuts holding the tent down with nylocs. The tent doesn't come off your set up, so quick removal isn't a priority. And if you do head north, you'd hate to have the tent rattle off! The tracks up there can be insanely rough! Nylocs are king! 😉
I've had this tent for a couple of years and had similar issues. I replaced those original hand nuts with nylons and some 308 washers (no need to check ever again) And for the rubbing by the ladder, I bought a 1mX1m peice of astro turf. I use it at the bottom of the ladder when I use the tent. Looks good, soft on feet and can clean feet aswell. When I pack up, I place upside down then place ladder on top. It has stopped the rubbing and damages caused by the ladder. Overall bloody good little tent and great review 😊
May be able to help you with the ladder issue. What I do is, I clip the ladder into the two brackets the are used to hold the ladder when you are getting into the tent. I clip the ladder with the legs facing into the tent. The clips keep it in place and stop it moving around inside the cover. Happy to send you a picture to show you. Cheers
Greetings from Geraldton mate, Just watching your video and thought that I might comment as we go. Still to choose our choice of rooftop tent and obviously doing my research on good old UA-cam. 1. Have you considered or possibly know of anyone that might have put nyloc locking nuts behind the manufacturers fastening system.? That would certainly give me peace of mind when travelling on corrugated roads like ummmm The Gibb River Road!! (which we are doing during June 22) 2. How noisy? Flapping noises in the middle of the night when camping whether in our swag, Instantup tent or even our caravan (which we have since sold), generally to me involves money and all I see is $50 notes as I wonder what is being destroyed. 3. The flyscreen damage caused by the ladder, possibly get a canvas duffle or gear bag? to store the ladder in to prevent any damage to anything, even your sleeping bag. 4. You talked about your roof racks too mate. In your opinion would 2 racks be enough to support the tent, possibly shortening the distance between them forward & rear? My canopy is similar to yours at 2100 long, not sure of the width off the top of my head. Keep up the great work mate & maybe we will see you on the road someday in the big and beautiful Western Australia. regards Brett n Ja
Mate! Amazing video! I think I am gonna get this one! But I got few questions: 1. I now got a Subaru Impreza and I think the weight actually holds onto the car fine. But if I upgrade my car to say Subaru Outback or a Toyota 4wd, can I reuse this tent to move it onto the top of the new car (with new set of roof racks of course)? 2. For the flapping etc during high wind conditions, Ive heard complaints about this being noisy. So if not this tent which one would you suggest 3. Which one is better? The foldout tents or the one that stays almost on top of a car? With foldout tents I dont want half of my body to be outside the footprint of the car 😂
I bought one it had a bent frame and snapped in that very spot first pull down anaconda warranted it no questions asked but having seen that I would not put kayak on top cheers great review
Hey 333krikri , I have a Koleos too and would be very curious know how you got on with this? I have been worried that the racks may not be far enough apart - can you let me know what year it is?
thanks for the follow up video, my question was about dust, and lots of it, the dust you do encounter up north but you did say, yet to test that out. i did see someone said to run a flat washer and lock nut over the mounting bracket screws to stop them loosening off.
I have the same tent. Dust doesn't get into the tent, but it does get the underbelly. I've driven easily 1000km of dirt roads and only found dust underneath, never inside the tent. This is because the cover wraps around the tops and sides. Hope this helps 😊
Notice you don't use the Dune awning? Can I ask why? I got the rooftop tent, thanks for video 1, but I am now researching the awning. Thanks for the tips.
Hi Ariana, basically I was already ordering a few other bits and pieces from 4wd supacentre (deflator, DCDC charger etc) so it was cheap to add the kings awning to the order. That being said it’s just a temporary solution so I wasn’t too fussed on quality, planning on a 270 awning in the near future just didn’t have the budget at the time
@@explorebound Hey thanks heaps for the reply. Thought about getting a 270 too, but atm looking for cheaper option and the Dune one is $99 so I think I will go with that.Tip of a new one, maybe some tips on how to buy drawers, with the fridge and everything! I am planning to build one for my trail. Thanks again and keep up with videos!
Mate these videos are perfect. I have been doing my fair share of research and settled on these tents or the dune hard shell version anyway just waiting on stock to come in. Seeing your comment about the kayak on top has made me lean more towards this variety over the hard shell with racks now. Thanks a lot for the piece of mind and great reviews
Further to this, picked up the tent today and noticed in the manual now it now advises against storing the ladder under the pvc cover and storing in the car where possible. But your solution looks good
Hey mate, really glad to hear the review was useful! Good to know regarding the manual update for ladder storage too. Best of luck with the tent mate, hope it serves you well!
I just bought a 140cm and it had pin sized holes right above the roof air vent in line with the strap. Waited for a week for more stock to come in and get a replacement but the next two tents they opened had worse holes on the roof. So I kept the original tent as the holes were slightly more acceptable. Anaconda gave me some vinyl patches and sent me on my way. Not 100% happy about it but hey all three had holes from factory through transit to the store. It does seem that the strap probably rubbed the holes in.
Hi Russell, I filmed this at Whitehills Beach but to be honest it’s not worth the trip, extremely corrugated from people not letting there tyres down - always makes for a very bouncy ride in haha.
I actually installed the awning after the tent so didn’t encounter that scenario, although I don’t imagine it would pose too many issues as there’s a decent amount of room underneath to reach under 🙂
can the packed size be smaller if the bedding was out of the tent or is there something physically blocking it from folding further down? I'm asking due to my garage having 2.1m limit and I need it to be somewhere between 20-23cm when packed down...
Awesome reviews mate, I'm definitely gonna get myself one, just not sure what size yet! do you regret not getting the 140cm width version? If not, why?
If my canopy was a bit wider, I would have gotten the 140 for sure, I reckon the extra cost would be well worth it - I worked out that the 140 would overhang 5cm each side which is why I opted for the 120. I'd say measure your roof width and if it's wider than 154cm (that's the external width of the 140) then I'd go with the bigger one. If not, me and my partner find the 120 fine, just not much extra room.
Hi, have you ever looked into purchasing the annexe that goes with the tent? We've been looking to add it on but its quite pricey and I can't find any reviews or videos on it!
Hi Michael, it's held up against some crazy rain with no issues at all. It suffers from condensation the same as most tents, however there's a few vents built in to help with that.
Hi mate, thanks for the videos, all very helpful. I'm considering a similar setup to yours with a MRT canopy but mounting the tent directly to the roof without the roof racks. Obviously would still need the internal support system. Do you think this would work with the clips for the cover or do you need to be able to access underneath? Cheers, Brad.
Hi Brad, that's a very well timed question as I've been looking into doing this myself! With my new suspension going in next week I don't think I'll be able to fit into my garage with how it is at the moment. Unfortuntely most of the straps are clipped in and tightened underneith the tent meaning you would need enough room to get in, do up the straps and tighten. I'm still brainstorming solutions as I'd love to keep the tent, but if I can't get it to work I'll have to swap it for a hard-shell.
Thanks for your quick reply. I just purchased the 140 today. It would seem the 120 is not available in Australia. I have a similar set up to your canopy and the smaller would have been more suitable. Keep up the great reviews mate.
Hey mate I know you may not have this tent anymore, but I was wondering if you ever had an issue where when packed away, one side would be higher than the other. Obviously there are the poles and stuff on that side but in the video it seems that the whole thing is flat? I'm pulled it down as far as it'll go, ive only got sleeping bag and doona in there which shouldnt stop it closing flat..
Hey mate, yeah it might not show up too well in the video but we found the side that the poles collapse down to always sat higher than the other side. You can minimise this a bit putting all your bedding, pillows, ladder etc on the other side but still sits a bit uneven I'm afraid.
@@explorebound no problem thanks for the reply. I assumed it would always be uneven since theres the 3 poles on that side and none on the other. Although mine is very noticeable, ill try to move the matress and bedding towards the door more. Cheers
Hi, Gday, thanks for the video reviews. We are looking at camping outback Qld. Wonder why you have a RTT vs a traditional tent, is this because of snakes, crocs etc? We will be 3 PAX, so will be tight fit in a RTT vs a traditional tent and use a roof rack for storage / fuel etc. Many thanks!. James M
Hi mate, the main reason was setup time, takes me about a minute to set the tent up from start to finish and the bed is already setup inside too. Also saves a bunch of space not having to pack a tent, matress, bedding etc in the car.

@@explorebound excellent, thanks for the reply! Been thinking about getting this to wack on my Forester seems to be a good Rooftop tent at that price
Hi mate…great vids…has the strap used to pull the tent down shown any signs of wearing holes in the rain fly as yet?
Not at all, the only wear was the ladder rubbing but the new storage method has helped that
