I love this show because it looks just like the one she filmed in London; MTV Presents Mariah Carey so it looks like she did pretty much the same sort of show in USA and in the UK.

She looks super relaxed here. You can tell she really likes this song by the way she plays with the pace and notes (in my opinion). The voice control with the whistle notes is EVERYTHING
It’s always fun to see her relaxed and enjoying herself on stage.
The ending is out of this world! She's doing staccato while whistling and going up at the same time...which is very difficult! 😱

@@HeyLamb Yes it is one of her best in my opinion. So free, So open. I love this era. This was the first era I saw her in concert. In portland in december 2003.

hi treacle!! first of all, you always look so cute in your videos hehe ;) (love me a good bear 🐻) secondly, i LOVE the charmbracelet era, and "the one" is like one of my top 3 songs in the album! single-wise, i honestly can't say whether it would have performed better than "boy", cuz "boy is aboslutely radio-friendly and very in-trend with the times back then. as a song, i feel like it's one of the most mariah-est songs in her discography. what do i mean by that? well, we have her beautiful whispery, airy vocals on the verses, coupled with hip-hop inspired flows. beautiful background vocals that are LAYERED for days, and her belty adlibs that pop in and out. finally, her amazing whistle riffs at the end, overall showcasing her vocal range and musicianship. the beat is so catchy, the production is pristine and groovy, and there's just something unique about the song that only mariah is able to create, write, and sing. i cannot imagine another artist being able to write such a song like this!

she had some great casual looks during the charm era. there was also a performance she did in one of those morning shows in the us: low ride jeans, light blue top, amazing vocals, you probably remember.
love the spoken intro and the ad libs at the end - and yes, she did seem to be enjoying herself with the lambily!

This performance was perfect.
Another great video. To each his own. The One along with Yours (not sure if that was a single) and You’re Mine Eternal are my least favorite of all her singles. Boy I Need You is classic RnB come on, the way she plays around that sample is SOOO good but the very best track on Charmbracelet imo is Lullaby. Vocal production and flow on Lullaby was so innovative and original.
The One would've definitely performed better than Boy.
The problem was Boy was essentially a remix to another song released the same year (that was very popular). If hers was the first iteration of that song, then it would have done really well and maybe TEOM wouldn’t have been known as the comeback era (and Its Like That may have been a number one).
I'm sad she didn't release this video performance for her Charmbracelet EP. It would've made perfect sense!! But, everything happens for a reason. I know this performance is on UA-cam, but the quality isn't as good as it would've been if she released this HD. Oh well, Lambs this song is SO SPECIAL!!!!
Yeah, it would have been fun to have that special and the UK one put on her UA-cam in HD but never mind. Still lots of goodies!

I think the song would maybe have had more play on the radio. But idk, maybe that wasn't what her team thought would work at the time.
Phrasing in this song is really hard, she transitions between falsetto to upper chest, and back. Words are a bit intricate too and she is constantly scaling in each phrase, sometimes is hard to understand her lyrics unless you're used to, I thinks that's a reason why it was not endorsed to become a single, and those whistles are career breaking singing. She nukes others careers with these song. It's also rare to see her belt as high as an A5vlike in this performance.
That’s very true. I experienced difficulty understanding the lyrics on the first listen of some of her songs but then we quickly become adjusted so maybe we forget that some of her songs are really not as accessible as they might need to be for commercial releases.
For the next Lamb vs Lamb you could do a “guess this performance”. Where you play a small snippet from a live performance and you guys have to guess the year/era and the specific performance. Obviously using more obscure performances makes it harder

I think both are not poppy songs but R n B and so not really appealing to the masses but only to lambs...
True. It felt like her first album in a long time to not have that really obvious first single choice, something pop / accessible.
