Among my videos this one about Vladivostok is the most watched. Is it because this city is so popular with foreigners? Interesting observation, so here I can say that Vladivostok wins over Khabarovsk. (5 times more views!). But the video about Khabarovsk is interesting too, just saying.. :)
When I saw that North Korea has a border with Vladivostok, I become curious about Vladivostok and searched for it on UA-cam. That's how I found your video. Keep uploading videos tovarishch. ^^

The central government and business owners in Moscow take most money that Far East of Russia away by taxing and collecting dividends so the frustration has grown against them. I learned a good thing.
the Far East of Russia isn't spoken about much in "the west". It's fascinating that this whole area exists, that Russians conquered it so long ago. It's great hearing personal perspectives, especially political ones.

@Orobas Project Where is the shame? It's a beautiful area and she presents a much different image of Russia to the one that is portrayed in the mainstream media constantly in the West. And where is the lie? She is filming a VLOG and giving her opinions on things - nothing wrong with either.
@Orobas Project Whether that's true or not true, I watch her videos, I see an interesting part of Russia that the many outsiders never see. She presents a positive image of the country. That she has her opinions in a country that historically supresses freedom of expression is refreshing. It's also interesting to watch a native Russian, in Russia talk freely about parts of it she doesn't like.

I've been to Vladivostok in December 2020 and I totally fell in love with the city. Unfortunately, there are not many jobs for teachers, otherwise, I'd have moved there. I still hope I can return some day.
Natasha what happened at around 16:00?.. That's the kinda thing I'm curious about, I've lived a short while in Russia and I know how people can act absolutely silly out of nothing (in the street). I'm really curious about what happened. As I get it, you're really not a city girl, you're way better off in small calm cities, that's just how you're cut. I myself come from a big European capital, I love - really love - the countryside but couldn't stay more than 3-4 days in a row (like absolute max 😅😆) Your videos are really interesting, hope you're having fun making them. Don't feel bad about your clothes, you have much more going for you than what you wear. At 21, you've studied abroad a year, visited Hawaii and California. Seen and done more than millions of students here in the US; You're very intelligent, beautiful and have a wonderful presence on camera. Keep doing what you love and you will find the perfect place to grow.

I know if you watch laoway 86, him and Winston traveled the Chinese North Korea border and it was absolutely beautiful in that region and I really want to check it out. She's a naive young Russian with a "grass is greener" complex. She's much better off staying in Vladivostock than moving a s**thole like LA, where she would have to pay $50l/yr to go to college or $2,000/mo for a small room in a part of town where she won't be mugged every month...
@@Citadin The United States treats her weak like a disease. Much of the developed world is different. Not as rich in the extremes but far more caring for those who need it. It will show when AI and robotics pick up and people start loosing the ability to compete for work with machines. Russia is not a bad country but also, far from what is possible in term of administration and infrastructure aso. If you come to America, you need to be strong. If you are not, this country is no place for you. If you want to become strong however, you can just visit most of the wealthier parts of Europe or Japan and see how different systems deal with this issue. They all have their problems but the USA is a country that has embraced selfishness and greed as some of her highest ideals and most people outside of the US will agree, that this is a rather strange basis to form a society above. That’s not to say that all US-Americans think that way but enough to give the statement merit. And while the USA boasts a huge market that has a very similar jurisdiction and few companies that would have to fear actual competition, the world is already catching up as the US fractures along her partisan politics, slowly loosing her international influence. While nothing is written in stone, nor everyone has to live in a shitty apartment in LA if they leave their country to make their luck ;) Sometimes, the grass really is greener on the other side.

Hey, I'm your Argentinian brother. I met hundred of Brazilians in Australia. You can purchase a "cheap" course there in order to be granted a visa. When it's about to expire, you can get another one. They do that and stay in Australia forever. Also, check about Estonia. You can enter the country as a tourist, look for a job, if you get it, you can legally stay. There're many options, sometimes we're just misinformed. Don't give up!
@@attilathehun181 Do you realize that literally the same job is paid 10 times worse in Latam region compared to Europe for example? This has great impact for affording imported goods of any type that are made and priced for high income (europe, US, Japan, Canada, whatever). If you live in one of these you can afford anything on this planet easily, otherwise you have to work 10x the time if not more to afford something similar. You get a brand new and modern car in europe with 1 year's worth wage, in Brazil you'll probably afford only a motorbike with the 1 year's worth wage.

I've always imagined Russia based on Moscow and nearby cities. Its amazing to see other areas, the fusion of soviet structures within todays Russia, lifestyle etc. your channel is amazing, I literally got a whole new perspective about Russia and Russian people. Good work.

As an American, I constantly find these types of vlogs very insightful. Humanity around the world is pretty much the same. It's just the powers above never seem to have humanities best intentions.
The problem is that the powers that be are determined by old people,like me. We tend to be blind to the dreams and frustration of the young and afraid of the changes that are needed to make the world better.
It is much more complicated than that. The people above represent a good proportion of the people below. Also the above and below difference is not as well defined as we often make it out to be.
Yeah man some parts of Vladivostok could fit right into Poland, the architecture is eerily similar to my town. It's crazy to think that Russians put a European city right next door to Korea.
Been to Delhi ..... it’s a shithole of a place ..... whole families hanging off the back of a motorcycle and living under a carpet over a rope tied up between two trees or posts .... the poverty is appalling and the gap between the rich and the poor is obscene, Highway Code is nonexistent and driving without a hired local driver is extremely dangerous.
@@solvingpolitics3172 exciting but dangerous, the sights (except for the poverty everywhere) sounds and people were amazing, the Taj Mahal exceptionally so, but the dirt,dust and general rubble was around everywhere we went. And most of the people taking a piss anywhere in the streets was very off putting in broad daylight, I know that this also happens in our countries but it’s usually the drunken larger louts and such in the city and town centres to which I must confess I don’t really frequent much these days.

Sorry to hear from your money troubles! Since I live in the poorest region of Spain, I can definitely relate to your issues - we have here the highest unemployment rates, around one fifth of all employable people, so to speak... but among the young adults (say, 25 years old or less) it's far more tragic - more than half of them are unemployed! I consider myself to be very lucky, as I managed to find (and so far, keep) a good job, but I have so many friends who struggle day to day to earn some money. That's why so many people in my region depend on some kind of Goverment subsidies to simply keep on living, and many young adults cannot leave their parent's home to became truly independent.

@@Robert89349 There is a little part of land separate from the main body of Russia. Kaliningrad is a city in that region. However I haven’t seen any border between Turkey and Russia.
@@alvinclitar631 Yeah it's pretty amazing how close Japan and Korea is to Russia. From Hokkaido I believe you can actually see parts of the kuril islands (which, depending on who you ask, is either part of russia or Japan).
I remember once i flew from Copenhagen, Denmark to Beijing, China. Once in air we kind of relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. When we crossed the border to Russia i noticed to my travel partners to wake me up if they see some MIG fighters and fell asleep. When i woke up several hours later we were still over Russia - and stayed there for several hours to come. Russia is BIG!

Totally agree with you. Just discovered this channel a few days ago and I am fascinated by this well spoken, intelligent young woman. It still amazes me to hear Russians speaking critically of their government. I am not sure that is a good idea. I guess one must be impressed with their courage to do so, especially on UA-cam. I will be looking forward to studying her previous videos to learn more about her impressions of her country.
Don't worry about what type of clothing or how much money you have. Your life experiences will matter much more in the long run. Seeing as how you have traveled quite a bit, and only being 21 years old, I would say that you are on the right track. Hope you have better days ahead.
I’m American and I’ve been to Vladivostok twice. The first time I thought that it would be dull and boring, but to my great surprise, I actually had a wonderful time. It was great! I always tell people that of all of the places that I’ve been to, Vladivostok, surprisingly, is one of the places where I had the most fun. Though there were some sour people, most of the people were actually really nice. Good memories...
Agree and I also need to notice that in the east people are friendlier and kinder, since it's much more diverse than the west, esp Vladivostok is full of asians, always full of tourists and is known as a student city, bc the biggest eastern university is located there, and it's very beautiful!

I can remember the coup against the Ukranian government in 2014...many naive ppl tought that if they overthrow the president supported by Putyin, things gonna improve for the better. Now Ukraine is still the poorest country in Europe, the government is full of foreigners and western spies, the economy is looted by western investors, and the country is striken by enormous emigration to the West and to Russia, too. I was judging that while people were encouraging a young creator with fresh content and a growing channel, you negated that encouragement with a seemingly caring comment about other people but the ultimate affect illustrated was contempt for this creators successful content and channel. With that observation I made of you, and I'm others have too, the majority of people that support these creators will see you as you are, on this subject anyway... a selfish, unhappy and not confident man trying to bring down a shining new talent because you aren't creating popular content, or you aren't even making any good content. When I lived in Orlando, Florida I met one of the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my long life! She was Russian and came from Siberia. The young lady was working at her first job in America - a waitress at Hooters near Disney World on I-Drive. My remark to her was, "Why aren't you in Hollywood?" A real looker, let me tell you, with an expansive unforgettable face - blond hair, deep blue eyes, an excellent figure that was perfect in the Hooter's costume.

This was weird, I live in Budapest, Hungary. The buildings are so similar that you could have walked around in Budapest. Not just the soviet buildings but older historical buildings too.
Yeah, Vladivostok looks like almost every Port city England! What she calls "Soviet High-rise Apartments" we just called "Brutalist architecture" and pretended that we were enjoying the fruits of capitalism. It's amazing how much I believed the official government line before the internet came along (I probably still do, but not to the same extent).
@@1987a-l8b In America they called them "the projects" in NY and Chicago. I'm torn about how I feel about them. On one hand they were and are affordable housing which is in short supply here in the US. On the other hand they functioned as warehouses for people more than homes. But compared to sleeping in tents and garbage bags on the sidewalks and under bridges, I would prefer more of these high rises.

The thing which I just seem to be unable to properly process is that this is just about 50 km (beeline) from China. Those older houses look so European and then there is China with an entirely different culture, North Korea not much further either. This just seems so weired to me.
Actually lot of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cities look quite similar to Vladivostok, with a mixture of European, Soviet, modern, futuristic, and of course traditional style urban landscapes, and also thousand year old historic landmarks. Take a look at videos about Japanese, Korean and Chinese cities. You will find out more.
@@eriksonyw Harbin, China is a really good example of that, where you have what was a rather small village in the late 19th century that turned into a boomtown due to construction of the railroads in the region by the Russians. So the city is heavily influenced by Russian architecture though it is in China.

I think there is only one express train route in Russia - from Moscow to St. Petersburg. All other trains are pretty slow, top speed will be around 90 km/h. Russia is totally not like China with its 350 km/h trains.

I lived in Barnaul for two weeks, it was the best travel destination of my life. The apartments did not look nice on the outside, but inside was very nice. The friendliest people I have ever visited.
@@MrTimodon Its central government. It how it works in most places, including Europe, tax all regions and money then dispensed from the capital. Khanty Mansiyk would be the richest region in Russia without taxation, but that money also supports poorer regions.
Vauxhall actually is a name of the southern distric in London. When Tzar came in to visit british monarch he thought "Vauxhall" is literally the way british do call railway station; hence this term is used in russian language till today.

That's a myth, the reason why the Russian word for 'station' is 'vokzal' is because the place where the first Russian railway station was opened was near the local Vauxhall Gardens (at that point emulating the actual Vauxhall Gardens from the UK was popular among European countries), and the name just kinda stuck from there on.
I've heard a totally different story and I think it's more plausible (I'm not sure that the Tsar ever visited England, just for a start): in the 19th century, Russia was a VERY backwards country compared to Western Europe, like still almost medieval in many respects while Europe was at the height of the Industrial Revolution, but the Tsar wanted to modernize the country. Russia was building its first railways and the Tsar sent a delegation to England, which was the superpower of the time, to study their railways. London had just opened a new train station at Vauxhall and it was the most modern of its time. The Russians were so impressed with it that they couldn't stop talking about it when they came home. Since they wanted Vauxhall Station to be their goal of excellence, the name ended up sticking.
Vauxhall was an entertainment garden in the Kennington area of London in the late 1600s, 1700s and closed in 1859. It featured various performers including tightrope walkers, sideshows, musicians, plays, and almost any type of entertainment. Lots of new venues picked up the name and it's spread to unrelated functions.

I can relate. I live in Miami and it’s not what you see in movies or pictures. It’s one of the poorest cities in America and the famous Miami Beach is expensive and crime ridden. Unless you’re rich, powerful and corrupt there’s not much you can do. It’s a city of hopelessness and I too want to get away from here one day.

My wife was in Kiev when Chernobyl happened so she took her newborn and flew to Vladivostok to escape from the radiation. Just a bit of family history there. My wife's second son was born there. I met her many years later in the USA.
My mom’s cousin used to work in Chernobyl as a scientist. She took a vacation leave a few days before the explosion, she was one of the lucky ones. My mom grew up in Saky. Pretty sure some family members lived in Vladivostok

I think another reason why it's kind of a tougher place to live is that it's a capital and has different zoning and rules. That being said it's not the worst place to live in the US, but D.C. isn't what comes to mind for a place to raise a family lol

Just few words in defense of my hometown) I grew up in Vladivostok and know lots of people here but also bc my work is related to connections with Russian people from diffetent parts of Russia ive noticed that money oriented people basically have same selfish kind of menthality no matter where they live, Moscow, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk etc.. I wouldnt say that majority of Vladivostok people are like this. I have lots of people i know here who make good money and still just live ordinary lifes, having kids, pay their mortages, meet freinds and help each other. And dont be sad bc of fashionably dressed people there haha. If you would go to the Churkin district you'd see there just regularly dressed russian people or even gopniks like those you can meet in Spassk or wherever. You were hanging in downtown, most of those people you saw just work there and kinda have to wear a fashionable clothes. Be patient, after you graduate univesity with your skills you'll be able to get a job with good pay. If that chiropractor thinks people in Vlad are bad....well thats not good for him cuz he came to Vladivostok also looking for a better money. Check out South park season 15 episode 08. When people wanna see only shit around them somehow they start to attract more and more shit to their lives) Be positive, there are lots of good and helpful people everywhere, even in Vladivostok and Moscow;)
Hey! I really liked you commentary. It made me think of the time when I was living in Moscow. I've always found that there's something oppressive about that city. And I absolutely agree with you in that it was definitely not because of the people. They are basically the same as elsewhere. Maybe just a bit more stressed. I would rather say that there are just some places where you don't feel comfortable. It's like some kind of incompatibility on a personal level. Maybe, that's also what the author of the video felt. I don't think anything's wrong with the city itself. In any case, it looked impressive in her video. Hope to see it with my own eyes one day!
I'm Japanese. I see several Russians living and working in Tokyo who almost seem like having migrated to Japan. Probably the problem of Vladivostok or Russia in Far East is that they lack the private industries rather than natural resource development. If they don't have enough attractive jobs, young people will want to leave there.

Russia have to make sure that they withdraw all the Russian troops from Ukraine-Russian border. The reason that Crimea belong to Russia is because the majority people in Crimea are Russians. Japan will accept all the Russian people and give them Japanese nationality in Kurile Islands and in South Sakhalin if Russia give Kurile Islands and South Sakhalin back to Japan. If they want, Japan will pay all the cost for them to move to mainland Russia. Siberia doesn't belong to China. I have a opinion that it was much better for Russian people if Soviet surrendered immediately when Germany invaded into Soviet, like France had surrendered immediately (and Paris had not been destroyed). I'd love to visit Vladivostok, all the old architecture there to see, so beautiful. I'm from Sydney, Australia, so I'm naturally fond of old buildings with old architecture. Russians tell me it's a better city to see than Moscow because Moscow is "too commie".... Vladivostok has that Russian Empire feel about it. Moscow is just Brutalism.

Yeah, sad to hear about the clothes, but it really does not matter and it's ephemeral. Like Really. It is easy to put someone down by commenting his/her outlook, clothes, car, house, but remember WHY people dare to do that. You can do it with anyone. If they are looking "poor" - accuse them of dressing cheap. If they are "rich" - accuse them of not being authentic. And actually Your environment is very rich, You can get loads of things to wear even from the trash. You can have shapes, colors, You have computer and printer so You can decorate things in a way wchich Your grandparents could not even imagine. Over time You will figure out "expressing yourself" is not really worth pursuing most of the time, people expeess too much while they act too little. Expression is the pretending, and actually it is cheap to pretend. For example many women want to look beautifull, but they seldom really mean it, like one is always beautifull only in relation - one is beautifull FOR someone, it is an process, feeling one can induce in another person. Once You realize that You figure out that those who want to experience beauty will pursue it, will actively seek for it and not reject the potential, while those who are not interested or unable to enjoy it will try to destroy it. But then , sure thing we get emotional over weird things, broken glass, dirty street... often not appreciating much important things like freedom , full stomach , abilty to communicate with other people easily - just try to visit some country where people do not know either Russian or English and You will know how much one misses just by not being able to communicate... The central government and business owners in Moscow take most money that Far East of Russia away by taxing and collecting dividends so the frustration has grown against them. I learned a good thing.
the Far East of Russia isn't spoken about much in "the west". It's fascinating that this whole area exists, that Russians conquered it so long ago. It's great hearing personal perspectives, especially political ones.

That she has her opinions in a country that historically supresses freedom of expression is refreshing. As I get it, you're really not a city girl, you're way better off in small calm cities, that's just how you're cut. I myself come from a big European capital, I love - really love - the countryside but couldn't stay more than 3-4 days in a row (like absolute max 😅😆)

That's been my feeling. BTW- I'm from Hayward, California- we are literally in the same area. I loved it, she showed us the true city. She went to Fruitvale. For non-Norcal, Fruitvale is is the low income part of Oakland. I've always wondered what this part of the world is really like.

I know if you watch laoway 86, him and Winston traveled the Chinese North Korea border and it was absolutely beautiful in that region and I really want to check it out. It will show when AI and robotics pick up and people start loosing the ability to compete for work with machines.
Russia is not a bad country but also, far from what is possible in term of administration and infrastructure aso.
If you come to America, you need to be strong. If you are not, this country is no place for you.
If you want to become strong however, you can just visit most of the wealthier parts of Europe or Japan and see how different systems deal with this issue.
They all have their problems but the USA is a country that has embraced selfishness and greed as some of her highest ideals and most people outside of the US will agree, that this is a rather strange basis to form a society above.
That’s not to say that all US-Americans think that way but enough to give the statement merit.
And while the USA boasts a huge market that has a very similar jurisdiction and few companies that would have to fear actual competition, the world is already catching up as the US fractures along her partisan politics, slowly loosing her international influence.
While nothing is written in stone, nor everyone has to live in a shitty apartment in LA if they leave their country to make their luck ;)

Hey, I'm your Argentinian brother. I met hundred of Brazilians in Australia. You can purchase a "cheap" course there in order to be granted a visa. When it's about to expire, you can get another one. They do that and stay in Australia forever. Also, check about Estonia. You can enter the country as a tourist, look for a job, if you get it, you can legally stay. There're many options, sometimes we're just misinformed. Don't give up!

This has great impact for affording imported goods of any type that are made and priced for high income (europe, US, Japan, Canada, whatever). If you live in one of these you can afford anything on this planet easily, otherwise you have to work 10x the time if not more to afford something similar. You get a brand new and modern car in europe with 1 year's worth wage, in Brazil you'll probably afford only a motorbike with the 1 year's worth wage.

As an American, I constantly find these types of vlogs very insightful. Humanity around the world is pretty much the same. It's just the powers above never seem to have humanities best intentions.
The problem is that the powers that be are determined by old people,like me. We tend to be blind to the dreams and frustration of the young and afraid of the changes that are needed to make the world better.
It is much more complicated than that. The people above represent a good proportion of the people below. Also the above and below difference is not as well defined as we often make it out to be.

Sorry to hear from your money troubles! Since I live in the poorest region of Spain, I can definitely relate to your issues - we have here the highest unemployment rates, around one fifth of all employable people, so to speak... but among the young adults (say, 25 years old or less) it's far more tragic - more than half of them are unemployed! I consider myself to be very lucky, as I managed to find (and so far, keep) a good job, but I have so many friends who struggle day to day to earn some money. That's why so many people in my region depend on some kind of Goverment subsidies to simply keep on living, and many young adults cannot leave their parent's home to became truly independent.

I remember once i flew from Copenhagen, Denmark to Beijing, China. Once in air we kind of relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. When we crossed the border to Russia i noticed to my travel partners to wake me up if they see some MIG fighters and fell asleep. When i woke up several hours later we were still over Russia - and stayed there for several hours to come.

Totally agree with you. Just discovered this channel a few days ago and I am fascinated by this well spoken, intelligent young woman. It still amazes me to hear Russians speaking critically of their government. I am not sure that is a good idea. I guess one must be impressed with their courage to do so, especially on UA-cam. I will be looking forward to studying her previous videos to learn more about her impressions of her country.

I’m American and I’ve been to Vladivostok twice. The first time I thought that it would be dull and boring, but to my great surprise, I actually had a wonderful time. It was great! I always tell people that of all of the places that I’ve been to, Vladivostok, surprisingly, is one of the places where I had the most fun. Though there were some sour people, most of the people were actually really nice. Good memories...

Agree and I also need to notice that in the east people are friendlier and kinder, since it's much more diverse than the west, esp Vladivostok is full of asians, always full of tourists and is known as a student city, bc the biggest eastern university is located there, and it's very beautiful!

Yeah, Vladivostok looks like almost every Port city England! What she calls "Soviet High-rise Apartments" we just called "Brutalist architecture" and pretended that we were enjoying the fruits of capitalism. It's amazing how much I believed the official government line before the internet came along (I probably still do, but not to the same extent).

@@1987a-l8b In America they called them "the projects" in NY and Chicago. I'm torn about how I feel about them. On one hand they were and are affordable housing which is in short supply here in the US. On the other hand they functioned as warehouses for people more than homes. But compared to sleeping in tents and garbage bags on the sidewalks and under bridges, I would prefer more of these high rises.

Actually lot of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cities look quite similar to Vladivostok, with a mixture of European, Soviet, modern, futuristic, and of course traditional style urban landscapes, and also thousand year old historic landmarks. Take a look at videos about Japanese, Korean and Chinese cities. You will find out more.
@@eriksonyw Harbin, China is a really good example of that, where you have what was a rather small village in the late 19th century that turned into a boomtown due to construction of the railroads in the region by the Russians. So the city is heavily influenced by Russian architecture though it is in China.

Sometimes hard to comprehend that in Russia one has to travel 5 hours by express train to get to neighboring cities.
I think there is only one express train route in Russia - from Moscow to St. Petersburg. All other trains are pretty slow, top speed will be around 90 km/h. Russia is totally not like China with its 350 km/h trains.

Vauxhall actually is a name of the southern distric in London. When Tzar came in to visit british monarch he thought "Vauxhall" is literally the way british do call railway station; hence this term is used in russian language till today.
Wow! Thats so interesting. Ive been learning Russian for several years and remembered the word воксал by think of Vauxhall cars. I had no idea that they originated from the same place! :D
Kind of makes sense, seeing as it contains the word 'hall'. Vaux could be train.
That's a myth, the reason why the Russian word for 'station' is 'vokzal' is because the place where the first Russian railway station was opened was near the local Vauxhall Gardens (at that point emulating the actual Vauxhall Gardens from the UK was popular among European countries), and the name just kinda stuck from there on.
I've heard a totally different story and I think it's more plausible (I'm not sure that the Tsar ever visited England, just for a start): in the 19th century, Russia was a VERY backwards country compared to Western Europe, like still almost medieval in many respects while Europe was at the height of the Industrial Revolution, but the Tsar wanted to modernize the country. Russia was building its first railways and the Tsar sent a delegation to England, which was the superpower of the time, to study their railways. London had just opened a new train station at Vauxhall and it was the most modern of its time. The Russians were so impressed with it that they couldn't stop talking about it when they came home. Since they wanted Vauxhall Station to be their goal of excellence, the name ended up sticking.
Vauxhall was an entertainment garden in the Kennington area of London in the late 1600s, 1700s and closed in 1859. It featured various performers including tightrope walkers, sideshows, musicians, plays, and almost any type of entertainment. Lots of new venues picked up the name and it's spread to unrelated functions.

I can relate. I live in Miami and it’s not what you see in movies or pictures. It’s one of the poorest cities in America and the famous Miami Beach is expensive and crime ridden. Unless you’re rich, powerful and corrupt there’s not much you can do. It’s a city of hopelessness and I too want to get away from here one day.

My wife was in Kiev when Chernobyl happened so she took her newborn and flew to Vladivostok to escape from the radiation. Just a bit of family history there. My wife's second son was born there. I met her many years later in the USA.
That's a bit of an overkill lol escaping from Kiev to Vladivostok because of Chernobyl.. I visited both cities before 😁
My mom’s cousin used to work in Chernobyl as a scientist. She took a vacation leave a few days before the explosion, she was one of the lucky ones. My mom grew up in Saky. Pretty sure some family members lived in Vladivostok

I saw your presentation on the University life in Khabarovsk first and then have been looking at your other videos as you seem to give a very thoughtful presentation on life and culture that i have seen in few other sources. Also, if i keep listening to you, i might learn the Cyrilic letters and the proper pronunciation of Russian. Thank you so much and keep up the good work. I think that Vladivostok is a wonderful fusion of all the cultures that surround it, but it was wonderful to see your eyes on the ground approach and see the cultural people and little byways and things and the discussion of the political climate which a student would have concerns about as it is also part of the future. I think another reason why it's kind of a tougher place to live is that it's a capital and has different zoning and rules. That being said it's not the worst place to live in the US, but D.C. isn't what comes to mind for a place to raise a family lol

Just few words in defense of my hometown) I grew up in Vladivostok and know lots of people here but also bc my work is related to connections with Russian people from diffetent parts of Russia ive noticed that money oriented people basically have same selfish kind of menthality no matter where they live, Moscow, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk etc.. I wouldnt say that majority of Vladivostok people are like this. I have lots of people i know here who make good money and still just live ordinary lifes, having kids, pay their mortages, meet freinds and help each other. And dont be sad bc of fashionably dressed people there haha. If you would go to the Churkin district you'd see there just regularly dressed russian people or even gopniks like those you can meet in Spassk or wherever. You were hanging in downtown, most of those people you saw just work there and kinda have to wear a fashionable clothes. Be patient, after you graduate univesity with your skills you'll be able to get a job with good pay. If that chiropractor thinks people in Vlad are bad....well thats not good for him cuz he came to Vladivostok also looking for a better money. Check out South park season 15 episode 08. When people wanna see only shit around them somehow they start to attract more and more shit to their lives) Be positive, there are lots of good and helpful people everywhere, even in Vladivostok and Moscow;)
Hey! I really liked you commentary. It made me think of the time when I was living in Moscow. I've always found that there's something oppressive about that city. And I absolutely agree with you in that it was definitely not because of the people. They are basically the same as elsewhere. Maybe just a bit more stressed. I would rather say that there are just some places where you don't feel comfortable. It's like some kind of incompatibility on a personal level. Maybe, that's also what the author of the video felt. I don't think anything's wrong with the city itself. In any case, it looked impressive in her video. Hope to see it with my own eyes one day!
I'm Japanese. I see several Russians living and working in Tokyo who almost seem like having migrated to Japan. Probably the problem of Vladivostok or Russia in Far East is that they lack the private industries rather than natural resource development. If they don't have enough attractive jobs, young people will want to leave there.
Japan will likely have to start accepting more immigrants soon.

Japan will accept all the Russian people and give them Japanese nationality in Kurile Islands and in South Sakhalin if Russia give Kurile Islands and South Sakhalin back to Japan. If they want, Japan will pay all the cost for them to move to mainland Russia.

I have a opinion that it was much better for Russian people if Soviet surrendered immediately when Germany invaded into Soviet, like France had surrendered immediately (and Paris had not been destroyed). If they did so, 20 million citizens wouldn't have died of war, and also 20 million wouldn't have killed under dictator Stalin regime between 1945 and 1953. If Russia didn't win the war, they probably would have become like Germany or an EU Country today, who knows.
Russian people think UK and USA helped Soviet/Russia in WW2. But it was Churchill and Rothschild who ordered to stop selling oil & natural resources for Germany before Operation Barbarossa, which became the main cause of German invasion into Soviet because Germany desperately needed oil and natural resources, and Germany decided to get oil and natural resources in Soviet territory. Churchill and Rothschild aimed to make Germany and Soviet kill each other, and to take benefit of UK.
I'd love to visit Vladivostok, all the old architecture there to see, so beautiful. I'm from Sydney, Australia, so I'm naturally fond of old buildings with old architecture. Russians tell me it's a better city to see than Moscow because Moscow is "too commie".... Vladivostok has that Russian Empire feel about it. Moscow is just Brutalism.

Yeah, sad to hear about the clothes, but it really does not matter and it's ephemeral. Like Really. It is easy to put someone down by commenting his/her outlook, clothes, car, house, but remember WHY people dare to do that. You can do it with anyone. If they are looking "poor" - accuse them of dressing cheap. If they are "rich" - accuse them of not being authentic.
And actually Your environment is very rich, You can get loads of things to wear even from the trash. You can have shapes, colors, You have computer and printer so You can decorate things in a way wchich Your grandparents could not even imagine.
Over time You will figure out "expressing yourself" is not really worth pursuing most of the time, people expeess too much while they act too little. Expression is the pretending, and actually it is cheap to pretend.
For example many women want to look beautifull, but they seldom really mean it, like one is always beautifull only in relation - one is beautifull FOR someone, it is an process, feeling one can induce in another person.
Once You realize that You figure out that those who want to experience beauty will pursue it, will actively seek for it and not reject the potential, while those who are not interested or unable to enjoy it will try to destroy it.
But then , sure thing we get emotional over weird things, broken glass, dirty street... often not appreciating much important things like freedom , full stomach , abilty to communicate with other people easily - just try to visit some country where people do not know either Russian or English and You will know how much one misses just by not being able to communicate...
