Great review, thank you. First Yes album I ever bought, so it's my favorite. Bills playing on Sunrise and the middle vocal section of South Side still make me smile. Topographic Oceans should be a treat also! I'm tempted but I'm also curious to see what the Beatles do this year. A Rubber Soul box?!
I can't wait Close To The Edge (Super Deluxe Edition) for 2025
I love howe Yes loves their fans so much they give them the opportunity to purchase the same records over and over. Give it six months and they'll let you get the Japanese quad mix vinyl version-with another bonus track, this one of Chris singing an alternate take of "Roundabout" while in the bathtub!
To be fair, no one is being forced to buy any of them!
Thanks to your video I’ve just preordered this edition. I was very satisfied from the Yes Album Edition and now Fragile my favorite Yes Album makes this Edition is a most buy for me. Thanks so much for this update and it’s only a few days for my copy to arrive. Cheers mate and congratulations for your awesome channel!!
Christmas in summer!
Thanks for buying it so we don't have to ;)
He doesn’t buy them he gets given them free as promos and then sells them on eBay. Doesn’t even own a record player.
Why would anyone buy that now that Analogue Productions (Atlantic 75 Series) is soon to release the Atlantic 75 45-RPM version? With Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering to cut lacquers from the original master tape. Pressing on 180-gram vinyl is by Quality Record Pressings, and the album is housed in a tip-on old style gatefold double pocket?
Does anyone really need an alternative version of 'Five Per Cent for Nothing'?!
Good question suggest going for the other 95%
Me
I do
Oh matron!
While Yes remains my favorite band, I find myself more interested in the artwork I've been seeing in the background. Will we get an art tour at some point?
Excellent idea
To be honest I can't stand it when these record companies throw single edits on the cd or album. Why would I want the Edit when I have the full version on the cd or album? After all, isn't that what I would want to listen to? I probably already heard the single edit (especially in the US) a million times when I used to listen to Radio so why would i want it as a rarity? Give me some good stuff on the rarities disc instead. That would be a novel idea but too much out of the box for these companies just trying to make more money on another edition of the same record that's already been released, remastered, repackaged previously.
YES❣️❣️❣️The greatest band on this or any other planet❗️❗️❗️🪐🪐🪐🛸🛸🛸⭐️⭐️⭐️👍😎
Love YES and FRAGILE and all their 70's albums, but ... "wtf", this is too much !! Record companies are going too far ! I have already all those albums in 10 or so different formats ... Even if this one is a very beautiful object, why another one once again ? Are we just fans the "paying pigs" ?
Steven Wilson seems to be the man who remixes these days he must be a billionaire and he's not that good.also all these deluxe releases are a CON CON CON
The lyrics are nonsensical gobbledygook so who needs them printed? No-one!
Sacrilege
Me
The Dean isn't Yes, it's a Terry Reid demo (also produced by Eddie Offord) which was on the same tape.
What a fantastic review of this classic LP. Smooth, calm, measured response. No bombastic, over the top grind that often appears here on youtube. I can tell you're a genuine fan.
This is one of my "go-to" listens, never gets old.
Subbed again after a purge of my subs.
Thank you mate and keep 'em coming!
This was a game changer for me...53 years ago!
Buy this beautiful carved mahogany chair..the same as the one you bought before, but this time, housed in a beautiful silk bag, you get all the wood chippings swept up from the floor. I have bitten before...the Tull boxes being great examples, but an expensive thing to cram onto the shelf with all the others that I may listen to once - and I don't always get through all the discs on these things - with 'interesting' being the best description of most of it, isn't worth my pennies. Lots and lots of pennies.
It's really all a waste of expensive dough is all this consumer fooling crap,I hope you got a big enough warehouse to store this stuff that possibly never gets listened too,Never give A Sucker a even Break is my policy and there's enough out there
These artists and especially the recording companies must be laughing 😂 all the way to the bank. A license to print 💰 money 💵 !.....
Love Yes but there is nothing really new here that makes me open my wallet. Nice video and review
Very wise, I am keeping my hard earned money 💵 too !.
The Dean - that has to be Terry Reid warbling! Alan White played briefly with Terry (including live at Glasto in '71) but still not clear how this turned up on a Yes box set!?
Guaranteed to sound worse than the original
Last anniversary con I fell for was who’s next. I know Pete’s gone deaf but it was 💩
I believe the "plum label" was only on the first pressing. Then subsequent on the green/red? I have a UK 1972 pressing. That has the green/red labels.
If it begins in Y and ends in S there's a good chance that' I'll be at least mildly interested. It looks super spiffy. I like the Yes Album stuff. Particularly the instrumental mixes. Very interesting listen without Jon's uber angelic vocals. Anyways, it looks like a lot of Yes yumminess.
just include a complete live set from the fragile tour. no one needs all the edits or alternate mixes
People will always want what they believe is rare and collectable. The artists and record companies know this very well !..
Thanks for the video and details. The unreleased live stuff is what I’d be interested in. Too bad there’s not more of it. The last reissue had a concert from the Yale Bowl and one from Europe. That made it worth getting. Alternative versions are usually only good for a listen one time. Rock on!
My go to Yes album.
My vinyl LP purchased in the U.S.A back in the 1970s shows Atlantic on the cover, The Atlantic Group on the record sleeve..
So does the one I have
same here i bought one at an antique store and edge both had beat up jackets but vinlys g.c. were 10 got 5 or 6 others owner ok discount 7 each atlantic i think are bith green labels
Enjoyed the breakdown, and ironically, I was waiting to the whole video to hear what you thought of the Blu-Ray mix. Ha ha.
I have listened to some of the remixes and I prefer the originals. From memory this was released on Atlantic.
I have the Steven Wilson remixes on the vinyl box set released a few years ago, and they tend to be a bit soft compared to the original vinyl. Okay if you like that sort of thing. The originals were IMO a bit punchier.
I’ll probably buy this new release if the price drops below the current MSRP (silly if you already have the vinyl.)
Excellent! My copy should be arriving by the end of next week. Thanks again for your insightful coverage, as usual. Keep up the great work!
just love this channel ,superb keep up the good work
Yes must be an acquired taste, I'm not a fan of their music. I do really like the song Roundabout though.
Jon Anderson has a new CD coming out soon and I preordered a signed copy just today. I’d rather have that. As others have said, my original copy of the album suits me just fine.
This album was released long before i got into Yes which was back in the mid 70's when they released Going For The One. Ive never owned Fragile on vinyl, i only have it on CD, so when this set came out i just had to heve it.
Tried to enjoy Yes but it‘s like music to do your trig homework by
Not unlike Rush, and I‘m Canadian
@classicalbum ‘The Dean’ is the Terry Reid version, not the YES song - what a monumental screw up.
Who does it state remastered disc one? Bernie Grundman or someone else from Bernie Gundman Mastering? The Analouge Production Hybrid SACD coming out soon is supposed to be Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Anyone can chirp in.
Looks Great! Where can I get a YES T-shirt?
Barry will be wearing a Yes t-shirt for the next Quo review fyi !
I have the mofl One step and analog productions is releasing an Atlantic 75 version. And I can always stream the steven wilson so i'm plenty good
The original UK release of Fragile did have the "plum" label. However, the US release had the label design Atlantic label design used for this set.
Not my cup of tea ...on a vaguely connected tack how about best ten Mellotron albums.
Iv noticed with these 180 gram vinyl records they all have minor warps, none are flat, like they use to be.
i dont buy many new records have a dozen or maybe many 180 collector at local store hanging out couches chairs looking at re ords said he had a few that had flaws warped or vinly dust
There was a reason we all rejoiced at the arrival of the cd
Jeez! This and that anniversary edition. And then deluxe.. and then super deluxe. And then super-duper-deluxe...
(Not meant as a criticism of the video!)
Surely, there is another Dark Side uber-deluxe remastermix this year. That's becoming a yearly thing now. I'm glad they exist, but I'm not buying these sets. Cost too damn much and it's on my streamer, anyway.
If I which I ain't by the way was fool enough at 77 to go in for all this crap I'd want certifying,You can't teach a old dog new tricks can you
To be avoided as are all these sets
Beautiful to look at and hold for sure but experience tells me you play them once and then consign them to the shelf where they gather expensive dusti
Crikey !
I’m happy with my single disc. That’s all I need.
So two live tracks on a Fragile box set that were originally from the Yes Album. Ok. Don't tell me...let me guess..these weren't both previously available on Yessongs triple by any chance? Basically are you a wealthy mug? Yes
🤔 These is very big money 💵 to me made on releasing previously available materials, with just a few additional items added. In other words - A license to print 💰 money 💵 !
@@alancrisp1582 YES! 🙂
I just don’t like it when they put vinyl and cd together in these deluxe boxsets. Separates are better for the consumer. Choice is everything. ❤
all i care about is the yours is no disgrace live version
I have the box set on preorder. Similar layout to the Yes album box last year. I hope the Yes album boxes continue. Make 90125 next!
In my opinion when old albums are remastered, the original sounds much better than the remastered version a high percentage of the time.
I've never heard a Remaster that comes anywhere near the Original,it's a bit like thinking Giles Martin can mix Beatles Music ???
In America we got the Atlantic label exactly as you are showing it.
Serious cash grab.
There should’ve been a full live show instead of just 2 songs
No Roger Dean Poster?
Right? Loved his art. Would get his calendars every year 😊
yes local.indie record store stil has a few of the dean cover posters or sale
Oi yes no
Yes in UK, Atlantic Plum
In US- standard Atlantic label
It was on Atlantic plum label.
Food for thought, hmm not sure .great reaction mate ,as usual 👍👍👍👍👍
Can’t decide whether to get this or not. This was the 1st Yes album I bought so it has great deal of nostalgia for me.
I still have my original U.S. version I bought back in '72 and it's in great shape. That's all I need as I was never one for live versions, alternate takes, etc. But for the die hard collector have fun and enjoy.
This is a must for any Yes fan IMO.
Saw them Summer 77 at MSG in NYC. Going For the One tour. It was as hot as it is now 96! 🌞
I was there too...my first Yes gig. Set began with parallels, and I think Chris was on the triple-neck.
@@danielhresko4900 What an awesome song is parallels ?
I have no personal experience, but it looks like sometime late 1971 they switched to the Atlantic "green and orange" label. (This was the label "Close to the Edge' was released under.) Fragile being released in November of 1971... dunno but it's close!
A quick look a Discogs confirms that, yes the original UK 1971 pressing was on the plum label.
Yes, I very much enjoy when you do unboxing videos and give your opinions on said release...in fact after having watched many of your vids over the last few years, I finally succumbed to the temptation and now I am a subscriber to your wondeeful channel-Youre welcome !! Keep up the marvelous work !!
Glad you like them!
Just noticed Amazon has this for £84.87 where elsewhere it is just under £100. Slightly more palatable, I guess. Then I noticed that is the price in the link under the vid. Should've checked first. So please ignore my worthless post. Thank
I never cared as much about Fragile, as I did The Yes Album, and Close to the Edge, each one far better than the middle album. I was never a fan of Rick Wakeman, in Yes, the Strawbs, or on his own. I saw Yes with Tony Kaye, and with Wakeman, and I wasn't impressed by his contribution. I can't say Tony Kaye was better, either, but I have thought of what might have been, had the band chosen Rick instead of Tony, a few years earlier. I don't think they'd have hit the market the way they did, in 1971. Something about the understated qualities of the songs on The Yes Album leads me to think they'd have been overblown, as many Wakeman tunes were.
Crikey, only £85. Cost of living crisis, what cost of living crisis?!
So, it has finally made it completely through the "Roundabout"?😜🎶🎸🎶🎹🎶Play on😁
I really wish they would release the Blu Ray surround mixes on their own. They genuinely bring something new to the table, but I'm not willing to pay for all the other stuff I don't really want. Steven Wilson is an Atmos Wizard, but Atmos on streaming is terrible.
On a more positive note, just waiting for my vinyl copies of The Yes Album and Close to The Edge signed by the great Bill Bruford. Very fairly priced at £40 each from Burning Shed.
To me, four CDs and one LP is a waste. The point of the vinyl release is the vinyl release. If I want them on CD, I'll wait for them to turn up on UA-cam. Had the extras been done prperly on vinyl, I'd grab it. That said, I'll be anxiously awaiting this treatment for CTTE and the various Genesis releases ......
So, IS there a real difference between the 5.1 here than the one Steven Wilson did a few years ago?
A live version of South Side of the Sky would have been great, but am not sure whether they played it much back in the day....
I think they went with the original US label release. Of course the original UK is on the plum label. Probably not the best choice but it’s apparently what they decided to do.
Isn't there a new Dark Side of the Moon remastermix ultra-deluxe package coming soon? Yet another 10 discs worth of material. It's been 6 months since we had one.
Seriously, I would like to hear the Steve Wilson remixes to hear how he would do it now. But, ultimately, that is not the album I know and love, is it? Like George Lucas with Star Wars, it's the original cut everyone fell in love with, not the special editions. Fragile will be streaming on my UA-cam Music when it releases. I'll hear it then.
I love your videos, by the way. Seen several now and enjoy them all. Greetings from the former colony of North Georgia USA 🇺🇸.
Spot on sir , yes you're right fragile was released on the plum label, i have all early YES reissues and all are on orange and green for some strange reason. Really good show, thanks.
Besides Fragile, I like your painting at yr right hand !! Oil ?
Actually really really excited for this one. I used to own this album on every format but surround but when I started my business I sold all. This will be a great way to have this album conveniently on every (reasonable) format and it appears they did justice to the art work !! Of course the main draw for me is the surround / atmos mixes, and seeing as the oop 2014 now fetches close to $100 second hand I consider this better value for money. 👍
Will this be available in a vinyl only edition?
Not sure
I'm saving my pennies for the Close to the Edge box. Hopefully it will have some live concerts with it not just endless studio outakes.
Just more stuff to collect dust. In this day and age, I listen to music on my phone, streaming in the car, and off of a smart speaker. Just a cash grab
Thanks for letting us see the goods early doors. It looks wonderful you can't beat a bit of nostalgia ( PROBABLY THE RECORD COMPANIES LAST WAY OF MILKING THE LAST DROP OF OUR MONEY ) still very enjoyable, have a wonderful weekend. PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
Great material, especially with Bruford. Would have loved an A+ quality of the America video. America is the best drum, guitar and bass jam ever. Thanks for the upload!
Looking forward to this even though I recently purchased the clear vinyl version last year. I enjoyed the Yes album deluxe and will no doubt enjoy this. I do hope we can get to ‘Going for the one’ in years to come, if ever an album needed a deluxe edition it’s that👍
No Anderson no Yes so they say. Who needs a collection of Yes instrumentals
Oh how I like stuff that I don't really need
The label design is true to the original U.S.A. vinyl release.
I always love your videos. I can’t wait for CTTE, Tales and Relayer.
You got a turntable yet?
Have it too now !!! Love it 👍
Had this on 8 track, vinyl, cassette and cd…haha
Getting this 28th June.
christmas list starts hee....
I enjoy that painting to your right.
Got mine today and it's wonderful. Haven't listened to the Atmos mix yet and that was the main reason for buying. The Dean...hmm, doesn't sound in the least bit like Yes. It's really unusual and out of character. Shem the sleeve notes don't make any reference to what it was and where it came from.
And apparently my instincts were correct. The Dean is not Yes it is called 'Sabyla' by Terry Reid, recorded at a similar time by Eddie Offord with Alan White on drums. It's being withdrawn on streaming services.
Nah
I have mine on order love Yes
Barry -- in the U.S. it was released on the standard Atlantic label as it is now. The "Atlantic Plum" label I've usually seen on older Atlantic releases, like THE GENIUS OF RAY CHARLES, that sorta thing. But, then, I'm old...
Hope you are well, and still listening to some great tunes
