I don't know what is worse, living in Derry being surrounded by Derry people or getting out of the City and meeting Derry exiles in all sorts of places, with big nostalgic chips on their shoulders. If you like it so much, get back the fuck there then is what I say. And stay there. I'm from Derry myself, left it years ago, and can put up with the occasional visit back - it is after all beautifully situated. The Troubles really gave us a sustained going over. And the thought of King James in his vey royal personage himself parlaying at Bishop's Gate to a fusillade of shot from the Defenders does give a frisson every time one passes beneath it: Hervey's Triumphal arch now (1789 - irony!), not the original fortification, though.
