Glen-L plans are as good as it gets. Anyone with basic woodworking skills and the ability to stick with a project to completion can build one of their designs. My dad built a Zip in 1956, another Zip followed in 2008, and we're now completing a pair of Can-Yaks (canoe/kayak hybrid). Product support is excellent, and Gayle and the rest of the folks at Glen-L are just really great people. The high point of our Zip build was taking it to the office and having Mr. Glen Witt himself check it out.
i built one of their kayaks back in 1972 and it was excellent. the company has been around for ever and they are great. I got to visit them when i lived in Bellflower California and saw their center. Love this place.
I'm a proud owner of the Zip plans and I can say it's very well detailed and straight forward to follow and build by what we consider basic ordinary tools now a day. If these set of plans are not enough for you for any reason, there is a community of very kind people willing to share their experiences, solutions and tons of photos in Glen-L forum. If you are the kind of person who like to get referenced information, just take a look on the books & DVDs (I bought several of them. They are heavy for overseas shipping but never regret one). Standing behind all that, Gayle Brantuk. Glen's daughter who's an email away from you!! Now after all this, what holds me back from building my Own boat?! Building my own house :D
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to discover plans boat try Joolaim Rudder Replication (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my partner got great results with it.
Thanks awesome video. Gives me a lot of confidence. But what are the major differences between a Riviera, Tahoe and Monaco? I like Riva boats a lot BTW.
Very nice Gail. I have three sets of plans. Delta queen , the squirt, and the water lodge by ken H.my question is ,who is in the construction photos??? Glen or Ken??? I do know it is not alan.please do tell..
I'm sorry but I am VERY unsatisfied with my squirt plans. I know it's one of your smallest boats. But the patterns are very confusing. I know some patterns overlap others. But could they not have been printed with different color outlines? I mean come on. $90 for a (poorly) copied approximately 4x8 sheet of paper that would have MAYBE cost an extra buck to be printed with VERY thin colored lines? And they come folded up. You KNOW these will be folded and unfolded several times, likely before the building form is even built, eventually leading to tearing. I would have GLADLY paid an extra $10 to have them printed in color and even an extra $20 to have them rolled and shipped in a tube......like almost every other "plan" on the planet is shipped. The instructions are NOT "detailed" at all. They are very generic. Your website gives the impression that the plans are very specific to each boat and that even the most beginner of all builders will have no problem. That's not the case at all. I've built enough boats that I will have very little problems with this but I'm guessing that most people will be extremely dissatisfied with these plans. The profit margin on printing/packing/shipping a $90 set of "plans" (on one sheet of paper and throwing in a mass produced "pamphlet") that has been around for, I'm assuming, 50 years or more has got to be ASTRONOMICAL. I would expect them to have been updated, clarified and WAY more detailed after that amount of time for that price. To top it all off the print looks like it's a copy of a copy of a copy. A HUGE amount of the text is barely even legible. I don't know......I've heard nothing but good things on forum after forum and video after video about your company. But this is my first experience with you and at this point I would NOT recommend your plans to a beginner.
@@shadowsofheavenYou really epitomize the welcoming community of boat building. Thanks for your kind words. The boat is already built pal. It was a pain in the butt to flip the plans and try to see through the back of them. It would cost an extra dollar worth of paper for Glen to make full size plans. It’s a reasonable wish.

Wow! Many-many thanks, men of Glen-L!
As the saying, it is better to see once, than a hundreds something else.
I didn't get anywhere near all that for the Biscayne. Am I missing something here?

I wish they offered full plans, and not half plans. Flipping them over is a real pain.
If flipping a piece of paper is too much for you then building a wooden boat may not be something for you
