Vickers inflicted Valley’s second consecutive home defeat with a display of clinical finishing.
The influential Youseff Bamba burst down the Valley right before slipping a low cross to Anthony Adesite who beat Chris Lewington from close range.
Jeff Duah-Kessie struck the post for Athletic shortly after with a powerful drive from 20 yards, as Valley failed to create a chance of note in the first half.
Looking the more threatening on the attack despite Valley’s possession, VCD increased their advantage after Jack Sammotis brought down Chris Edwards in the area. Bamba’s rocket-like spot kick threatened to take the net off the stancheon as Lewinton dived in vain.
Ayman El-Mogharbel put the icing on the cake as he slotted the ball beyond Lewington from 12 yards five minutes from time.
