Hello Jim. My bother Zunzi is 29 years old and has severe Autism. He is completely nonverbal and, I believe, your biggest fan. He watches ALL of your videos on a daily basis-everyday. This video he watches on repeat-by far his favorite.Thank you for taking him on these fantastic road trips. It really makes him happy. Thank you so much!
Hi Malisa, thank you for sharing that and I am so glad he enjoys the videos and that they give him some enjoyment. I don't make any money for these so a comment like yours makes it all worthwhile, thank you!
Jim, this video is ultimately awesome even though you shot it in 2009, the quality is fantastic! I've driven down the FDR coming from the Bronx, many times just to extend my drive to the west side of Manhattan, driving through Central park drive to reach the west side, my destination. It is most definitely a fun drive, if traffic permits.. Great job!!!!!!!
love this video, love the smooth ride, love the scenery. Interesting music selection. I never rode on the FDR and Harlem River Drives northbound around 9am. But now I know what it's like, I say thanx for the visual. I could see my old apartment building at the Colonials projects (Ralph J. Rangel Houses) right where you just pass the Macombs Dam Bridge at 155th street and 8th Avenue. Boy do I miss living there, especially with great views of the river, the Bronx and the HRD highway.
@ToNGanStuNNa650: You'll love the places that FreewayJim mentioned (NYC, Boston, Washington & Pittsburgh). Being from Redwood City and completely familiar with San Francisco, you'll be shocked at some of the similarities between SF and Pittsburgh.
Never been in New York city--been in Staten Island and I almost thought i was in San Francisco there, so many hills there. i was so scared to drive in New York City but now after seeing this vid, i will drive in NYC and really drive this FDR East Side drive--12 hours from Chicago though.
1:44 u can see the empire state building on the left : ) When i visted the city i just took the subway to get around. But taking the FDR and other surface routes really shows u the extent of the waterfront. Great vid man.
@@Freewayjim Minus the Bridges...here in Chicago, there is ONLY the Chicago Skyway Toll Bridge...$5.70 to cross it! I remember as a kid when it was 25 Cents. :)
@ToNGanStuNNa650 Thanks! I've never been out west but I imagine the east coast is very, very different from the west coast. NYC, Boston, Washington & Pittsburgh (believe it or not) are all worth seeing. I know a few folks from the SF bay area who were shocked at how neat Pittsburgh is.
Nice video freewayjim and you have a new fdr drive video in 2014. The FDR drive bellow 23rd street is used by MTA express buses going to either brooklyn or Staten Island
ahhh that was a nice run fwj. I have driven that route and inched along that route many times. Now what is an old rebel doing driving around in the city?
That was a fantastic video! Just what I was wanting to see when I commented on your other vid! (That'll teach me to comment without checking!). Have you ever thought about putting out a DVD? Obviously, you'd have to replace the music, maybe with a local band who need the publicity, but I for one could watch hours of your vids as they're really relaxing. And as a professional driver myself, I love seeing other cities from the road. I'd buy one!
There is an exit, but it doesn't lead directly to the bridge. You have to get off and use the surface streets. Going southbound, as I recall, there is a Queensboro Bridge exit, but again, you have to get off, go up to I believe 2nd Ave, and then loop onto the bridge that way.
Thank you, yes it's quite easy in fact the next video (I-95 North in the Bronx) starts from there, you just take a right at the end of this video and in less than 1/4 mile there is a right turn to go I-95 North.
Your video here is spectacular. Getting off at Amsterdam street at the end, is there a way to get on I-95 NORTH from here?? I saw the signs for I-95 south / GW bridge
Wow! Thank you for the great ride. I didn't ever think that NYC is so green.
But one thing I cannot understand: american cars usual was wider then others, but you have very narrow roads. I can compare it with Russia and some other euopeans countries.
So all those bouroughs are like suburbs of NYC. I have to plan a drive there but now these gas prices have sky rocketted i have put it on the backburner for now.
@BNforever2009 If been in Staten Island You in New York City Remember New York City is divided into 5 boroughs Manhattan,Brooklyn,Queens,Bronx,Staten Island all of these made one huge city NYC.
The 2:03 mark... to the right acros the river would be the Daily News plant and the old Pepsi Cola plant(if still there), sporting the old-time *Pepsi-Cola* logo.
@Freewayjim From my experience driving in New York City is like driving in Wisconsin compared to some South American cities. At least the notion of civility and respect for life in its more complex forms are somewhat retained in NYC.
Nice video. I like when the FDR travelled under the high rises. You better not breakdown on the FDR because I didn't see many places to pull out of the way.
@lostdaflame101 Good question, I don't know, never studied the area close enough. You may want to examine it on Google Earth and come to your own conclusion, keep in mind with enough money you can build anything.
building a direct ramp would be an engineering nightmare too many building and the already existing on/off ramps would create traffic chaos. the exisiting exits from the FDR drive to the bridge have worked fine for the past 60 years. As a new yorker and a driver it doesn't make sense.
@2:06... UN out of US; US out of UN! @2:27... Hospital for Special Surgery. ca. 0:48... South Street Seaport. I wonder if they still have Pizza Del Ponte; great pizza! About 3:30... There used to be a wonderful "I (Love) New York/I Love Newport(Cigs)" sign. Taken down after the foolish lawsuits against tobacco.

Bless your soul. Thank you for letting me enjoy experiences i may never see but pursue. Very good video.
Thank you very much, this one (includes FDR Drive) is miles better. ua-cam.com/video/fxLmewaoSVg/v-deo.html
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen. What quality.
I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you.
Awesome video! Cruisin' on East River Drive is one of the best things I've ever done. Can't get enough of these kind of videos ;) Thanks for posting!
love this video, love the smooth ride, love the scenery. Interesting music selection. I never rode on the FDR and Harlem River Drives northbound around 9am. What an "awesome " video !!!
Thank you very much!
Amo questo video e lo riguardo spesso! Grazie!!!
@ToNGanStuNNa650: You'll love the places that FreewayJim mentioned (NYC, Boston, Washington & Pittsburgh). Being from Redwood City and completely familiar with San Francisco, you'll be shocked at some of the similarities between SF and Pittsburgh.
Awesome.
Thank you!
That was wonderful, awesome, and you picked a great song I have loved since my senior year in high school!

This is like really good quality for 2009 like the editing is as good as 2017
1:44 u can see the empire state building on the left : )
When i visted the city i just took the subway to get around. But taking the FDR and other surface routes really shows u the extent of the waterfront. Great vid man.
0:35 that transistion to time-lapse with the song going "OW!" is epic.
Can´t describe how happy iam to have this part on viedo, an can watch it whenever i want.
Thanks, thanks, thanks
Kinda reminds me of Lake Shore Drive In Chicago...just in New York City, it's 5x the size! Good Video, Jim! :)
Thanks and that's a pretty good comparison.
@@Freewayjim Minus the Bridges...here in Chicago, there is ONLY the Chicago Skyway Toll Bridge...$5.70 to cross it! I remember as a kid when it was 25 Cents. :)

This is a great drive.
Thank you, we lived on 14th Street .
This was a regular drive for us.
Nice video freewayjim and you have a new fdr drive video in 2014. The FDR drive bellow 23rd street is used by MTA express buses going to either brooklyn or Staten Island
Another thing... my dad used to work on a construction project in the hilly area behind Columbia U at Dyckman Street years ago.
I did this drive in 2011. I was a good drive. I hadn't been on the FDR Drive since the early 60's as a kid.
keep up the great videos enjoy watching them many close to where i live in Tri State area.
most beautiful city in the world
Wow! It's 2017 and this video was made in 2009! You've developed a lot within 7 or 8 years!
Thank you!
Now it's 12 years.
New York City is the biggest city in America. Truely amazing
wow.. that road is tight!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
ahhh that was a nice run fwj. I have driven that route and inched along that route many times. Now what is an old rebel doing driving around in the city?
I really want to go to New York. Nice Video!

I like the song in the video you get what you give
There is an exit, but it doesn't lead directly to the bridge. You have to get off and use the surface streets. Going southbound, as I recall, there is a Queensboro Bridge exit, but again, you have to get off, go up to I believe 2nd Ave, and then loop onto the bridge that way.
awesome composition !!! 100/5
Thank you!
Beautiful weather and moving traffic, I wish this could be said about British roads at the moment!
Love your videos. Can you do one going South the FDR Drive? Please say yes.
this is a really cool video!!! i love NYC!
I like it when Jim let the cutscenes react to the beat or vocals
Thank you! I was happy with the end result.
Thank you, yes it's quite easy in fact the next video (I-95 North in the Bronx) starts from there, you just take a right at the end of this video and in less than 1/4 mile there is a right turn to go I-95 North.
awesome!
Reminds me very much of Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.
this is one of my favourite stretches of highway in the world, I think rivalled only by Tokyo's C1 and Paris' Périphérique
@SelenaMagic814 You're welcome, thanks for watching!

Nice ending, every thing ends at the red lite.

Thanks :)
It's not the easiest place to drive that's for sure.
Good vidéo Thank you
@sukuansnguan hah it used to be. just a myth. I visited new york city and they started a MASSIVE cleaning project and everything is VERY clean.
Nice video. I like when the FDR travelled under the high rises. You better not breakdown on the FDR because I didn't see many places to pull out of the way.
wow cool vid.
At 4:00 is 8th Av and 155th St. Site of the Polo Grounds
@stuckybowl -Thank you! I have thought of that, If I had more time a tad more musical ability I could do more in Garage Band for these videos.
THEY SAID THAT NEW YORK IS DIRTY. ALL I SEE IS CLEAN STREETS. NEW YORK IS AWSOME.
Great. You can see those 4 apartment towers which are on top of I-95 pretty far in advance :)
@1867Phoenix Yes I remember that scene, around the southern part of Manhattan if I'm correct.
Saw the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building on 1:38
No? I rarely go to Maine, only went 7 Miles in on this trip .(video coming)
@jwippel Thank you! I appreciate that.
The ending was cute.
Was that Washington Heights at the very end?
That was fun!
@masterlee123: Thank you. Have you seen the night version on this road?
@BNforever2009 If you can drive in NYC you can drive anywhere, just expect chaos, don't be surprised by it and you'll be OK
Thanks, and no rebels here Denny, I'm from NH Originally :)
Verey nice .i liket i never been in NYC.
You must be a very good driver to drive this road. 55mph feels like 85mph. hill
@jaykayses Thank you!
Roads in NYC are not as wide as they are in the rest of the country. Here in Texas we have some pretty enormous roads :)
NY NY I LOVE NY!!!
@lostdaflame101 Good question, I don't know, never studied the area close enough. You may want to examine it on Google Earth and come to your own conclusion, keep in mind with enough money you can build anything.

@BNforever2009 -Early Saturday mornings are similar.
That’s it’s cool
The middle of the video, that part there, I remember from its rendering in Grand Theft Auto III. :)
2:05-2:09 I can see you had that same sentence in your New York City highways at night vid lol
i know when i get to NYC, i will make sure it will be early on a sunday morning.
most faimous area of NY City
JESUS graded song and video
@BNforever2009 Staten Island is part of NYC…
Massa
Yeah, it looked like he shot out like a rocket.
Does any body remember FDR drive from 007 Live and Let Die.
@adawilkes1 If I ever get a chance to film in NYC I'll consider that.
This use to be my song 😀😀😀👍👍👍👍😂😂😂
Can u do videos where ur not going so fast
I wanna another video like this with the same song but 2013¡¡¡¡¡
@2:06... UN out of US; US out of UN!
@2:27... Hospital for Special Surgery.
ca. 0:48... South Street Seaport. I wonder if they still have Pizza Del Ponte; great pizza!
About 3:30... There used to be a wonderful "I (Love) New York/I Love Newport(Cigs)" sign. Taken down after the foolish lawsuits against tobacco.
come to Chgo. The worst place to drive thru and people with bad attitudes. The traffic at anytime is bad! The streets are bad.
oh yeah, I forgot that. So you know about Maine drivers huh?
@masterlee123: I don't live anywhere near NYC, it could be years before I have the chance to do that, but I'll file that away.
Thank you!
