Those door modules are a known issue on that generation of VAG cars - I've replaced loads. The door wire looms do suffer from stress fractures between the A-pillar and door, but it's usually the driver's door because it is used the most. A new loom is expensive - I recently paid £181 from the main dealer for an A3. As you had a trim piece missing from the same wing that was out of line, I would guess that some sort of body work has been done - possibly just something as harmless as paintless dent removal. I'm not surprised the dealer didn't spot these things - in my experience these "100 point checks" are fictional/marketing nonsense. 😊
The wheel arch seals stop water and dirt ingress. Not surprised they didn't catch it (or maybe they did and couldn't be bothered) as Audi rarely notices if they're missing. Noticed you shutting the bonnet from the side and that could contribute to frunk alignment. Due to the design of the 3 closing mechanisms I'd recommend you always shut it from the centre (via the emblem) as otherwise the clasps on the side might not catch properly.
I do usually push down on the badge so not sure why I didn’t then. Actually it shuts with a bit of a slam and no need to push down most of the time. This one seems to shut much more reliably and evenly that my first old one which had to be repaired by Audi
@@volkswizard yeah the slam from a foot seems to work best for me too. It's funny when someone else tried to close it and they just give it a small push because they're scared it will break, always requires a redo. 😂
Its an Audi so its supposed to have a few warning lights on the dash each time you start it. Lucky you can add cruise control as some car manufacturers won't allow this as it needs authorization. Wheels look better and I wouldn't expect a non Audi dealership to notice the missing parts or odd faults.
Where you wire brushed your disc top hats, I went a step further and sprayed in VHT matt black on my TTS Black Edition. Got fed up with the corrosion on them, and it looks really smart now.... OE+
you can get brushes that fit in a drill chuck and are great for cleaning floor mats....soak in shampoo, wizz the drill over, then use a carpet extraction machine and they will come up like new.
Agree silver wheels look better Dealer should have done a more thorough inspection oil check any missing parts should not have been missed Overall a great looking car! Enjoy!
as the poll suggested David, it is far from a walkover for silver! The grey looks tougher for sure but I pondered it for weeks, test fitted silver, took pics, refitted grey and only when the silver had been on for a few days and I saw the grey while editing this video did I think silver was better. It's funny because on my old Suzuka grey R8 (very light grey) the titanium/grey would have been amazing!
It’s 10 years old and not a new car. So I’d expect the odd defect. The dealers can’t make every car as good as new. You of all people should know this. You must have been on the other end of unrealistic buyers.
Silver wheels are almost always a winner in my eyes. Not sure if it's jsut me, I'd much rather a smaller wheel, bigger tyre for the grip and comfort.... not to mention, cheaper tyre! If anything, you could just get a thicker sidewall and beef them up if you wanted to fill the arches more.
Glad you like them Brian. On Audis cruise is not just a stalk and coding but also the cowling as it has an extra stalk solely for cruise. Problem with that (apart from cost) is that secondhand stalks can be mint but the cowling can take a battering so probably best bought from Audi (roughly £50 vs £100 for stalk).
Silver wheels look better. I have a S3 with chrome trim and I fitted winter wheels that are gunmetal. I need to go silver too as you have to contrast with my car which is navarra blue. Your change is subtle but vastly improves the appearance. Great job.
Hi Andrew, how does the R8 compare to the Boxter / Cayman? I’m looking to purchase shortly and seem to constantly go back and forward over the two, would be good to get the opinion of someone who has both. Thanks
Hi Tom, that's a good question and worthy of a video but here goes; Boxster/Cayman is better than R8 because; Better packaging as they have decent boots and you can go touring, boot is useless in R8 They are better on fuel (30+ easy) There is a network of brilliant Porsche specialists but very few R8 specialists and Audi main dealers are useless with these as they see so few I'd say the image is a bit classier being a Porsche and they are quite discreet but still highly regarded and aspirational Driving experience is a bit sportier Better exhaust sound Less likely to modified and filmed for UA-cam :) R8 is better than Boxster/Cayman because; Cabin is more spacious It's more refined (feels more 911) It has a lot more road presence It's more of a GT than a sportscar It's a lot rarer It's got a V8 It's more exotic as it has an aluminium space frame, most Porsches are steel monocoque Bearing in mind 981 GTS can be same age/mileage/price as good 2014 R8, R8 seems like a lot more car for the cash and a lot more special (though 981 GTS is still a special car).
I've got 2 I've had for ages. They look similar but work differently; If you switch one off at the wall then turn on again it will continue to work as if never switched off, if you do that to the other, you have to select the mode for it to work again (which is annoying). I think one will try and fix a damaged battery (one that's been left to go fully flat) which is a good trick.
For you floor mats use a multi tool or orbital sander or a DA, with sanding attachment but without sand paper / with an old polishing pad and use the vibrations to shake the dirt and dust to the top of the mat and then vacuum off and repeat until your happy. Then use a Bissel spot cleaner or equivalent to draw the remainging dirt out of the carpet. You'll be surprised how mugh dirt cones out of a 'clean' carpet!
Got some problems with my Polo Gti at the moment Andrew , I get a warning message on the dash, front assist or travel assist not working, the bloody ping is annoying and it happens at least every 15 seconds .... booked in for tuesday
Thanks Raj. If I’d seen the gap before buying I’d have got worried so kind of glad I didn’t. That’s why dealers should always sort things like that out.
I’m a silver wheels fan for most sports cars. I had black on a Turbo S which looked OK. My Ferrari F430, Merc S 63 Coupe, Audi Q5 all have them…and even our Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 which looks so much better in silver than the usual black that diminishes the stance of a 718
Could never understand why people liked black wheels. The car looks stunning. Funny as an Audi fan for many a year, the R8 never floated my boat, but recently I have been showing a lot more interest in them....
Thanks Wyn. Black wheels were never a factory option on Mk1 R8 but a lot have been refurbed in black, possibly by car dealers to make them appeal to a different kind of market. There were 3 Mk1 R8 Spyders in white with black wheels when I was looking, 1 was the only Mk1 R8 for sale at an Audi main dealer. Didn't look good at all. Titanium would have been much nicer on those The R8 is a very special car and one we will only fully appreciate when it's gone (which is very soon sadly).
Another "brilliant " video Andrew. I've just bought a mk3 seat leon fr estate the 181 bhp diesel version. Had a golf gtd 3 years ago but had to sell due to redundancy. But back on my feet and back into my vag cars. 👍
I did like the grey wheels but as soon as I saw the silver on the car your right it looks bigger wheels and looks awesome great 👍 nice and sunny there roof down and give it a blast 💥
Grey wheels only work on a grey car when there diamond cut! The rotors of 2014-2015 looked Amazing grey on grey! When I had nappa leather in my Audi S1, I swore by auto finesse leather cleaner and moisturiser. Keeps it matte finish and still fresh!
I had a TT RS in Daytona with diamond cut rotors and you were right! I also had a B7 RS4 in Daytona and but the wheels were silver I think. RS6 was Daytona with black/cut wheels which looked good. Maybe at refurb time I'll get them done in titanium and cut which is what I did on my old R8 (not a factory option).
I've got an intermittent door lock fault on my 7.5 GTI. when it fails the doors unlock, but the drivers door re-locks itself after about half a second (second click) When I lock the car there is a second click and the drivers door unlocks. I've had to use the key to lock the door. Fault code comes up as drivers door (master) door lock fault. Once I've used the key a couple of times it seems to free the mechanism. Frustrating as it works for a month or so then fails again (tried lubricating the lock but seems to make no difference) 🤷♂️

Silver wheels is a massive improvement 👍
100 percent better in silver , surprised you haven’t had it ice blasted underneath and wax protection

Hi Andrew, how does the R8 compare to the Boxter / Cayman? I’m looking to purchase shortly and seem to constantly go back and forward over the two, would be good to get the opinion of someone who has both. Thanks
Hi Tom, that's a good question and worthy of a video but here goes;
Boxster/Cayman is better than R8 because;
Better packaging as they have decent boots and you can go touring, boot is useless in R8
They are better on fuel (30+ easy)
There is a network of brilliant Porsche specialists but very few R8 specialists and Audi main dealers are useless with these as they see so few
I'd say the image is a bit classier being a Porsche and they are quite discreet but still highly regarded and aspirational
Driving experience is a bit sportier
Better exhaust sound
Less likely to modified and filmed for UA-cam :)
R8 is better than Boxster/Cayman because;
Cabin is more spacious
It's more refined (feels more 911)
It has a lot more road presence
It's more of a GT than a sportscar
It's a lot rarer
It's got a V8
It's more exotic as it has an aluminium space frame, most Porsches are steel monocoque
Bearing in mind 981 GTS can be same age/mileage/price as good 2014 R8, R8 seems like a lot more car for the cash and a lot more special (though 981 GTS is still a special car).
That’s a great breakdown, thank you for taking the time to give such a detailed answer, much appreciated.
