I’ve just sold all my outboard as I use exclusively plugins for mixing and pedals for guitar but this does bring me back. Nothing better than having a big fridge of effects!
I think also one of the drivers for me selling everything was the repairability of the rack units, at some point parts will just not be available/repairable.
Awesome stuff mate. Awesome. When you've seen them all...all the home studio shysters on youtube...this is a breath of fresh air. Straight up real talk.
Nice Review. Got the Tc fireworx waited 18 years to get it lol, Got the h9 max eventide to and might get the h90 great peace of gear. Thank for the review
Cheers Matt, enjoyed that, i never really thought about the journey untill i looked at my studio rack gear, and realized all the stuff i have also been through and got rid of just to get the sound im after and the stuff that has stayed in the racks for the longest really does shape your thoughts on sound textures, some stuff i have kept purely because i have used them on tracks and i don't want to wast my time on finding a software replacement for it that sounds the same, as a musician that time could be better spent on creating music than looking up specs for any alternative software, i think if you have gear you are use to, why change it ? all in the name of "its better" ? i don't get it, i don't think ANYTHING made to day is "Better" than any thing made in the 80s/90s, different maybe... i get that, but definitely not "better" my advice to anyone who wants to create music is..... for gods sake ignor all the gear snobs ! , just get hold of what you can and create ! i have a guy who lives by me who has a studio, he has this new software reverb, that new top class pre amp, and can talk Db levels and tec till your eyes bleed, so i asked him to send me something he has done.. his reply ?? ohh i just dabble ! ! FFS ! and i find a lot of that going on, bragging rights etc, it makes me puke. when we went into a studio in the 90s or even 80s not once did we ask what pre amps were in the desk, and yet there are tons of songs all recorded all about that time that still sound amazing, i think this push for perfection in sound is making the software companies who bring out a newer better pre amp every 6 months is just making a big fist full of cash out of home studios, and turning musicians into tec heads with very little gain in sound quality as opposed to having just a great song recorded on something thats 30 years old. so, i stand by my advice of just get something that you can get your ideas down, enjoy what you have, learn to use it and don't get sucked in to the "newer is better" because its not, its just different ! Good songs will always be good songs no matter what its recorded on. and when you send that demo to any label or record company, they will hear that right away, if the song is crap it will go in the bin no matter how much you have spent on it. and the same applys if you are releasing it yourself.
Great comment. Thank you. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I’m not sure how many would be music makers appreciate how insidious gear marketing can be. Question everything! 👍
Although the M3000 is high quality synthetic reverb, you can achieve very similar results with a convolution reverb like Space Designer, or another synthetic reverb plug-in like a Lexicon native algorithm. If you’re using small to medium rooms almost any decent plug-in will work. 👍
@MattOttewill interesting. I have a few decent plugins that I use, and I really need to try the lexicon bundle, but I've found that they are never quite the sound I want regardless the brand, preset, or tweak. A few months ago, I bought a tc electronic m one xl and found it to sound better than all the plugins I have, including seventh heaven. I want something that puts the audio into a nice room without shoving the fact in my face, and the m3000 seems to do that, whereas ther lexicon is a more in your face type of effect (or so I hear). The idea is that the lexicon plugins are said to sound identical to the hardware at a fraction of the cost and hassle of use. I wonder if there is an equivalent for the m3000... I'll probably just buy the real thing, then I know what is what. Thanks for the input
Big 19'' racks cabinets are not fancy anymore, tiny table top things are the trend now and I deeply regret this. Real men have racks. Period. 👨🏼🦳 Jocking aside it's always nice to hear how lucky we're nowadays with tons of easy to use cheap tools. In the 80s, well, it was tougher! A spring reverb (I still have my old Torque bought second hand), a sequencer, sometimes a 4 track cassette recorder... I realy wait for your next videos, mate (I imagine other outboard fxs, synths, samplers, mixing desks, etc....)
I love my Pro R3. The pre-effect EQ on the front is a dream for dialing in the classic 70's sound on plates :)
Couldn't agree more. Simple and brilliant feature 👌

You definitely need to be handy with repairs. I should make a video about all the repairs I’ve or CV others have made!
Respect! Thank you for sharing. I wished I saved all my music equipment.

Thanks. Appreciate it 👍
Loving these videos! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing! What great toys you have!
That’s exactly what hat they are! 😊

Thanks. If you buy an H9 core cheap on eBay, your max license can be used with it for free! You can do this for 3 H9s. Check Eventide's site.
Can't wait for the next video!
THANKS, MATT!
Awesome collection! Would you rather take one of the yamahas over say a tc m2000?
Thanks for your comment. The M3000 is great but plug-ins can do what it does now, so I'd definitely keep the REV500. Love that device!
Lovely! Do you remember what you paid for the M3000 back in the days?
Cheers from Sweden!
Thanks for the comment. Can't remember how much the device was, but we do remember it was ex-display so heavily discounted!

How much per hour does it cost to work at your studio?
Thanks for the share. What plugin would you use to replace the tc m3000?

Imagine having all this gear and having the audio quality of a submarine radio...
Beware or G.A.S (Gear acquisition Syndrome)
I think it's 40 years too late for this fella
Haven’t managed to kick it yet! 😅
@@MattOttewill I love your setup and philosophy :)
