I loved this discussion. It honestly gave me peace of mind learning that all you really need for a lot of entry-level jobs is just Excel. Although I was learning programming languages like Java, C#, and C++ when I was in college, LONG before I even thought about being an analyst, I thought it was a good idea to try and learn Python or R before "mastering" Excel. Now I'm using Maven to master Excel, then move on to SQL, and I feel like I'm making more progress that way.
