@OlaEnglund I've worked very physical jobs off and on my whole life where you're inevitably going to be working days sore af. I came across this book listening to a podcast Becoming A Supple Leopard, the author is one of the most sought after physical therapists in the world. There's stretches and exercises in there to help mobility for pretty much any body part. It's been a game changer for me.

I've got a herniated disc in my neck. Been on painkillers for years and I'm due to have an operation to fix it in the next couple of months. I feel your pain brother, those things are no joke. Hope you're feeling better. Just be careful.

I first discovered the band P.O.D. when I first watched the comedy movie *Little Nicky* back in the early 2000s when I was a kid, and still love listening to them!

Dime's solo on We'll Meet Again is so underrated
Greeting Sir Ola from the desolate wasteland known as upstate New York! First off that opening riff was downright brutal and brilliant! That being said I wanna touch base on your physical health concerns with your back and hip. I’m a 31 year old guy who has undergone spinal surgery on both my upper spine (fusion of 6 discs with titanium cage around the spine)… and fusion or two discs in my lower back (L4 and L5 causing sciatica)… good on you for getting it checked man… I myself have a condition called degenerative disc disease causing the cartilage and fluid around my spinal cord and discs to slowly wear away… I currently do not take pain meds as I was addicted to them for over six year (almost three years in recovery) just know you’re not alone in the fight of chronic pain and such. It ruins days sometimes and has caused me to have to leave work and opt out of many family events and adventures. It can be physically exhausting but also mentally exhausting as well. Please don’t let it get to the point where I was at sir. It took a lot of willpower, patience and just outright hatred for myself for how bad I let my addiction go… but with three kids and a wife… I had to get better. I would suggest physical therapy and chiropractic care as much as possible in order to keep yourself from having to go under the knife like I did (2 spinal surgeries and FOUR shoulder reconstruction surgeries) I wouldn’t wish that life on my worst enemy. All that being said… good on you for recognizing you needed help and getting it when you did. Sunday with Ola is a part of my routines on Sundays and I myself, as I’m sure many other would be very upset and sad if you were to have to take a hiatus from your channels because of chronic pain and everything that goes along with it. I manage to get through my day with plenty of exercise (avid trout fisherman) and the plethora of METALtastic gear I’ve acquired (most of which reviewed and approved by you yourself) and my amazing family. With the support of all of us who follow you and adore you… and the love and support of your personal friends and family… take it from someone who’s suffered for over a decade with similar issues… you’ll push through it and make it out a better person. MUCH LOVE from myself and I will be anxious to hear your progression with your physical health! P.S….. I’ve received a CHUG pedal from a close friend of mine… and let me just say now… besides my REVV G3 purple pedal… that pedal is by far the best I own so far. Pairs perfectly with my Marshall DSL20hr. Love you Ola!

I have the first 4 Pantera albums on vinyl. They were pricey but worth every penny. Power Metal is underrated for sure
I have consistent back pain and more recently hip pain. I dont know but it feels good to know others are suffering and working through it like me.

Glad you're getting some relief for your back, my wife has two herniated disks in her back and it sucks
I can definitely relate to back pain! Same here: herniated discs (upper and lower back) and they can hurt like a mofo... 🤣
Don't rely too much on pain relief - as good as it may feel right now - but talk to your physical trainer or fysiotherapist: they'll have exercises to strengthen the muscles around that area to balance out what caused that slipped disc (an imbalance), and a hernia can, and in most cases will, heal itself.
Use meds when you really need to of course, but awkwardly enough it's good to be fully aware of the level of pain you're in - you'll also be able to feel better which treatment is working long-term!
I've strengthened my back and core considerably with the right help, and at 58 I'm doing fine 🤘😎🤘
Make sure to train the small stabilizing muscles around the spine. Swmming is a great way to train when you have herniated discs (worked wonders for me!). It's so important to have good stability in your back (and in your core in general) so that the herniated disc can heal without getting pinched over and over. Try to avoid bending down to pick up stuff, carry heavy items (like amps), and doing stuff like running, jumping, skating, shoveling snow and even headbanging (could be difficult if you have live shows to perform). It is possible to recover 100% from herniated discs, but you have to careful to not make it worse while at the same time actively doing stuff that helps with stabilizing your spine.
Hey Ola, I can relate to your back problems as I have gone through them since my 20s (I'm now 43). I went through surgery, pain killers (what a good name for an album it would make!..), physicists, therapists, etc. The sad truth is it will only get worse as you age and ultimately it is more about listening to your body and learning to deal with pain without making the cure worse than the problem. You're a smart guy, you'll figure it out if not already. Nice guitar in the intro, I have one of the same, one of my favs, il is killer in drop C! Cheers.

I feel your pain, about 10 years ago I had 3 herniated disks and could hardly sit down. After many trips to the chiropractor he was able to work the disks back in but I did end up with permanent nerve damage in my foot.

I highly recommend the Mudvayne albums "L.D. 50", "The End of All Things to Come" and "Lost and Found". Singer Chad Gray is also the lead vocalist for Hellyeah with former Pantera and Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul.

Take care of that back. I broke mine, had surgery. Yoga stretches, ice packs and an inversion table keep me from going back to the doctor. Love the Swola shows, peace and metal!

I herniated a disc in my lumbar spine about a year and a half ago! I never took any drugs, just a strict daily stretching routine and the pain goes away and stays away. It's such a pain in the ass (back) to deal with, but it's better than surgery 👍🏼

I still have all of Pantera's early stuff on Cassettes. Amazing stuff! I was listening to those before Cowboys From Hell came out! I wish they would have played some of those early songs even after they hit it big.
I got to see one of Ozzy's final shows in his no more tours 2 run in Denver, Colorado. You could tell his age held him back, but he still put on an amazing show. I'm super happy to have seen him live while I had the chance and wish nothing but the best for him ❤

I used to suffer from sciatica, but I don't any longer because I now have an inversion table. But if you get one, don't go full invert right away. You have to work your way up to it or else you might pull some muscles. But I hope you recover soon man, I know that shit sucks!

Ola, talking about all of your brilliant ideas and stuff, I think you should do a Metal In Public series, it would be really nice to see the streets of Sweden and the reaction of locals to some of the heaviest riffs in the universe (got that reference?) 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Something that can help when you feel your disc bulging some or out of place..is laydown on a towel or slightly rolled shirt.. then bring your arms out above your head ect and roll your back, back and forth till it pops or goes into place.. let it rest alil then stand up.. if its pinching pain ect it might go away.... It helps me but may not for everyone.. my pain is just below my shoulderblades section.. and i have 3rd vert degeneration at the base of my neck.. it has over weeks/months mostly eliminating the pinching pains.. You can do the same just above your hip to gain a lil relief, not to pop it but to give a lil pull to relive pressure momentarily.
Ha ha cool, Projects In the Jungle is the only Pantera vinyl I own. Bought it from the band at a record store signing in Fort Worth back when it came out, and yes it is autographed by the band. Welcome to the club

@olaenglund I also have a herniated L4/5 originally caused by weightlifting. Saw a ton of doctors and alternative care practitioners, but only one was correct: you have to stay active and keep moving in a healthy way every day. Don't stop moving, stretching, exercising. For me, easy vinyasa yoga, rock climbing, and hiking (with a proper fitting backpack) help the most. Also stop squatting or deadlifting with weights in the gym. No heavy weight into your spine. My back feels great most days now except a couple times a year I can have moderate pain for a week or so. No surgery, no drugs. Stay active, stretch, be kind to your back, and you can heal it! Two more ideas @olaenglund: get a really hard mattress, and use a lumbar pillow in every chair (office chair, car, airplane, etc). These also really help my back heal.

I've got that disks problems in my back too.... Been living taking low level narcotics for 8 years, and. . I cope...some days are worse than others... Tramadol and naproxen... Like a half a Percocet... Not quite. But I get enough to ease the pain on the rough Days

Hey Ola if you have a herniation you should look into a procedure call Microdiscectomy. I literally just had it done on 9/15/23 ...stay away from painkillers unless you REALLY need it. No medication or PT will help a herniated disk. I already feel great. Love your work!

P.O.D. has actually been making music the whole time. Years ago they acquired the guitarist from Living Sacrifice who was also the vocalist but I don't think he sings for P.O.D. at all. As a result the collab with Randy Blithe doesn't surprise me as much. :)

Dude. I totally get the back /hip issues. The only thing that helps me is getting a chiropractic adjustment. The relief I get is amazing and I can sleep!
